Oh course. Certainly don't mention the Democrat party that ran two uncompelling candidates against the most flawed opponent in history, spent 2.5 billion dollars in 15 weeks while having almost no presence nationally, and give the American people nothing to get excited about, exerting no effort while expecting IQs above 100 and plenty of involvement from every voting American in order to win, even though those Americans don't really understand that inflated prices aren't going down but that's not the administration's problem, they're not going to change anything.
WHAT COULD GO WRONG?
Obviously, that's not all that was needed. And I would have like to have our party do what's needed rather than expect things to happen without them trying.
Plus all that money. Wtf
Are you really this entrenched? Are you a foreign asset here to troll?
It's not wrong to point out the Democrat's faults in the campaign. It's how we learn to do better next time. It wasn't inevitable that Trump got elected. The Harris campaign fucked up. They alienated people.
Your need to blame voters borders on pathological.
Not being Trump is basically all that was needed.
Clearly. And if Harris had maybe gone just a teensy bit more to the right she would have gotten so many republican votes, right?
I cant beleive this drivel keeps popping up a full month later.
Have you never met anyone else from any circle that isn't echoing back at you? My Romanian boss brags about how good Trump will be and laments it's not good for him.
All over the world right wing parties gathered more power but somehow Americans are more special? And everyone else is super smart because they should be?
No, you don't just get to blame everyone else with saying they should have been more educated or more smart or just done what you say harder.
Those are not owed and do not work in a real world. But continue to live in fantasy and denial to make yourself happy as one of the good ones while being apathetic to suffering and giddy at the idea of punishment. If only you could personally hold the whip.
I was directly responding to your bad take.
Not trump is not all that is needed cause people wanted him as well for reasons that if ignored make the whole issue a lot easier to assign blame on. And specifically calling Americans stupid as if their right wing lean lately is unique is false when the whole world went more right.
All of your points are bad and completely unhelpful and false.
If you aren't understanding my response it's cause you don't want to see outside of the perspective you want. I'm talking to you. If you don't want to hear it that's you not me.
You already said you don't care about other people.
How so? I honestly thought it was funny.
Edit: I read it a few times and now I get it. That wasn’t my intention. I’m sorry to those I offended.

Nevermind elected officials in power... let's point out the cowardice of people in a Lemmy thread.in the meme board, at that, lmao, of all places
If that was Biden's motivation, then where is Fauci's pardon? Or Adam "Enemy from Within" Schiff's pardon? Or what about Liz Chenney who is supposed to face treason charges according to Trump, where is her pardon? What about Jack Smith, where is his pardon? Kash Patel has an appendix in his book which is a literal enemies and prosecution list, any pardons for anyone on that list?
If Biden was concerned about the Trump justice department going after his political enemies, and Biden wanted to protect those people, there's probably 80+ pardons he should be handing out.
But instead he only issued one. For his son. So Biden is either actually concerned about overreach of the Trump justice department but he's only willing to save his son, and leave everyone else hanging. Or, Biden isn't actually that concerned with the Trump justice department and is just abusing his pardon power to protect his shithead son from the consequences of his own actions. Either way, fuck Joe Biden.

Small bit of relative truth mixed with hypocrisy, dog-whistle, complaint, misunderstanding of word, misunderstanding of concept of voting population.
You hit all the highlights, personally i'd have gone with more dogwhistles, maybe something to do with immigrants ?
A solid 8/10 shitpost.
Vast means large btw, as in big.
Moving goalpoats, unrelated, more goalpost moving, claiming victory without any actual rebuttal, semi-truth, hope stated as fact, implication of stance not actually taken.
Hmm, a bit derivative but overall a solid entry, not as good as the last, still no immigrant references, i'll give this a 7/10 shitpost.
Hey, if you want to reinterpret what "vast majority" in the context of a political win means, you do you.
Easily provable lie, hope stated as fact, victory claimed on position never stated.

