I just don’t know how the country can sustain itself, or if it even should.
It shouldn't. It's a lost cause.
Oh, the billionaires who funded The Heritage Foundation, and The Federalist Society definitely have a plan.
Neo-Feudalism, with slavery from for-profit prisons via the 13th Amendment.
Until they completely abandon the Constitution, and declare a new Techno-Theocracy of America.
I love this fucking country so much.
But man, we gotta do something about the South, they are just destroying everything good in America, again.
The South is a big part of this country. You say you love this country, but are you sure you don't just love your small part of it? There's a lot more to this country than just your community.
When I say I hate this country I'm talking about the whole thing. The aggregate, the sum of all its parts, the good and the bad. There are good things about this country but they are outnumbered by the bad. For every good person, there are ten terrible people.
You say you love this country, but are you sure you don’t just love your small part of it?
I've lived in most of the country.
I love all of it except the South.
I'm sorry I can't find my way to loving a part that was literally 100% obsessed with racism and slavery for centuries, even after other Americans fought and died to stop them, and continues their racism to this day, to the point that they switched political parties when the Democrats decided they weren't willing to be racist anymore.
I hate Nazis too, and I can say I hate Nazis without saying I hate all of Germany.
I love all of it except the South.
Do you say to a significant other I love 2/3 of you? It's an odd compartmentalization, to slice off a large part of something, set that part aside, look at what remains and say I love this thing. I'm talking about America, all of America. The good and the bad, taken together.
You might say that taken together, the good outweighs the bad. In your mind, the bad is contained, concentrated in one specific region, but that's just not true. If you think racism only exists in the South, you're foolish. Did Trump only get votes in the South? If Trump had only won the South, he wouldn't be president right now.
There's also a lot more wrong with this country than racism. That is not our only problem. Even in the areas that might not be as racist, there's plenty of greed, selfishness, an attitude of "I've got mine, screw everyone else."
Do you say to a significant other I love 2/3 of you?
You mean 3/5tha?
If she was a genocidal racist? Absolutely.
I'm brown, and I lived there, they're monsters who should have been put down after the war for everyone's good.
Hitler mentioned them as the model for Germany to follow in mein kampf, the Nuremberg Laws are just Jim crow for jews.
But it's fine.
The inbred filth will resort to violence, again , they can't help it, and we'll finally fix the problem like we should.
You're not getting it. If you like a girl, but there's a part of her that you don't like, you can't just break up with that part of her, you break up with all of her. ALL of her. You get what I'm saying?
You say you love America, but there's this big part of America you hate. So you don't love ALL of America, do you?
But you also ignored the part of my comment where I rightfully pointed out that racism in America is not limited to only the South. Again, if Trump had won only the South, he wouldn't be president. You also ignored the part of my comment where I, again, rightfully pointed out that racism is not America's only problem.
YES!
WE NEED TO BREAK UP WITH ALLLL OF THE SOUTH!!!
They don't belong in America, they never did, Lincoln was wrong to not let them leave in peace to make their own 3rd world shit hole.
Like I said, I'm sure a lot of Germans loved Germany without loving the nazis, these are literally our nazis.
And I love America enough that when the time finally comes, I will gladly fight for her against the subhuman filth that have been trying to destroy her since birth.

It's a widespread belief in the South that "LIberals" want to flood the country with hispanics to drown out their "Christian Whiteness", and South Africa is their object lesson of "It could happen here".
Actual endgoal: They desperately want Jim Crow back, they only got segregation academies back this year.

Just to be clear, this "white genocide" in South Africa is entirely fictitious. It's not even an exaggeration of some small trend. The rate at which white people are killed in South Africa is no higher than for other population groups.
And yet, on the basis of this racist fiction, Trump's regime is giving "asylum" to white South Africans.

Actually it's not that.
Many Southerners actually believe White Genocide is happening here, the left is trying to flood the South with Mexicans to dilute their "Christian Whiteness" (because only white people can be christian according to them and the Gospel of Ham).
South Africa is their way to dog whistle "It could happen here" among the normies.

