While Russian courts have little power to force the handover of Euroclear’s euro or dollar assets held in Belgium, they do have the power to take retaliatory action against Euroclear balances held in Russian financial institutions.

However, in 2024 the European Commission introduced a legal mechanism to compensate Euroclear for losses incurred in Russia due to its compliance with Western sanctions — effectively neutralizing the economic effects of Russia’s retaliation.

it looks like euroclear following through on their promise of legal action is the only thing that will carry any weight.

in reply to eldavi

Given that they want to steal Russian assets because they've run out of money to fund the war, it's not clear where the money to compensate Euroclear would come from. However, that's not really even the main issue. The real risk is that Europe becomes toxic to foreign investment once they do this. Nobody in their right mind would ever park money in Europe or invest into European industry after that. The whole attempt to seize Nexperia doesn't help build confidence either. And of course, foreign money that's currently in Europe is going to flee as well which will lead to a huge financial crisis bringing us back to the question of how the EC can possibly reimburse anything.
in reply to ☆ Yσɠƚԋσʂ ☆

where else can the rich park their money?

the us used to be the answer; but things have changed and i wonder if they'll just park it in europe anyways.

in reply to eldavi

BRICS countries are the most likely destinations. There's little chance that anybody outside the west would park money in Europe at this point.

Anyone who doesn't invade, rape, torture and pillage will still be pretty safe when investing in Europe

don't like this

in reply to deifyed

Clearly rape, torture, and pillaging have fuck all to do with investing in Europe given that the US is one of the biggest trading partners of Europe. Try to put a bit more effort into your artless trolling.
in reply to deifyed

So then the US should avoid investing in Europe at all costs, eh?

The Aftermath of the 12-Day War Between Israel and Iran

Hind Hassan
Dec 11, 2025

In an interview with Al Jazeera on June 19, IAEA Director-General Rafael Grossi said that, while the agency had warned about the level of Iran’s uranium enrichment, it had found no evidence that Iran was building a nuclear bomb. “We said very clearly in that report that preceded the dramatic events and the attack that we did not find in Iran elements that indicate there is an active and systematic plan to develop nuclear weapons,” Grossi said.

This echoed previous assessments by U.S. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, who stated in March that the intelligence community “continues to assess that Iran is not building a nuclear weapon, and Supreme Leader Khamenei has not authorized a nuclear weapons programme, which he suspended in 2003. The IC [intelligence community] continues to monitor closely if Iran decides to reauthorise its nuclear weapons program.”

Game Patents Need To Die

in reply to CubitOom

Abolish all patents and copyrights, everywhere, except for a creator’s ability to assert “I made this”.

Against Intellectual Monopoly

in reply to CubitOom

I have advocated for the abolishment of IP many times in my life. Never, in my wildest dreams, would have thought that it would be abolished willingly through AI.

All it took was to show that they could make more money by ignoring it. Like a light switch IP suddenly gets switched off. Now the corrupted federal government considers it a matter of national security and will protect it at all costs.

Truly a bizarre world we live in.

Britain threatened to cut off ICC funding over Netanyahu arrest warrant, claims prosecutor

The British government threatened to defund the international criminal court and leave the Rome statute that set it up if it pressed ahead with plans to issue an arrest warrant against Benjamin Netanyahu, the ICC’s prosecutor has claimed.

Karim Khan made the allegation in a submission to the court defending his decision to prosecute Israel’s prime minister.

Khan does not name the individual who made the threats, saying the call on 23 April 2024 was with a British official, but reports have suggested the caller may have been the then British foreign secretary, David Cameron. Khan said the official had argued that issuing arrest warrants against Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant, the former Israeli defence minister, was disproportionate.

If this is something you're actually going through, OP, you should know that (1) the trimesters can all feel dramatically different, sometimes even turning on a dime, and (2) it's definitely always ok to call up your OB anytime if something feels wrong.

Reddit challenges Australia's social media ban for under-16s in the court

Reddit has filed a High Court challenge alleging that Australia's social media restrictions are being applied to the company inaccurately.

The company is currently complying with the legislation but has said the new law "has the unfortunate effect of forcing intrusive and potentially insecure verification processes on adults as well as minors".

While I do know Microsoft HAS accepted studios (or groups of workers) unionizing in the past... I wonder how they'll react to this one, considering that when the voice actor strike was going on they replaced one of the voice actors in Call of Duty Black Ops 6 Zombies, who just happened to have been Samantha Maxis' original actor for nearly 15 years before that :|