in fairness that last one did use the phrase "vast majority" to describe the number of counties that shifted to red, not the actual number of votes
I know i highlighted the difference between the two statements but i'm not expecting you to understand how statistics works or acknowledge the difference so don't strain yourself.
MA-JOR-ITY.
If this happened to Kamala you would be doing back flips at the gay rights parade. But it didn't. It didn't even come close. Get ready for actual common sense leadership, smaller government, and the majority of Americans being united in making America Great again.
Good things are right around the corner.
Moving goalposts again? you've already used that twice, le sigh
"vast majority" and "majority" aren't the same, i specifically called out the vast part...but you do you.
yes, finally an lgbt dig i was losing hope at this point but i get it now, you were keeping it in reserve, i can't wait to see what you do with the immigrants, perhaps even we can hope for some drag queen action?..wait no, don't tell me, i want it to be a surprise.
a bit weak after that though
provable unlikelihood presented as fact x2 , then lie that is easily provable and contradicts your own stance ( and still fundamentally misunderstands the difference between regular and voting population )
You did get the slogan in though so some extra points for that, weird capitalisation, but close enough.
hmm, a tough call this one.....i'll give it a 6/10, a couple new bingo entries but repetition and self contradiction are fairly weak.
Oh i see where my confusion is coming from, you're the personification of a county.
That is entirely my bad for thinking you were talking about either voting population or actual population, neither of which has a vast majority of anything.
You were just talking about how you and your swing state county personification buddies won out by a narrow margin.
What were there, like 10 of you, 12? i suppose 7 or 8 out of ~12 could be considered a vast change.
You have defeated me sir (or whatever the pronoun for a county is) , with unassailable logic, facts and a true understanding of statistics and the word "vast".
I concede.
Just realised that if you are struggling with "vast" you might not understand what a personification of something is, if so , disregard all of the above it isn't going to make any sense.
Dammit forgot the rating.
Repeating of a factually incorrect statement, self-proclaimed victory over a position not claimed or proven.
1/10 - lacks originality, no personal attacks, no strawmen, no fallacies at all as far as i can tell, not even a single slur.

Hunter was the victim of a partisan witch hunt that wanted to get him on Trumped up charges (pun intended) because of his last name.
Indeed, it's just the Right Wing Media giving us more "It's only wrong when Democrats do it" bullshit.
The real story shouldn't even be "Biden protects son from Partisan Witchhunt" it should be "Trump returns to White House despite the 14th Amendment saying he can't."
it should be "Trump returns to White House despite the 14th Amendment saying he can't."
I agree, if only there had been someone in charge of a government agency with the mandate to go after people like that, using a system of laws and justice, administered in some kind of court... Ideally someone the offender didn't appoint themselves, with a time period of roughly, idk, 4 years to get it done?
And there are tens of thousands of people in that exact position but didn't get pardoned because they don't have that last name.
Like, he could have blanked pardoned that particular crime in general, but I presume that would have been too much paperwork and might have been too close to actually doing something good for his people.
Find me a case of another person being charged with purchasing a gun while being addicted to a drug. Or better yet tens of thousands. You might find someone arrested for attempting to buy a gun while on drugs, but none that reviewed their past logs and tried to find out they were possibly addicted at the time of a purchase of a gun.
It was an investigation that I've never seen anywhere before. Any normal situation and a judge would have dismissed it completely as the person was not on drugs at the time of the charge, nor harmed/threatened anyone with the gun
Note: several judges stated such laws were unconstitutional during the years of the investigation, so any Republican supporting it must admit that States have the right to restrict any and all gun purchases for any and all reasons as the constitution states no such laws pertaining to addiction over lap and gun purchases... Or the law cannot support that case
Sidebar: whatever he did with taxes if it was unlawful and others do get charged with it, sure he should be charged

Anyone paying even the slightest attention just saw a father who was there for his son in his time of need.

