It hardly changes things, but I feel like Mario & Luigi: Dream Team deserves to be on that list, too. The concept and execution of Dreamy Luigi was awesome.

Italy grants Argentina’s Milei citizenship sparking outrage

in reply to Garibaldee

I wouldn't feel good about my president taking citizenship of a foreign country while in office. They could gain the citizenship once their term of public service is completed, but not during it. The president is supposed to be focused on their country - this could be perceived as the president is uncommitted to their country.
in reply to robocall

this could be perceived as the president is uncommitted to their country.

Argentinians ought to know by now that Milei’s only commitment to his country is in selling it out to imperial core capitalists. He’s working on his exit strategy. My money was on him moving to Juan Gaidó’s neighborhood in Miami.

in reply to davel

I guess that depend on number and gravity of charges he will face later, if not heavy enough to warrant hiding in the traditional US hotspot for washed up mass social murderers, he might choose a sunny villa somewhere near Napoli, which to be fair is way better place than Florida.

Step 1: sell countries assets to IMF
Step 2: flee the country
Step 3: ???
Step 4: profit

Abu Obeida: IOF bombed captives repeatedly to ensure they were killed

Abu Obeida, the military spokesperson for the al-Qassam Brigades, accused the Israeli military of deliberately and repeatedly targeting a location where Israeli captives were being held.

In a post on Telegram, he said, "The occupation army recently targeted a location where some enemy captives were held, bombing it multiple times to ensure that they were killed," stressing that the Resistance group has "intelligence confirming that the enemy deliberately targeted the location with the intent to kill the captives and their guards."

According to the spokesperson, the al-Qassam Brigades freedom fighters launched a search and rescue operation to attempt to retrieve survivors, However, only one captive was successfully retrieved, but his "fate remains unknown."

A few moments after Abu Obeida's post, the al-Qassam Brigades released a video captioned "Netanyahu and Halevi are seeking to get rid of their captives in Gaza by all means."

The footage shows a captive, with blood on their body, struggling to move amid the rubble most probably caused by the bombing Abu Obeida mentioned in his post.

Syrian commander on Israeli frontline says invasion will go no further

in reply to geneva_convenience

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he was securing Israel’s borders. But Jolani noted that Iranian forces that backed Assad were no longer in the country, so there was no excuse for Israel to be there.

Bouta find out that Iranian forces and Assad were the only reason Israel didn't invade further.

Blinken, regional top diplomats meet in Jordan to discuss Syria’s post-Assad transition

Top diplomats from the United States, the Arab League, and Turkey met in the Jordanian port city of Aqaba on Saturday (December 14) to discuss how to support Syria’s transition following the collapse of Bashar al-Assad’s government.

The meeting, attended by 12 foreign ministers and senior officials, did not include any Syrian representatives.

Discussions centered on what priorities a new leadership in Syria should adopt, including inclusivity, minority rights, and the destruction of Assad-era chemical weapons stockpiles.

Remind me of similar possible piece of news from 1795:

"Von Tauentzien, regional top diplomats meet in Petersburg to discuss Poland post-Poniatowski transition."

That account basically boils down to "China number one, Ukraine is run by nazis, booo USA"

Ukraine is run by nazis, booo USA

Where's the lie

in reply to CyberMonkey404

In the first half.

Ukraine is run by nazis

Or are we playing the "everyone I dont like is a nazi" game? In that case, Russia and my HoA is run by Nazis!

don't like this

Weird way to say articles about nazis having brigades and having close ties to the government. Many countries have idiots, but not many countries have open fascists int their military and government. Sorry I took your valuable time away from sniffing glue there. This clearly was too complex a topic for you to have a discussion on.
in reply to ☆ Yσɠƚԋσʂ ☆

Lol, many countries do have open fascists in their military and government, Russia and the United States among them. Funny thing about folks who are willing to kill for their country, they are often ultra nationalists. A couple of the articles I sent you clearly demonstrate this in regards to Russia.

Regardless, you never even came close to supporting the claim "Ukraine is run by Nazis". Worse for your point still, one of your sources stated clearly that said claim is demonstrably not true.

And while fascists and Nazis should be called out and shutdown on every level in every country, including Ukraine, exaggerating the extent to which these ideologies have infiltrated a government to justify war is blatantly propaganda and evil.

I'll take your personal attacks on me as you admitting you overstated the strength of your "evidence". Next time someone makes a clear cut argument like "Ukraine is run by Nazis", don't provide evidence that literally says that's not the case and then pretend like it supports the claim. That's not "too complex to understand", that's just lying.

