Transparent PCBs Trigger 90s Nostalgia

in reply to Arthur Besse

This whole thing is kinda scary. About how easily some people can spiral into delusion when over-relying on LLMs.

These models fill gaps with plausible-sounding but often enough fabricated information.

It’s understandable how non technical users treat their outputs as profound revelations, mistaking AI-generated fiction for hidden truths.

What are you talking about. How many people do you know falling into psychosis from using AI lol

AI fear is just a new modern hysteria. You people are making shit up based on over blown yellow journalism

in reply to Melvin_Ferd

This is a real thing. It turns out more people than you would think are prone to paranoia and schizophrenia and if they spend too much time talking to LLMs they start to believe that the LLM is their friend, and then that the LLM is omniscient, and then from there it can spiral out of control as the LLM makes up a world of delusions for them. It's hard to know how many people are affected because neither the victim nor the LLM realize there is a problem, and the problem is relatively new.
in reply to Melvin_Ferd

The problem is how the whole thing was presented to people. You just need to pass by subreddits related to ChatGPT to see the amount of misunderstandings about how it works, just an example:

A while back I heard someone describe LLMs as a magic 8-ball with infinite answers that uses math to nudge it towards the answer you want.
in reply to Random Dent

I'd replace the word answer with response but ultimately yes. Thats why its so good at boiler plate things and so bad at anything else.
in reply to Melvin_Ferd

Its not common but it is a thing. Buddy of mine (already was predisposed to schizophrenia) had an llm trigger a psychotic break. They are hallucination machines. Thats their entire purpose.
in reply to Vendetta9076

Right I have no doubt that is happening. I watched it with friends who did the same weed and media and church and COVID and math. They're just same old psychotic they always were. Which is why this is bullshit journalism.
in reply to Melvin_Ferd

Look the fuck around, it’s everywhere, look at Q, then MAGA, they’re all being fed bullshit that’s incomprehensible.
in reply to chonkyninja

I think it's more likely that you all are being mislead by yellow journalism more than people are becoming psychotic from using it.

That... makes a lot of sense.

Meanwhile, Shadow Warrior 2 with HRD looks amazing IF you raise the brightness a bit and lower the contrast (5-10% each would do it).

Best visuals I ever saw, even with how old the game is.

Understanding The Data Center Water Regulation Debate

Women Dating Safety App 'Tea' Breached, Users' IDs Posted to 4chan

Users from 4chan claim to have discovered an exposed database hosted on Google’s mobile app development platform, Firebase, belonging to the newly popular women’s dating safety app Tea. Users say they are rifling through peoples’ personal data and selfies uploaded to the app, and then posting that data online, according to screenshots, 4chan posts, and code reviewed by 404 Media.

You should block Censys from scanning your network

Found out about them from my firewall being full of their scans...you can google the ASN number or use a website like ipinfo.io/AS398722 to find out what ips are associated with that ASN thing to also block on your network..dont give your privacy up to them for nothing.

Hacker sneaks infostealer malware into early access Steam game

A threat actor called EncryptHub has compromised a game on Steam to distribute info-stealing malware to unsuspecting users downloading the title.

A few days ago, the hacker (also tracked as Larva-208), injected malicious binaries into the Chemia game files hosted on Steam.

Chemia is a survival crafting game from developer ‘Aether Forge Studios,’ which is currently offered as early access on Steam but has no public release date.

in reply to RetroGoblet79

Did they hack Steam, or the dev's computer? Or is this the dev deliberately shoving malware into a cheap asset flip game?

Of course Steam should do more to check what's being uploaded, but the distinction feels important.

in reply to Apeman42

Article:

It is unclear how EncryptHub managed to add the malicious files to the game project but one explanation could be an insider helping out. The developer of the game has not published any official statements on their game's Steam page or on social media.

If you can't fine CoMaps at all, F-Droid has the anti feature "tethered network services" hidden by default. CoMaps is intending to remedy the anti feature

I read through the differences with Lemmy and nothing really convinced me right off the bat. For what reasons do you personally prefer piefed?

Actual instance blocking

in reply to Blaze (he/him)

holy shit that's metal af why is that not the first thing on the list
in reply to PotatoesFall

Because I haven't updated that page in about a year.

There's been soooo many new features since then but I have a hard time knowing what people new to PieFed really need to know about...

Actual instance blocking

Does it also have actual user blocking too i.e. two way?

in reply to Blaze (he/him)

Oh, might have to give it a look then. Since that is our biggest gripe with lemmy.
in reply to Blaze (he/him)

Yeah, we hadn't considered it until now, but if it does has two way blocking we might move over. Is there any source saying it does have that feature, and do existing lemmy apps work with it, or do we need a whole new app?
in reply to Of the Air (cele/celes)

For apps there is Voyager, Summit, Blorp and Mlem who support Piefed

For the blocking feature documentation, @rimu@piefed.social is there something? I had a look for 5 minutes but couldn't find anything