Ahead of Wednesday’s visit, South African government leaders were preparing to offer a workaround plan that would allow Musk’s venture to operate in South Africa. The gesture was viewed as an attempt to generate goodwill with the US administration before the talks began.
It seemed to do little to smooth things over. And when the Oval Office spectacle was underway, Trump seemed uninterested in giving Musk a speaking role.
“Elon’s from South Africa, and I don’t want to talk to him about that,” he said. “I don’t think it’s fair to him.”
Let this be the end of workarounds, exceptions and visits.

The guy has been exposed as literally taking huge amounts of money from Russia for years, during which he did his best to attack all of the US institutions and government and divide the population, he even did a fawning interview with Putin in Russia, and had a puff piece tour around a model (faked/embellished) Russian grocery store - literal cold war propaganda stuff so Putin can show the big US media guy is super impressed by Russia's stores & availability.
I suspect the main reason he is coming out hard on MAGA / Trump now is because he's been given new talking points. Trump's new deals don't benefit Putin, so bad press and more division is the order of the day (now amongst the ruling conservative party, instead of Dems vs GOP). Textbook Russian statecraft IMO.

Because the DNC tipped the scales in the favor of policies that wouldn't work against Trump, yes he lost. They did it twice. And he still supported them in the fight because he wanted Trump to lose. Bernie did more speeches for Hillary than he did for himself. Bernie still supported her, Biden, and Harris.
And where's Hillary and Harris? Hiding after losing to the biggest moron in the history of the US, that makes Dubya look like a grandmaster 5D chess player.
Where's Bernie? Doing protests, doing speeches, gathering people to stop Trump still.

Right, Trump is in control of the US. Trump is actively tearing apart the government. He's somehow busy wrecking everything and still whining on Twitter or Truth Social about how everything bad with tarrifs is Biden's fault and everything good despite Trump is his success.
Bernie is still fighting despite his party not being in the majority. Bernie is still doing rallies.
Harris isn't in any office, Bernie is. Clinton isn't in any office, Bernie is. Same with AOC. Out there doing national rallies to build numbers to at least get a voice of "Let's end Trump." They haven't left office.
Bernie is actively at least showing up to his job, and still finding time to go outside and do things. How does this invalidate my statement? Bernie is helping, Harris is doing nothing. Bernie is trying to gather people to stop Trump, Clinton isn't doing anything.
Bernie started his political career in 1981 as the mayor of Burlington, Vermont
Forty-four years later he’s rallying.
Trump started his political career in 2016 as president.
Nine years later he is still president and took over the US government.
You're exactly right. There's absolutely no way to influence the Democratic party's decisions through criticism or making it clear that they're on track to lose. Joe Biden is who we're stuck with and if you say you won't vote for him, you're completely useless. He's the only one who can beat Trump.
Strangely, he wasn't listed on my ballot so I just had to write him in.
Yeah, because voting third party has got you what so far?
The poor performance got the DNC to elect a nonbiased chair for the first time in over half a century...
If that doesn't sound huge to you, it just means you don't know enough about America's political history.
Ripping the DNC out of the neoliberals cold dead hands was fucking huge.
What? In 2024 stein got 870k, RFK got 750k, Oliver got 650k and de la Cruz got 168k.
In 2020 jogergensen got 1.85 mil, Hawkins got 400k de la Fuente got 90k, and a few others around the same
In 2016 Johnson got 4.4 mil, stein got 1.4 mil, mcmullin got 730k.
If anything, third party voting has gone down. How can you claim that was because of third party voting?
Poor performance from the DNC doesn't mean good performance for third party.
The poor performance got the DNC to elect a nonbiased chair for the first time in over half a century…
Did we have to have the conversation about how turnout depression is what happens and not people voting 3 rd party?
You're jumping around a lot, you claimed people voted 3rd party, and now are saying not enough votes 3rd party to cost Biden/Kamala the election?