Russia and the United States among them

Please show Russian officials sitting in front of nazi symbols, or Russian military units using them. I'll wait. The fact that you're trying to make some sort of equivalence here shows that you're either completely ignorant or intentionally trolling. The difference is that nazi problem in Ukraine is systemic, and this is a fact that's well documented.

I’ll take your personal attacks on me as you admitting you overstated the strength of your “evidence”.

definitely something a nazi apologist clown would say

in reply to ☆ Yσɠƚԋσʂ ☆

in reply to doomcanoe

You quote me saying Russians have fascists in their government and military, something I sent you articles demonstrating that you didnt even bother to read, and then have the audacity to pretend like I owe you more research and need to prove a claim I never made? Get outta here with that nonsense.

You never showed any evidence for this claim.

You never managed to demonstrate that Ukraine is run by Nazis, nor that it is even a “systemic problem”.

I have, but you ignored that, and no serious person would deny it. Even Ukrainians don't deny this

Do you think lying, exaggerating, and attacking people will benefit your point in anyway?

Should ask yourself that very question. Nobody is moving any goal posts on you. Maybe read up a bit on how took power in Ukraine after the coup.

Or are you just so angry that you want the fight, and there is no point beyond that?

Projecting much?

Honestly man, I feel kind of bad for you. Good luck, I hope you can find some joy in your life.

in reply to doomcanoe

Yeah bro, the country whose primary source of national pride is still turning back the tide of Nazism at the enormous sacrifice of over 25 million people. They for sure got a whole Nazi batallion, statues for Nazis and national holidays for Nazis, Ukraine is just a normal liberal country that way.

The CIA (and similar organisations) prop up the international economic order of grossly unequal exchange with the global south that allows European social democracies to exist. The point is that liberals will point to European Social Democracies as a model to emulate, without realising that they can only exist by offshoring so much of their economy to the global south.

A fan without moving parts that leverages ionization to create air flow

in reply to ☆ Yσɠƚԋσʂ ☆

They used to have this thing called the Ionic Breeze from the 'as seen on TV' brand Sharper Image. Pretty sure they went bankrupt, something about shoddy products and creating excessive indoor ozone as I recall.
in reply to ShellMonkey

Yeah I looked into those a little while back to see if there was an air filter product that didn't constantly need fiber filter replacement. Turns out that ionizing air creates ionized air (ozone), which is bad to breathe.
in reply to ☆ Yσɠƚԋσʂ ☆

I don’t see the need particularly but my guess at the “big company” mentioned is Apple. They seem like the type to jump at the opportunity to use a new technology to make quieter and thinner laptops. They already make some laptops without any cooling fans despite how inadvisable that sounds.
in reply to WolfLink

I see no downsides to this tech compared to regular fans. These are quieter, smaller, and they're unlikely to break.
This entry was edited (3 months ago)
in reply to ☆ Yσɠƚԋσʂ ☆

The video also highlights the disadvantages compared to traditional fans:

  • slightly less energy efficient
  • weaker
  • concerns about ozone
  • concerns about attracting dust
in reply to WolfLink

Those are not disadvantages to apple, if anything, it makes the planned obsolescence an easy task. Gimme dat dust!
in reply to WolfLink

The video says ozone is addressed by a using a copper catalyst. It is slightly weaker and energy efficient, but as the video points out, it just means designing around it. The dust might be an issue, but given it's blowing air out, I'd expect that kind of solves the problem.

And unfortunately, some weapons only work on the power. Like insurance hoops and red tape to delay or deny necessary health care.

This Week in KDE Plasma: Better fractional scaling

This week's headliner change is something that I think will make a lot of people happy: better fractional scaling! Vlad and Xaver have been hard at work to snap everything to the screen's pixel grid, with the effect that using a fractional scale factor now results in a lot less blurriness as well as no more gaps between windows and their shadows. You'll see it in the screenshot below (which was taken at 175% scale) but the effects are subtly better everywhere. Really great stuff! And lots more too, of course.

What causes spurious random lines between rows of characters in Konsole or other terminal emulators? The lines go away if one simply moves the window, but as soon as one begins sending characters to the tty they randomly come back 2-5 lines on the screen in random locations. Debian 12, 2 screens, One at 100%, the other at 75% (I think - I don't seem to be able to open display settings right now)