Synology with hybrid RAID alternative?
I currently have an HP micro server gen 8 with Xpenology with hybrid raid, which works fairly well, but I’m 2 major versions behind. I’m quite happy with it, but I-d like to have an easier upgrade process, and more options. My main use is NAS and a couple of apps. I’d like to have more flexibility, to easily have an arr suite, etc.
Considerdering the hassle of safely upgrading xpenology because of the hybrid raid (4+4+2+2 Gb HDDs) I-d like a setup which I can easily upgrade and modify.
What are my options here? What RAID options are there that easily and efficiently these these disks?
I don-t have the spare money right now to replace the 2Gb disks. Planned in the future

Vulkan Video Now Enabled By Default For Radeon VCN2/VCN3 Hardware On Linux
An exciting merge today for the Radeon 'RADV' Vulkan driver with next quarter's Mesa 25.0 is enabling Vulkan Video API support by default for AMD graphics having VCN 2.x and VCN 3.x hardware.www.phoronix.com

The video quality for encoding has always been bad with AMD.
I'm hoping that by using Vulkan we can bypass poor quality encoders in drivers and get standardised accelerated encoders.
From my understanding, it's the hardware that produces bad results. There's no encoding logic in the drivers itself. That's why the encoding is accelerated in the first place.
E.g. if the hardware doesn't support b-frames – which for long it didn't – a new driver won't do jack. This is just about how video data gets into and out of the card, any encoding logic is handled by the hardware.
If the driver is no longer using a dedicated piece of encoding hardware thats shit, but using the Vulkan logic then surely the quality would be essentially guaranteed by it being Vulkan conformant?
The hardware wouldn't support b-frames in this scenario, and wouldn't matter because your just using the standard matrixes to encode the stream and if it didn't work then surely games would also be broken.
Or am I incorrect. Is this just standardising the API in Vulkan and it gets forwarded to the same video encoding driver? Could we not have Mesa doing a better job? 😒
Or am I incorrect. Is this just standardising the API in Vulkan and it gets forwarded to the same video encoding driver? Could we not have Mesa doing a better job? 😒
This is how I would read it. But if you have Mesa do it, it's in software, and you might just be using a software coded directly then, it's much easier.
I wrote Mesa but meant ffmpeg. Wishful thinking that they are able to make a generic ffmpeg encoder in Vulkan to allow it to be accelerated in hardware but not relying on bad video driver codecs.
Oh well, back to Intel.
REVEALED: Israeli Settler Company Specializing in West Bank Outposts Now at Work in Northern Gaza
A job advertisement from Libi Construction and Infrastructure Ltd.—a settlement construction company registered in the illegal outpost of Shiloh near Ramallah—recently posted in a Facebook group named “reservists” to conduct demolitions in Gaza. But the use of private contractors enables civilian workers, not just Israeli reservists, to enter Gaza. “Looking for bulldozer operators for demolition work in Gaza,” the job description reads, “The job is also relevant for those who have not served in the army. Good pay.”
The job posting on Facebook was a screenshot of a WhatsApp story of a man named Harel Libi, officially registered as an administrator of the company. I approached Libi directly to inquire about the job, and he confirmed the company employs civilians in addition to members of the Israeli military. The only question Libi had was whether I had any experience, to which I said yes.
He told me that he was in Gaza, but would send us all the relevant papers and documentation when he returned to Israel. We agreed that the work would begin within a few days.
Based on my conversations with Libi, the payment terms for the work are set at a daily rate of 600 Israeli shekels (approximately $165/day), with the work schedule running from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., five days a week, in Beit Lahia. The work is set to begin as early as next week. Libi made it clear that individuals working on the project are not permitted to leave the area without a military escort. He also noted that the project duration is undefined, with no specific end date for the contract.
The day after I first got in touch, Libi sent me a document to complete in order to proceed. The document does not mention “Gaza” but asked me to acknowledge that the work will be done outside the Israeli border.
The key terms for participating as a civilian in operations beyond Israel’s borders included:
- Article 2: The individual acknowledges that he has received safety and security instructions associated with performing duties outside the borders.
- Article 3: The individual was offered the option to fulfill their obligations as part of the military reserves but chose to perform the assigned work as a civilian.
- Article 6: In the event of death during these operations, the individual will be recognized as a “victim of hostile acts” rather than as a “fallen soldier.”