A few months ago, objection(op) was arguing for third party. Now he comes in this thread and makes fun of the people defending Biden. I told him that him voting third party was just as useless as the people defending Biden. Both stances were shit. That's what I said. Or at least that's what I meant, maybe it didn't come across as such. My comment was aimed at op.
Also, nice, you're accusing me of lying by twisting my words and completely ignoring my question regarding your correlation/causation fallacy. And apparently I'm Trump in this conversation.
There's actually a really fun followup missing where they talk about how Harris gives them hope that they didn't have with Biden and how they can finally see victory.
But I could see how we would miss that because it was a really brief window before we actually just return to above because "now is not the time to be voicing opinions to your leaders and telling them what you want from their potential win to get your vote" and they went right back to we needed cult like following of Biden because we can all agree Harris offered nothing.
No genuinely, what is your point? Bernie has been arrested for marching for Civil Rights in the 1960s. apnews.com/article/fact-checki…
So Bernie having a long track record is bad, but Trump tricking America using Russian assistance is good? Like what is the point here? Trump 9 years of running, Bernie in office for a while, therefore Bernie bad?
"Worse".
There isn't even a word to describe how much worse...
It goes far beyond conspiracy theories at this point: Most major media outlets and centralized social media platforms in the world are sanewashing the entire conservative bloc in America.
They're literally copying Germany in the 1930s, with secret police, sending people to camp based on ethnicity(For all those who seem to not know: Dachau concentration camp was opened in 1933, thousands held there by 1934), etc. Elon Musk did a full blow, Hitler style Nazi salute on stage during the inaugration celebration, twice. And all the media, including pages like Snopes, are acting like "It's impossible to tell what he actually meant".
I love all the broken clock mfs in here. I’ll concede that everyone, including myself, thought he (and trump) were too old to be running because they’re both mentally declining in different ways.
We didn’t know of any obvious major health issues with Biden. He had a shit debate and everyone suddenly acts like they knew something was wrong other than just getting old, being propped up on cold meds or whatever the official excuse was. Prostate cancer doesn’t cause these symptoms.
That said, the big question would be whether or not it was known he had cancer and was getting treatment for it, the effects of treatment certainly would be hard on someone mentally, their mental capabilities, and physically. Hiding that shit and running him for office again would be fucked up.
We didn’t know of any obvious major health issues with Biden. He had a shit debate and everyone suddenly acts like they knew something was wrong other than just getting old, being propped up on cold meds or whatever the official excuse was. Prostate cancer doesn’t cause these symptoms.
Sure, no one would have known about the prostate cancer, but plenty of people had been questioning Biden's mental fitness since 2020, and they were called ageist by pundits. Stewart himself was accused of aiding Trump for running a segment on Biden's strange mental gaffes just weeks before the debate. If people like Tapper had been doing their jobs instead of deferring to the administration, we would have had answers, not questions.
Yep, I strongly remember being called a useful idiot for wanting a better canidate than Biden after the horrid debate performance, with every time being deflected to "But did you see Trump?? Clearly Biden can stop him now!!"
If Jon fucking Stewart was called ageist and a Russian bot because he accurately saw that Biden was not doing too well, its no wonder people called other fellow humans that too. I'm not shocked Apollo is trying to lie by omission of "We didn’t know of any obvious major health issues with Biden" besides being in the most stressful job in America and being the oldest person in that poisition.
But instead Biden went on "full" steam ahead, only keeping to his one term promise when internal polling showing he'd lose to Trump by 400 EC votes.
I'm loving the responses to your comment that just say, "There’s articles."
Like seriously what do they think shaped the whole “ Biden is too old” narrative? It wasn’t articles. It was regular people making jokes, memes, and content that caught on.
Meanwhile, the left was busy Googling for articles like that was gonna shift culture.
Go figure the left treating this like a research paper. Why the fuck are we like this.
Front Burner just did a podcast about all of this and how is similar with Nazi Germany. Mostly helps that this isn't an American news outlet (it's Canadian, part of CBC) about how they honestly spoke about it (Trump can't threaten to take away their broadcasting license)
Today on the show is historian Timothy Ryback. Timothy is an author and writer with The Atlantic. He’s the director of the Institute for Historical Justice and Reconciliation in The Hague. Last year he published ‘Takeover’ which documents the ways Hitler and his enablers in the German establishment cleared the pathway to Nazism through constitutional means. He’s on the show to discuss - what he refers to as the “disturbing echoes” between Nazi Germany and contemporary America. Particularly between Adolf Hitler and US President Donald Trump.
Or they were rightfully worried that changing course that late in the game would have consequences.
Biden should not have run in the first place. Speaking up that he should step aside like 2 months before the general is not the time to do it, all that does is sow further dissention.
And look how that turned out.
Did you literally wake up from a coma the day Biden's cancer diagnosis was announced or something? Or are you the rare person who isn't part of Trump's cult but also only watches right wing news sources?
"President Trump shits on Constitution in novel way!" could paraphrase a headline from literally any week this year after 1/20. And only after 1/20 because before then he was merely President-Elect Trump.
