Resurfaced clip shows Epstein pleading the Fifth when asked if he was with Trump around underage girls

A resurfaced clip shows sex offender Jeffrey Epstein pleading the Fifth when he was asked during a deposition if he ever socialized with underage girls around Donald Trump.

The video clip, unearthed by left-leaning outlet MeidasTouch, shows Epstein responding to questions during a March 2010 deposition. The disgraced financier was questioned by an attorney of an alleged victim, Vice News previously reported.

If this hasn't been in a cheesy action movie yet, I want to know why.
in reply to MicroWave

Something doesn't sit right with me, Epstein has been under investigation for 20 years, dead for 6, out of those 20, 11 were ruled by the Democrats but all the blame goes to Trump for not investigating himself?

Has anyone checked if Biden is still breathing or the rock in which Obama hides under?

in reply to TheEighthDoctor

“Doesn’t sit right with me?” Just say what you mean. Do you need it spelled out instead of posting some vague conspiratorial insinuation? We all know that Epstein’s clientele list was pushed to the back burner when dems were trying to hold on to their seats in a tight election. They know they have members on the list too. There absolutely were calls to dig into the Epstein connections because it would have put trump under even more pressure while out of office, but they were ignored because Dems chose self-protection instead of pursuing the list to bury trump in an effort to maintain their grip on seats they were desperate to not lose. Combined with a shamelessly spineless judiciary, and lackluster candidates, it cost them everything.

It's not a conspiratorial insinuation, It's pretty clear there are people from both sides on the list, the "Doesn’t sit right with me" is about public pressure not being applied to all culprits.

There’s a difference between the ideological nihilism based on the desire to destroy those they disagree with in some selfish rush to be in some sky-fairy’s afterlife vs wanting a corrupt and greedy system to collapse so that it can hopefully be rebuilt with the best of intentions. They are not the same thing.

Absolutely the wealthy pocketbooks backing campaign money have a huge influence on candidates, and it would be no stretch at all to suspect they engaged in quid pro quo of funding suppression of investigation into the list.

in reply to RememberTheApollo_

Ummm....no shit, Sherlock.

Unless you're implying that's justification for doing shit to increase the fractures and divisions in our society, in which case you may as well take your arguments to someone else. Cuz I know exactly what that smells like and I ain't buying a stinking pile of shit.

in reply to TheEighthDoctor

The point is that you have pedophile narcissist elitist racists running your country.

And from what I see the democrats might be also capitalism junkies, but at least they seem more human and caring when compared to the bullshit Americans voted in.

Of course it is odd that those files were never released. Most likely reason: too many very rich and powerful are on it. Perhaps even from other countries which would likely open a huge diplomatic shitshow.

Though with Trump fucking up the US and the world with his racist and sociopathicly drenched dementia I say fuck the consequences if it means that dude gets what he deserves: the rest of his wrinkly life in prison.

The answer really should have been "fuck the consequences" from the start. It wasn't justified before because there could be diplomatic and economic fallout, but we're now in a political environment where the previous protectors of the status quo are willing to push toward that result and the lie at the core of a lot of MAGA is bucking their leadership to push in the same direction, so even if they haven't both become better people en masse, they might get there anyway.

Hong Kong places bounty on 19 pro-democracy activists

The police say that the "Hong Kong Parliament" group is guilty of crimes against national security. The pro-democracy group held an online vote to form a "legislature" aimed at "opposing one-party dictatorship."
in reply to MicroWave

Makes me think how China could've eventually reunited with Taiwan if they just played a long game and didn't destroy Hong Kong's autonomy. But instead authoritarian habits kicked in.
in reply to mgnome

That’s actually an interesting point. And you’re right, the effects of their HK policy will surely be to remove any doubt in Taiwanese minds that they need to defend their island with force.

The Working-Class Trump Voters Who Can Still Be Won

in reply to return2ozma

The problem with Democrats is that they don't even acknowledge that there is a problem.

Blue collar people are struggling and the economy has failed them, hell the economy has failed everyone except the 1% to a certain extend.