Pro-Palestinian journalist found dead on rooftop in Marseille
French journalist and renowned Middle East expert Marine Vlahovic was found dead at her home in Marseille on Monday, November 27.
According to reports by La Provence, her body was discovered on the roof terrace of her residence by friends who had grown concerned after she failed to respond to calls or messages. She was 39 years old.
According to ARTE Radio, Marine Vlahovic had dedicated part of her short life to the Palestinian cause.
In Gaza Calling, she compiled video and voice messages from her colleagues and friends in Gaza, trapped under the bombs.

An oligarchy is not a democracy... Not even a "liberal western democracy", aka "Constitutional Democratic Republic"...
Now, if you wanna get all pedantic and all, we certainly can.

I will pedant your debatefetishist asshole in half, fuck face:
Let's get up a definition of oligarchy, shall we? You're gonna run to Wikipedia or dictionary.com so I'll just go for Wikipedia:
Oligarchy (from Ancient Greek ὀλιγαρχία (oligarkhía) 'rule by few'; from ὀλίγος (olígos) 'few' and ἄρχω (árkhō) 'to rule, command')[1][2][3] is a form of power structure in which power rests with a small number of people. These people may or may not be distinguished by one or several characteristics, such as nobility, fame, wealth, education, or corporate, religious, political, or military control.
Now, in the UK, there's a population of around 70 million people, with 650 elected members of government and 805 unelected members, making up a rounding error of the total population.
In America, over 300 million people are represented by 535 members of its senate, plus a handful of unelected judges and executive legislators. Again, they make up a rounding error of the population.
France - 66 million, 925. Germany - 85 million, 733. Norway - 5 and a half million, 169. By all means, include the family members and hangers-on who aren't actively in power but still weild it, and you could quadruple or quintuple those numbers. Doesn't really matter, still comes out to a rounding error.
Maybe instead of jacking yourself off over liberalism you should take a moment to actually step back and look at the situation a little more objectively. Being able to vote for which people the power rests with does not increase the number of people welding it.
Literally voting for your reps is not what the government of Russia is, though...
THEY HAD ELECTIONS IN MARCH YOU DUMB FUCK
IT JUST HAPPENED
THEY LITERALLY JUST DID ELECTION BUT YOU'RE SO FUCKING BUSY HUFFING YOUR OWN FARTS YOU DIDN'T NOTICE
"People with money and power have all the say".
Thank god we don't have that in the capitalist west, can you imagine? Why, they could just carry out a genocide and send the police to bludgeon and teargas protestors, they could dissappear activists into blacksites and torture them for days, they could install fascist governments everywhere and poison the world, and just wave nukes at anyone who tried to stop them.
What an unimaginable nightmare that would be, I'm so glad I don't live under the kind of irredeemable oligarcical government that would be defined by doing those things.
Also your understanding of power is a tautology. The people with power have the power? Interesting, much to consider