Beyond that, the news cycle is pretty short - for example, unless we have revelations about Trump sexually assaulting a woman we didn't already know about or some movement in an existing court case, it's not going to continue to be litigated in the news media because there's nothing new to say.
People lack any introspection. It's a wonder we made it as a species this long and call ourselves clever. More just cockroaches of the mammal class.
It is a little funny they downvote to show that they wouldn't have downvoted this.
This!
Both of my parents have dementia. I have relatives that died after living with dementia for a while.
Biden's level of dementia takes 3-6 years to reach that point. There is no way people around him and higher ups in democratic party didn't know he had dementia.
Dude, if Biden had run it would be super majority for republicans.
Democrats own internal polling showed that Trump was going to win 400+. This is why Nancy Pelosi picked up to phone and started pressuring him to drop.
This isn't, "drama around Bidens declining health," it's another symptom of a sickness within the Democratic party. Ruth Bader Ginsberg refused to retire when Obama was in office, so her death gave Donald Trump another Supreme Court nomination. Dianne Feinstein would not leave office despite having severe dementia, and instead died during her term. Jerry Connolly was made Democratic Chair of the House Oversight Committee despite being diagnosed with esophageal cancer. He died yesterday, made him the third House Democrat to die in the last 2 months.
The Democratic Party is led by geriatrics who refuse to relinquish power even as they drop dead in office. We should drag every single person who knew about Biden's failing mental state into the light and make sure they never work in politics again. We should demand to know if his cancer diagnosis was known before the election, and if not, why he didn't receive a cancer screening for over a decade. We need accountability for the people who allowed the party to reach this state. And before 2026, we need to go to every single House and Senate Democrat over the age of 65 and say, "Thank you for your service, but you're retiring now. Would you like to endorse anyone for your seat?"
What the whole Biden situation boils down to is this: At no point in history has a Presidential candidate ever been replaced as late in the campaign as the 2024 campaign was by the time people started seriously calling for Biden to step aside (i.e. after the debate.) The only close equivalent was in 1968, when Lyndon B. Johnson declined to run much earlier in the campaign, and it still resulted in a victory for Richard Nixon. Still, when confronted with a choice between fascism and not-fascism, many people (including many of the people in this very thread) decided to devote all their effort to throwing stones at the not-fascism side.
When Biden did finally step aside, surprise surprise, it resulted in a victory for fascism. Congratulations.
Biden staying in the race would have been 400 EC votes to Trump, a bigger margin than Harris v Trump did.
And even if Biden won, he has stage 4 prostate cancer that has metastasized to his bones, it would be a miracle even with top treatment if he lives to see the end of Trump's current term.
There's actually a somewhat brand new miracle treatment for cancer that uses individual atoms of actinium-225.
Each cancer cell gets a single atom, and then it dies when that atom decays. And since it's an alpha decay, the cell gins some high energy helium. That's it.
Well, the atomic nucleus of a helium-4 atom. Which then rips some electrons from whatever it collides with.
And then that happens a few times to produce bismuth-209, which has a halflife of 2x10^19 years. Which means it's perfectly safe.
Anyway, this treatment, called targeted alpha therapy is specifically approved for Bone metastasized prostate cancer, and significantly improves survival rates vs placebo.
It's not that good against solid tumors
Biden only dropped out because it was no longer feasible for him to win. He was perfectly willing to die in office knowing he was no longer fit for the job.
If he had made it clear he wouldn't run at least the year before, we could have likely avoided another Trump term.
Oh .world communities are definitely the new worse place on Lemmy.
Very US school system where you blame those being picked on for not leaving and no longer making it a problem for them that you exist rather than clean up their own messes because it's easier to pretend bullies need to be appeased.
I one time got a mod to admit through what felt like gritted teeth that I hadn't officially broke any "niceness" rules but were going to temp ban me anyways cause my reports of the .world user threatening me and inventing lies to slander me with was annoying.
I am deeply sorry to hear about your parents, that is a horrid disease and I hope they can be peaceful.
There is no way people around him and higher ups in democratic party didn’t know he had dementia.
Oh they knew, I suspect that if Biden won, the cabinet would have used the 25th Amendment and put Harris in control. Not the worst plan in the world, but a stupid one.
That's an incredibly frustrating problem.
I have a fairly technical background. How technical? When you mention Black-Scholes to people you get a variety of responses.
Most people just say, "WTF are you talking about? Why doesn't that guy just wipe his feet?"
Finance-curious people may have looked it up on Wikipedia.
Actual finance professionals may get excited and talk about, "the Greeks".
I'm the kind of nerd who went through the entire derivation from fundamental concepts like the stochastic discount factor and then had to compare the calculated and observed convexity of utility functions to rediscover the equity premium puzzle.
Many Democrats are happy to listen to me shred the economic "theories" that Trump blathers on about and are very satisfied to see proofs that their numbers don't actually work in real math. Many of those same people absolutely loose their shit at the implication that Democratic policies are anything less than perfect.
Don't get me wrong. Trumps economic and foreign relations policies are absolute monkey turds and I'll never get tired of throwing them in the toilet, where they belong. At the same time, hypocrisy doesn't do Democrats any favors.

