Switching to AMD GPU for better gaming performance?

OS: CachyOS

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070

Board: MPG B550 GAMING PLUS

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X (16) @ 4.43 GHz
Memory: 31.26 GiB

i try to keep it short: i have issues with some games (like the witcher 3) and often hear that its an issue with nvidia drivers etc..

So my question is: would a switch / small upgrade to a AMD Radeon 6800 be worth it?

Edit:
Small updates:
- witcher 3 was an example. I play newer stuff. But my partner is paying witcher 3 and it lags, while I had to just tune down some settings in horizon remaster.
- I would buy an used and sell mine (would get around the same price on eBay ±40€

It boils down to D3D12 being slower on NVIDIA on Linux and it’s a known issue. There is some work being done on this by NVIDIA and VKD3D-Proton, but I wouldn’t hold my breath knowing how long things take to improve on NVIDIA side. If you get good deal on RDNA2 or newer, it works incredibly well today.
in reply to FuyuhikoDate

Do not. Amd gpu drivers are completely broken, they reset every 10 minutes and it takes years to fix. Amd has thousands and thousands of issues open and doesn't care
in reply to Mubelotix

I can count on 1 hand the number of GPU driver resets I've had this year, and they all started when I got my new 9070XT, and stopped when I nuked my multiple years old Arch install.
in reply to Mubelotix

HM, the only question I have on that point is, what let you think that they dont care about their issues?

Price of a bot army revealed across hundreds of online platforms worldwide

A new analysis using twelve months of COTSI data, published in the journal Science, shows that verifying fake accounts for use in the US and UK is almost as cheap as in Russia, while Japan and Australia have high prices due to SIM costs and photo ID rules.

The average price of SMS verification for an online platform during the year-long study period running to July 2025 was $4.93 in Japan and $3.24 in Australia, yet just a fraction of that in the US ($0.26), UK ($0.10) and Russia ($0.08).

The research also reveals that prices for fake accounts on Telegram and WhatsApp appear to spike in countries about to have national elections, suggesting a surge in demand due to “influence operations”.

Help me understand this

This is not a linux post at all, and I apologize in advance, but I am stuck and this isn't making sense to me at all.
How is this

Cooling my gpu better than this
in reply to DonutsRMeh

Add context or people can't answer your questions. I'd say you're mistaken and that's a curve for more quiet, not cooler.

Probably it's not, probably what happens is that the GPU is throttling and not reaching the same performance, and with less performance comes less heat. Try running a benchmark to see if there's any significant difference in performance.

Germany is a fiefdom run by like 10 rich families and their extended families.

The motherfuckers also refused to lower catch limits on fishing in the Mediterranean, these people don’t give a fuck because they’re pretty sure climate change won’t get that bad and their wealth and power will be able to protect them from any form of civil unrest.

I’ve met these billionaires and their children they really are this callous.

Mailing in your taxes? CRA says changes are coming amid push to digital

in reply to Sunshine (she/her)

Please please please let me send in my taxes digitally without having to use a third party service.
in reply to MacroCyclo

Ya ill be doing paper until the CRA has a fully publicly funded program
in reply to Sunshine (she/her)

Seems like a good idea, though what about people that choose to, or don't have internet access? Also does this account for people who file taxes in braille.