For all the failures of the US, or other liberal democracies... Yes, they can vote fascism right into power, and we have, in the US, and in Germany in the 1930's too.
However, let's not pretend this is exclusive to liberal democracies... Lest we forget how quickly the oligarchs captured the socialist movement in Russia in the 1910's. Not even two years post-revolution, the Soviets were also murdering the working class for high crimes such as "Doing a labor strike" or "Daring to use a system other than Leninism"...
For all the failures of the US
Failures? What on earth are you talking about, failures? All of these ventures have been massively successful, they generated untold billions in profits for our oligarchs. You only view them as failures because you still believe for some reason that they were ever supposed to help you at all. The US hasn't failed it's people, we're just not it's people. It's you who's failed to understand this situation.
As usual, the latent American exceptionalist propaganda that's programmed into all of us from birth keeps you from viewing America as you would view any other nation-state, or one of it's rivals. We're told we have the biggest, bestest American moral aspirations and that justifies our actions, but we're also trained to carve out constant exceptions and excuses for why America has never, ever come close to meeting them. We learn to endlessly justify the atrocities of our own society while collapsing the actions of every other society down to some innate cartoonish quality, usually winkingly implied to be racial. Your worldview can only make sense for more than five seconds if you exclusively grant America some complexity and capacity for "redemption" that you deny to everyone else who America wantonly destroys, as if they aren't real enough to warrant anything but smug dismissal.
It's a cartoon view of the world that has led you to cartoon conclusions, its no wonder you're giving me the Flawed City on a Hill cliche. It's West Wing shit, not reality. In reality, America has never not been fascist. The fascism just wasn't evenly distributed, same as everything else.
But as usual, when faced with the most abbreviated possible list of their own crimes, any one of which would make another country irredeemably autocratic in their eyes, the liberal response is to retreat into "it's complicated." The final mask of moral cowardice in the face of incontrovertible evil. Colonialism was "complicated". Chattel slavery was "complicated". Blair Mountain was "complicated". Fucking MKULTRA, Tuskegee, Paperclip, leveling Asia with bombs, Iraq and Afghanistan were all "complicated" according to the legions of carefully cultivated, amoral yes-men who's only role at every historical juncture has been to solemnly shake their heads at the carnage while giving it the thumbs up to continue. Our current pet genocide in Palestine was "complicated" right up until that facade became too hard to maintain, and they just stopped talking about it. Now the US seems intent on starting WW3, and you can bet any amount of money that it will initially be sold as "complicated", right up until they throw a switch from "it's complicated" to "exterminate the brutes", and by that point all the liberals will be fully on board. Just look how quickly, how gleefully so many of them took to calling russian people "orcs". I want to give you a genuine warning, just from one person to another: you are being sleepwalked into fascism, and its actually not that complicated at all; it's the worldview that is taught to us which is overly simple.

Most of the hexbear people I run into here are not even communists and barely know the first thing about communism (there are a few exceptions).
Most are just wumaos (or 50 cent army) who dogmatically post the "CPC" party line, or whatever RT is posting, as well as posting right wingers and neoliberals like the Daily Caller or Jeffery Sachs because they agree with the propaganda they're consuming/spreading. They have George Bush level logic: "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" assuming that if the US is bad then, transitively, Russia and China are good. The idea that all three are terrible, in different ways, seems to be too much for them.
Most of the hexbear people I run into here are not even communists and barely know the first thing about communism

It's not as if Israel or its leaders have to fear suffering any kind of consequences from France on this, whose posture has been nothing more than mild talkie-talkie and who even refuse to abide by an Arrest Warrant from the ICC on Netanyahu (a very obvious wink-and-nod from Macron to the New Nazis in Israel).
With mainly Collaborator politicians in the various governments in Europe (notable exceptions being those in Spain and the Republic Of Ireland), it's open season for Mossad to murder Europeans in Europe at will.
That's an absolutelly natural consequence from in practice condoning and even protecting Nazis going full-on Genocidal and they lose all fear of consequences.

I use "New" or even "Neue" to distinguish the Nazis that claim to represent Jews and are genocidal towards Arabs, from the Nazis who claimed to represent Arians and were genocidal towards Jews (and Roma, though "curiously" here in the West almost nobody mentions those).
Because the etnicity targetted by one group of Nazis is the "dominant" etnicity of the other, if I don't do this some people confuse my anti-Zionist point with being pro-Zionist, especially given that the Zionists themselves will use Nazi as a form of slander against people who criticize them.