They had power because the DNC was behind them, and due to the "victory fund" the DNC controlled the purse strings of a lot of state parties.
The voting members of the DNC listened, and elected a nonbiased DNC chair for the first time in decades.
So now the senior elected Dems don't have anyone behind them. Seniority only mattered as tradition, they can all lose their leadership positions now if they lose the next round of leadership votes.
Could we please get another party that actually represents people???
We basically did already. The Chair has ultimate control of the party, and we got a drastic change in chair.

Oh "drastic" change huh? First thing the new Dem chair (Martin) did was put up that right-leaning zionist bluedog centrist idiot Slotkin to rebutt trumps state of the union speech. Thats some impressive change. And its been Dems collaborating on republican votes since then, hasnt it. I see no change whatsoever with the new chair. If anything he fumbled over himself to assure the donors as quickly as he could that they were still calling the shots, and that progressivism hadnt been let into the building.
Here's the thing. No.
We don't really have two parties. We have oligarchs in control of both parties, and both parties work together to make sure no more parties can exist. They do this by making it seem like the right and the left are opposed to each other, but really both work together to keep you down.
We can't fix this with parties. What we need to do is abolish parties. Prevent rich people from consolidating power. Give no small group of power-hungry bastards the ability to control everything. This means a drastic overhaul, and the people in power are not going to give it up willingly. They won't fight fair, they won't accept the results of an election unless it goes their way, and they won't give you an opportunity to win.
You can still elect representatives, you just remove money from the equation. Candidates are given a public forum to share ideas, provide their credentials, and debate issues. Voters use a STAR voting system to vote for all the candidates they like. Special interest groups are free to speak and advertise all they want, but they cannot promote or attack a specific candidate.
It's more or less how local primaries work, just on a larger scale.
You do need to change the system, but you can keep the President, reduce the President's powers, and have a prime-minister to take care of many areas.
P.S.: I am from Portugal, he's definitely not my President.
Another party won't help. They have already gotten their fix in. Voting doesn't matter in the US anymore.
Voting won't save us now. Self defense and community defense are all we have left. The system has been stolen by the ultra rich, and they are gleefully enacting as much violence against us all as they want, because they "know" they don't have to listen to us anymore. The only fix is to Luigi the violent class.