Democrats need to fight for the people and acknowledge the problem becuase right now it's only Trump that has done so. The problem is that his only solution is rounding up brown and trans people and stealing as much as he can for himself...

in reply to madcaesar

They did acknowledge the problem in 2008, when Obama ran the first time and the support from the working class (and other non-1%) was good. Then he quickly turned into a status quo democrat and they haven’t tried it again since.

I love Lemmy

It's brought me joy in life and I've learned so many new things. How cool is it that we get to enjoy all of this cool stuff for free (as in cost) and free (as in freedom)?

That is all. Hope everyone has a nice day.

French President Macron says France will recognise Palestine as a state

The French president offered support for Israel after the Oct. 7, 2023 Hamas attacks and frequently speaks out against antisemitism, but he has grown increasingly frustrated about Israel's war in Gaza, especially in recent months.

"Given its historic commitment to a just and sustainable peace in the Middle East, I have decided that France will recognise the state of Palestine,'' Macron posted. ″Peace is possible.''

He also posted a letter he sent to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas about the decision.

Thailand launches airstrikes on Cambodia as border clashes leave at least 14 dead

in reply to jaybone

The article has more info than the excerpt from OP but sure.

Tl;Dr - Cambodia and Thailand share a border that each side thinks isn't drawn how it should be. They mostly coexist peacefully. A Thai soldier got killed by a landmine going down a path the Thai govt claims was not supposed to be mined and they're alleging Cambodia mined it. Cambodia says otherwise. It escalated from there with Thailand retaliating and then Cambodia retaliating against that and so it goes.

There's not like ... A good reason for the fighting that I can discern but I'm not an expert on the two countries history.

Popular sugar substitute linked to brain cell damage and stroke risk

Erythritol, a widely used sugar substitute found in many low-carb and sugar-free products, may not be as harmless as once believed. New research from the University of Colorado Boulder reveals that even small amounts of erythritol can harm brain blood vessel cells, promoting constriction, clotting, and inflammation—all of which may raise the risk of stroke.

in reply to Redditsux

This seems interesting because they did some research in the actual mechanism that could create a cause-effect relation. Still need to be repeated to justify legal changes but that's a good start.

Much better than these "correlation" studies that say nothing. Like the ones saying "people who doesn't drink any alcohol die sooner that people who drink a cup of wine each day", that's totally faulty for a lot of evident reasons. And until now most artificial sweeteners studies were like that "people who use artificial sweeteners tend to have more health issues", like with the drink is reasonable to assume and consider that people who do such dietary changes is more likely to already have an underlying health issue that they are trying to cope with and it's obviously more in risk that healthy people that doesn't feel the need to control their diet.

As I said this study seems a little more promising as they did research on the actual mechanisms on which the health issues may happen. I hope it gets repeated enough times and, if needed, the product would be banned or properly labeled.

As long as they don't find a problem with maltitol. I just discovered "low-sugar" ice creams made using the stuff and they're amazing

It's not zero sugar like erythritol, and it's not as sweet, but I like it

Francis Ford Coppola – “Apocalypse Now – Final Cut” (1979)

„Apocalypse Now“ ist kein Antikriegsfilm. Er ist ein Dokument des imperialen Wahns. Er glaubt nicht an Erlösung. Auch nicht an Erkenntnis. (ARD)

Why Trump’s fast food obsession matters

While you're at it, next do his obsession with abusing young girls and why that matters.

You know what the craziest thing about fast food is? Donald Trump is in the Epstein files.

Amit Segal, another outspoken defender of Israel, cited the same report in raising a similar alarm, warning that a famine “would see Israel lose even its most strident supporters.”

Doubt

in reply to PhilipTheBucket

Meh, maybe in America, maybe a few. I used to support Israel, felt they were the underdogs. Now that they've gone mask off, only people still on their side are the people who view Palestinians as vermin the world is better off without. Those people aren't budging on their support.

It’s almost like someone should step in and do something. Probably better the stay out of it and persecute everyone who voices opposition to this genocide though. Yeah, that’s the best option now that I think about it.