What's weird is that I can't find even one article about her death in the more mainstream French newspapers such as Le Monde or Le Figaro or Libération. There's something in Ouest France. Did anyone find more?
They're currently not treating her death as suspicious. I know it doesn't mean that it isn't but I think it's worth mentioning.

Found dead while making a documentary about the killings in gaza. Of all the rotten luck, eh.
I wonder if there will be an actual transparent independent autopsy or will it be some sort of sham.

I never really understood flatpak hate.
The storage use is negligible nowadays.
Permission requests feel way more user friendly and modern.
Finally linux has a universal package and people still hate it. It's probably one of the best things to happen to linux in years
Great news! Security and build-release people also hate snap junk.
Same reasons.
Ask us about npm
next.
flatpak haters
We like terms like "security professionals" or "build-release engineers" to describe why package validation and provenance is important, as is SSoT for avoiding dependency hell by proxy.
But when you don't understand the real terms, use whatever ya like. Yes, honey, that's the goer-upper, and now we press the button for the floor we want.
Biden pardons his son Hunter despite previous pledges not to
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden pardoned his son, Hunter, on Sunday night, sparing the younger Biden a possible prison sentence for federal felony gun and tax convictions and reversing his past promises not to use the extraordinary powers of the presidency for the benefit of his family.
The Democratic president had previously said he would not pardon his son or commute his sentence after convictions in the two cases in Delaware and California. The move comes weeks before Hunter Biden was set to receive his punishment after his trial conviction in the gun case and guilty plea on tax charges, and less than two months before President-elect Donald Trump is set to return to the White House.
Biden, who time and again pledged to Americans that he would restore norms and respect for the rule of law after Trump’s first term in office, ultimately used his position to help his son, breaking his public pledge to Americans that he would do no such thing.