Trump Lost. Vote Suppression Won. Here Are The Numbers…
Harris would have gained at least another 3,565,000 votes, topping Trump’s official popular vote tally by 1.2 million.NNPA (The San Diego Voice & Viewpoint)
"The “What Happened in 2024” report confirms that 30 million voters who showed up to the polls in 2020 failed to materialize in 2024. That is a big number, and it represents the largest number of drop-off voters dating back to 2012, when 27 million voters failed to return to the polls."
It wasn't a "drop off" and I was telling people why this was going to happen before the election.
The 2020 numbers were artificially inflated by vote by mail covid precautions.
Republican precincts saw the increased Democratic turnout and actively worked to make vote by mail harder which limited participation and when fewer people vote that only helps Republicans.
It was all so predictable and the fix is 100% vote by mail EVERYWHERE.

Pretty much, look at a non-covid election and compare vote by mail states to the average American turnout.
I'm biased because I live in Oregon and we tie voter registration to DMV licenses AND do 100% vote by mail.
2016: 80.33% voter turnout.
2018: 67.8%
2020: 78.5%
2022: 66.9%
2024: 75%
In 2016 there were 2,553,808 registrants and 2,051,452 voters, compared with 2020 and 2,951,428 registrants and 2,317,965 voters.
In 2024, the difference was negligible, 75% returning ballots and 2,308,256 voters. Yeah, a slight drop, but then we had a bunch of people die from Covid too.

If you compare that to the national averages:

And yet progressives say their policies are so supported and yet they can barely get Anyone elected.
Begs to wonder how that makes sense too or else they would've tea partied the dems by now.
I wish it were true but either progressives are too few or too lazy. Either way, same result.
See the part about the Democratic Party actively working against progressives, to the point of funding propaganda against them. The Dems saw the Tea Party and care more about avoiding that with progressives than they do about running candidates that can either beat the Republicans or serve the people.
And from what you just said: you'd better have never once blamed progressives for losing the Democrats an election if you're taking the "progressives are too weak" position.
If progressives were numerous enough that wouldn't matter.
Somehow the magats got their psychos in power over a number of years. Progressives don't.
People aren't going to like what you're saying, but there's an element of uncomfortable truth. Money and establishment power didn't let the neocons beat back the tea party movement. I desperately want solid progressives, but the ones who appear on my local ballot are either obviously unfit or don't garner enough votes from a "moderate" electorate. And I live in a rabidly "blue" area.
There is a hearts and minds campaign that progressives have continuously failed at, and blaming democratic elites solely for this failure is no more accurate than Democrats blaming progressives for their losses. Politics in a democracy is coalition-building, and we're apparently all failing together.
Gonna continue to call bullshit here. The grassroots movement failing to gather momentum in the face of propaganda at the cost of the nation's future is not the same as the Democrats blaming a minority for their own failures. Not even a little bit, can you please reflect a little on how absurd that claim is?
You're also not comparing apples to apples here. First: the Tea Party was an unknown element, there hadn't been a growing fringe movement like that within a major party for a century. The Democrats had the benefit of seeing that happen on the right. Second, the Republicans were willing to embrace the crazy of the Tea Party for the sake of their continuing victory. Very much in contrast, the Democrats are very clearly willing to sacrifice national victory in order to keep progressives down. Three elections in a row they've insisted on running the most centrist candidate possible, resulting two very predictable losses and one surprising victory.
Democrats insist on siding with money and corporations every time, their failures are their own fault, and very much also the fault of their supporters.
Are you with Democrats or not? You act like it's some shadowy cabal. People just go vote in a primary. Progressives don't win. And my main point is- Republicans voted in the primary for their far most right candidate but still voted Republican in the general. They trained the party to move to the right, like a dog.
Progressives either 1) aren't numerous enough to do anything like that or 2) get upset and either never vote in the primary or sit out both the primary and general when their preferred person doesn't make it.
Again, either way theyre irrelevant. This is the uncomfortable truth the op is talking about. Like Bernie and Aoc are popular yes? Holding rallies that get a lot of support? Then where are the rest of progressives?
I am left of the Democrats, and do not feel represented by what they do (regardless of what they say). I vote in Democratic primaries to try to move the party left. I vote D in the general. But you continue to dismiss what I'm saying. You seem to agree that the Republicans trained their party to move to the right but act like it's some crazy idea that the Democrats are doing the same thing? The wrong side is winning within the Democratic Party, and we're all going to lose everything because of it.
I'm not saying they're a shadowy cabal. They're very openly anti-progressive, no shadows necessary. They spend so much of primary time shitting on progressives and then complain when progressives don't want to vote for their neoliberal hacks in the general.
If you're taking the "progressives are irrelevant" position, please make sure to never blame progressives for the losses of the Democrats. Not even nonvoters. If we're not important enough to justify catering to, then we're not important enough to blame. You don't get to eat our cake and shit in it too.
Im only blaming people who either 1) don't exist because they aren't progressive or 2) don't vote.
It's pretty simple. And if youre of the opinion that progressives can't swing the election for the Democrats then youre of the opinion that theyre so insignificant that they couldn't ever tilt the Democratic party anyway.
You're talking about national elections, and I'm talking about presence in state and local elections. Candidates with a sustainable/viable chance nationally must first have an established local presence. That base builds credibility and sustainability for a movement, as others in the movement can also point towards local or state wins to justify their own candidacies.
I also happen to be familiar with my state Democratic party chairs. The idea that they could be systemically suppressing progressives in state or local elections would require a level of competence and political acumen I've never seen them demonstrate. They barely have control over their party, as is. I'm connected to the political world in my state both personally and professionally, and the concept of Democrats being able to exert this kind of control is actually laughable.
The bottom line is that you're mad that Democrats don't support your candidates, and Democrats are mad you don't support theirs. Both attitudes are unproductive. In the end, if either progressives or Democrats wants to pick up votes, they're going to need to actually persuade voters to show up and vote consistently, and not just in federal elections. This will include voters you don't necessarily like or fully agree with. You know who ran candidates in and voted for every single school board race? The damn Tea Party.
I quite agree with what you're talking about with local elections.
But you've misinterpreted what I'm mad about. I'm not mad that they don't support progressives. I'm mad that the Democratic Party (the DNC, not your local party chairs) spends more time and effort demonizing and sidelining progressives than learning to work with us. That has effects all the way down to local primary elections where voters who have been fed anti-progressive propaganda are voting against progressive candidates.
What I'm mad about is not the lack of support, I'm mad about the absolutely ridiculous hypocrisy of a party clearly working against progressives at every turn and then blaming us when they don't get their way.
As a side note, I'm also mad that the progressive movement has a lot of real shitty candidates in local elections. Many of them are clearly just absolute weirdos who shouldn't be anywhere near an elected office. But a small movement isn't going to have the reach everywhere. My House rep is progressive, and I get to watch as the person that represents me gets hamstrung by their own party time after time after time. And then the very same Party blames us for Donald Trump. It's absolutely infuriating.

I also agree with the previous person that it's a time for revolutionary change. It's clear the current system needs to fundamentally transform to be stable, either by doubling down on capitalism at the expense of democracy, or by doubling down on democracy at the expense of capitalism. It's clear now that the two cannot coexist.
It's definitely prime time for revolutionary change
