Trump's budget bill would kill state-level AI regulations

Buried 291 pages into the 1,116-page bill as passed out of committee, Section 43201(c) describes a 10-year moratorium on state-level enforcement of "any law or regulation regulating artificial intelligence models, artificial intelligence systems, or automated decision systems."

Exceptions to the rule are few, and only allow for state-level rules that "remove legal impediments" to operating AI systems and streamlining their adoption. State laws that impose any substantive restrictions or requirements on AI models will be considered unenforceable under the decade-long moratorium.

Trump’s AI deregulation bill blocks states from controlling AI to protect corporate allies, consolidate federal power, and enable unchecked use of AI for propaganda and surveillance. It’s framed as pro-innovation but really serves elite interests and suppresses state resistance.

That was ChatGPT. There is a clear agenda here that not many care to take seriously.

Trump committed treason multiple times........

2 big points

Jan 6th insurrection

Stealing top secret nuclear classified documents and selling it to the Saudi prince.

in reply to spaghettiwestern

If this shows evidence trump understands what treason is. Then let's put him behind bars. His defenders kept arguing he didn't know...... can't have it both ways.

in reply to jerryh100

I'm sure he'll be consoled by his billions and having a corrupted government that coddles him even further.
in reply to CharlesDarwin

The best part is no he won't. He desperately craves being liked and can't understand why he isn't.

Watch moment Trump ambushes Ramaphosa with video

US President Donald Trump confronted his South African counterpart, Cyril Ramaphosa, over widely discredited claims of a white genocide in South Africa, during an Oval Office meeting on Wednesday.

Mr Trump said that white farmers are "fleeing South Africa", playing footage to the room showing people chanting "kill the Boer, kill the farmer".

Responding, Mr Ramaphosa condemned the chants but pushed back against claims of white persecution.

The SA president seems amused if anything

Imagine if one day he invites bibi and suddenly a video of the of the IDF executing civilians with hand tied down starts playing

The Nairobi family values conference: When tradition is a colonial trap - Foreign forces continue to push conservative agendas on Africans under the veneer of ‘defending’ African tradition.

in reply to technocrit

Starts reading.

"Hmm, I wonder where the presumption that pre-colonial values were entirely different than colonial ones comes from."

Get to the part about all the speakers at the conference being white

"Oh, there it is."

Racists and regressives do come in every color, but looking like the khlam or a meeting or the "my great grandpappy helped conquer Africa for Europe" club is something else altogether.

There is a very brief and almost an noticeable sweet spot in the 18th century, when the British empire suddenly banned slavery (and the slave trade) and decided to try to enforce it for a little while throughout the Mediterranean and the entire Atlantic. It didn’t go well.

It’s an interesting little slice of history if you care to read about it.

And, wow, yes, I am defending the British empire a little bit, by the way am I NOT excusing their centuries of slave trade, including their heavy lifting during the founding of the European slave trade. I just find it also interesting that they were also one of the first to decide that slavery was no longer acceptable in the modern world. And they actually tried to stop it, Kinda.

I find this a little bit interesting

It's too bad Africans don't have agency and therefore can't reject these views from a minority of the West and make their own decisions.

This sort of thing never sounds like a good plan.

The multi-national security bodies of ten NATO countries and Australia confirmed that Russian spies employed a variety of hacking techniques to infiltrate networks. Notably, the campaign included accessing internet-connected cameras at Ukrainian borders, which were used to monitor aid shipments entering the country. The report estimates that approximately 10,000 cameras near "military installations and rail stations" were compromised to track the movement of materials into Ukraine. The report also highlighted the use of "legitimate municipal services, such as traffic cams," for espionage.

Hopefully it's like last time and they just stall themselves with infighting until midterms. Seems we're already there for the most part.

US Senate passes ‘no tax on tips’ bill in unanimous vote

Bipartisan bill to created tax deduction of up to $25,000 now goes to House but experts have criticized measure

The US Senate passed the No Tax on Tips Act on Tuesday after the Nevada senator Jacky Rosen brought the bill up for a unanimous consent request.

The bipartisan bill will create a tax deduction of up to $25,000 for cash tips reported to employers by workers for withholding purposes on payroll taxes, with a cap on the salary for eligible workers at $160,000 annually.

Economists and labor advocates have criticized the legislation, with concerns it will incentivize the expansion of tipped work, undermine pay increases and would affect only a small segment of about 5% of low-paid workers who receive tips.

in reply to MicroWave

This will certainly not be abused in any way shape or form...

Lawmaker Who Beat AOC for Top Democratic Role Becomes Third Democrat to Die in Office This Term

Virginia Rep. Gerry Connolly, who edged out New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) for a top Democratic post in December before stepping down, died from esophageal cancer on Wednesday, becoming the third Democrat to die in office this term.

The late congressman made headlines in December when, with support from former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, he defeated AOC to lead the House Oversight Committee, despite reportedly violating stock trading laws, according to Raw Story. AOC would have been the youngest Democrat to chair a House committee at 35 years old.

Foreign diplomats come under Israeli fire on official West Bank visit

The Israeli military fired warning shots at a large delegation of European and Arab diplomats on an official visit to the Jenin refugee camp in the occupied West Bank on Wednesday, drawing swift condemnation.

Delegations from more than 20 countries, including the United Kingdom, France, Canada and others, were on an official mission to see the humanitarian situation in the besieged camp, according to the Palestinian Authority’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which called the incident a “deliberate and unlawful act.”

Videos on social media show delegation members giving media interviews when shots are heard ringing out close to the group and forcing it to run for cover.

They were literally shooting in their direction, not making them wait a little longer at some checkpoint.

Instances are websites. Federation just means they can automatically communicate directly between multiple intakes, and share information without requiring user interaction.

Any website that implements ActivityPub APIs properly can federate with other sites as part of the fediverse.

In the light of the above ☝️ statement and in the context of the given lemmy post, l am presenting three websites as an example :

zessa.in/

urthy.in/

1ness.in/

Can such websites be created and made to federate as a part of the fediverse ?

in reply to Curious Mind

You'll essentially need a blogging functionality, where updates are posted or latest news.
in reply to Flax

In this regard, if you study the following website, this kind of website can also be constructed in this format and then federated ? You can not only insert images in the blogs but also embed videos. However, the blogging functionality has to be closed for the users.

mcvk.org/

in reply to Curious Mind

Events could be federated, so could any blogs. Wordpress creates a community that's viewable from lemmy for the blog, where users cannot post from, but can comment on
in reply to Curious Mind

It is it's own instance that renders on lemmy as a community

in reply to Flax

In this regard, l would say that you don't need to haggle to register for a domain name like you have to do for a website having a .com or .org or .net extension.

Is it possible to create email ids for such instances to which mails can be easily sent from gmail or Yahoo mail or any other normal email address ?

in reply to Curious Mind

I found these links particularly interesting 😃😃😃

Israeli soldiers fire near diplomats on visit to occupied West Bank

The Israeli military said that it fired near a diplomatic delegation which it said deviated from an approved route in the occupied West Bank on Wednesday.

Diplomatic sources said European diplomats were part of the delegation to the West Bank city of Jenin.

The military said "the delegation deviated from the approved route and entered an area where they were not authorised to be" and that soldiers fired "warning shots to distance them away."

The Palestinian Authority's Foreign Ministry said "the delegation was undertaking an official mission to observe and assess the humanitarian situation and document the ongoing violations perpetrated by" Israel. The ministry called the Israeli military's actions a violation of international law.