Biden is proving he is willing to violate the norms to bail out their criminal family. But not use those powers for the average American.
It is certainly impressive Democrats are willing to waive this away as a minor thing. Wasn't their entire point that they are not the fascistic party but committed to law and order?
No, the Republicans are the self proclaimed Law & Order party.
I love how pearls get clutched when a Dem does it. Where were you the last 8 years?
Republicans have been pulling these blatant violations for ages. Trump pardoned Blackwater criminals on his way out.
Supposedly however Biden couldn't load the courts or achieve anything because "norms and values".
Democrats achieved nothing and at the end took a steaming dump on those values they used as the excuse for doing nothing
“All over this thread…”? Two comments and I really got under your skin. You deliberately avoid understanding me or my position, are devoid of nuance, and just make shit up to suit your narrative.
Fuck off back to your troll farm.
I don't think you understand the critique. The Supreme Court literally gave the office of the president immunity for crimes committed in execution of the duty of the office. Biden promised to not use that new power because he was deeply principled. That means that even though he and the entire DNC are operating on rhetoric that says DJT is literally an enemy of democracy and freedom and America, they won't do anything about it even though he's a convicted felon. No action whatsoever.
But he will break his own promises to pardon his son. So he's really not principled.
So if he's not that principled, and he has the power to stop the fascism, but he doesn't, and he has the power to stop putting infants in solitary, but he doesn't, and he has the power to stop putting asylum seekers in solitary, but he doesn't, and he has the power to stop sending military surplus to cops, but he doesn't, and so so so many other things....
If it's not his principles, then what is it? It must be desire. Either he desires expediency over saving the country and ending torture, or he desires what the right is bringing and he desires torture.
There is no actual way to have the power to stop these things, to say you're too principled to do anything about it, and then violate those principles for personal gain a few months later without the conclusion being that you never wanted the good things in the first place you just campaigned on lies and you're in support of the outcomes.
We've spent the last decade seeing repeatedly that the law doesn't mean shit for the red team; is anyone actually surprised that blue is saying 'fuck it' now, too?
...but since we're just openly abusing presidential power now, any chance he'll use it to get something actually useful done, or we stopping at individual favors?
Are they charged or convicted of a federal crime where a pardon is even relevant? It's not a power to grant citizenships or a genie wish.
Now, the whole 'president can down whatever they like as an official act' that the SCOTUS gave recently is another matter...
Ok, and? How does that have any bearing on what Biden did?
The author of the crime bill, responsible for the massive incarceration and enslavement of poor people in the US who spoke to congress about not giving a single shit about the circumstances of people who committed crimes, lock em up first ask questions later, just pardoned his son before sentencing because he's a poor widdle misunderstood boi who didn't know any better and his circumstances were so tough, what with having a senator dad with a lot of money.
Fucking blue MAGA I stg
My wife read this to me last night.
Wife: So apparently Biden pardoned his son
Me: Cool. Can’t blame him.
Wife: Of course people are say…
Me: Fuck ‘em.
Wife: You know because he promised…
Me: Fuck ‘em.
I think about this sometimes but the challenges for direct democracy are very hard to overcome. To vote right now, you go to a place and someone verifies your identity and then you vote on a machine that should theoretically have not just your vote but some form of backup to ensure your vote is counted.
Obviously this would get really obnoxious if you were voting constantly. So something like change.org maybe where people can propose things and others can vote on them. But now how do we handle identity verification, and ensuring only one vote per person? On something connected to the Internet, how do we verify security? This needs to be even more secure than a bank, as every hacker and government in the world will want to sway the results.
We could maybe distribute something like a USB key to cryptographically ensure everyone's identity, but then you will need to handle people losing theirs, or theft, and it wouldn't work great with cell phones. There's other identity solutions like scanning documents or facial ID but they have their own security issues and also are a nightmare for privacy.
I dunno. There's probably a solution out there that might work, but it would take a lot of work to make it trustworthy and that work would largely be overseen by people the system is meant to replace so they aren't exactly incentivized to get it right.
Legislation is still pretty complicated, having professional legislators makes sense just as a technical profession.
We could certainly stand to have more direct input though!
We don’t build bridges by committee, why would politics be better?
It’s a specific skill set to understand legalese and the processes
The Constitution is set up so that a single representative civilian citizen is elected by all the other citizens to oversee the nation. That person occupies the Executive Office.
Constitutionally speaking, the representative of the people decided that the Justice System was being used punitively. The Constitution grants the Executive Office the power of pardons explicitly in case the Justice System is being used punitively.
This isn't a bug, it's a feature.
True. Further, being from the rest of the world, I really couldn't care less and would likely do similar as Biden. The US people have dropped the ball, fucked the country and sent him packing.
May as well, you've got nothing to lose at that point.
Insert shocked Pikachu meme
I mean, i can see why. What are a few drugs, tax fraud and gun felony next to being cumplicit in the genocide of an entire people.
I bet Biden is proud of his son, for being a little better than him. Hopefully, Hunter's son will only get speeding tickets.
He still can, he's not out of office for another six weeks!
Bonus question: if Biden actually cared about a potential mass deportation under Trump, how many millions of immigrants could he pardon of crossing the border unlawfully? It's a federal crime, after all.
Biden, who time and again pledged to Americans that he would restore norms and respect for the rule of law after Trump’s first term in office, ultimately used his position to help his son, breaking his public pledge to Americans that he would do no such thing.
...after Americans voted that norms and respect for the rule of law don't mean shit. Fuck 'em, I would have done the same thing.

Use dark theme by default?
Wow, how ableist, a lot of people cannot see with dark themes well due to no fault of their own and they're expected to change it when that will be difficult because they cannot see anything suddenly? Sigh.
Why not just let people choose what they want at startup or keep people's choices based on what they had before or the system theme?
Software devs need to seriously start consulting people about their needs and not just making choices for them.
Wow, how ableist
How so? There has to be a default, and with many applications it's white rather than black. Personally, I like the dark themes that some applications now offer as it doesn't offend my ageing eyes so much.
Or you know, people are knowledgeable about such things, genuinely care and want to reduce harm.
[Sarcasm] But no, it's all down to some imagined 'identity' people are going to lose based on arguing for more care and a little bit of awareness.
What about the people that can't move their hands properly and it would be hard to select stuff on a new menu on startup? What about the people that can see better on dark themes? It's ableist for you to suggest a menu or light theme as the default!
The thing is that defaults will never accomodate everyone. The only possible thing you can do is provide options. Just because you have a "solution" that is better for you, does not mean that that is better for everyone. All you're doing is trying to make something perfect for you, which is selfish, and not an improvement.
You're assuming a lot. This isn't actually about me I prefer dark themes too a lot of the time. I just know people who have that particular need and so I'd forgo some initial discomfort if it made things easier for them.
Also, nice whataboutism there, but to answer your question, yes things in general should be as accessible as possible to as many people as possible. I get that it might not ever be perfect, but your inane points seek to hold us back instead of considering others and their accessibility needs which software and computer based technology is severely lacking, especially in spaces like open source.
Thank you for asking!
One that I know about (though I am sure there are others) is that many people have an astigmatism in their eyes and so it is very difficult to see anything in dark conditions as the light blurs across their vision when put on a black/dark background (this has other effects like making it awful to drive at night, for example).
The correct solution is to not have any theme as a default, either base it on what folks already have it set at a system level or ask on startup.
I am sorry to hear about your eyes. However, hopefully either of the solutions can be implimented instead of developers making a choice or impliment both a light theme and dark theme, with imo light being the default being the currently 'best' option, can be implimented with the option to change it in apps that don't follow system theming nor ask, so hopefully the most amount of people can see it well enough to change it.

This is bad though, what about all the people who have a really difficult time seeing with dark themes and thus would find it difficult to change it?
Really they should have asked people what they want on startup or some such, not make decisions for them.
Wow... so you're telling me people who have differences with their eyes due to no fault of their own is a 'skill issue'?
How ableist.
Yes, this is a good solution too.
If they're going to insist on a 'default' though, they shouldn't and should ask instead.
At least my experience on KDE the system theme option barely seems to work for GTK programs.
Even tho I specifically went out of my way to get a dark GTK theme in the system settings.

I'd assume you're more likely to get an interview, and it would probably be viewed higher than someone without.
Not essential, but advantageous.
Well, in tech, if you have experience, that tends to be the biggest deal by far and can often do all the lifting on its own. But hiring managers also appreciate certs and formal education, especially if you don't yet have much experience.
It would likely give you an advantage Vs some other person they're considering with your level of experience.
To take that a little further, I recruit on enthusiasm, experience then certs last.
There's too many “experts” out there that I might not be able to fire due to employment laws.
Certs are what I'd train my team for, to show to our clients.
I recently passed my Sys Admin cert from Linux Foundation and 50% of things by me were done on the fly:
- View to what website the cerficate has been issued
- Git commiting and pushing
- Smart finding and deleting / moving
- NFS and SSHFS mounting
- Firewall redirection probably using iptables
- Overall user management
- Docker container management
- Sysctl kernel parameters persistence
- Systemctl server managing
- AppArmor which I failed
- LVM disk extending
- From source compilation using make
- NTP time synchronisation
that's all I remember. Overall I find that typicall Linux Desktop differs from these certs and the job.
What it is undeniably good for, though, is letting you know that certain topics exist at all, so you can go deeper by yourself, stuff which you might not care about or come across otherwise.
Safe to say your Linux desktop experience will only translate as much as you put effort into playing around with your system, which, in a perfect world would be the least you'll ever need, it's definitely undesirable to make the desktop a CLI heavy experience, and in fact, I'd say that today's Linux desktop manages to save you from the details pretty well, so you really have to go out of your way to learn sysadmin concepts and tool usage, stuff that, if you don't need a certification, you can do just as well on your own with free articles and courses, whichever you can find

The fact that this works from the sky is definitely new, but I think all radar is light speed by definition.
