Mark Carney’s silence on Venezuela reveals complicity

in reply to mrdown

Well I mean in line with the same logic, I don't really notice Europe screaming about it much either.

I think the very big Canadian lesson in all of this, and especially what we've learned with Ukraine and Russia and all of that, is that we are going to be largely left to our own devices. Thoughts and prayers and some token contributions are going to be made from our allies should something stupid happen, and thats going to be about it. So Canada better get double time working on this Citizens Army and all these other initiatives that are supposedly in the plans for 2026. We are going to get caught flat footed otherwise. It's going to be 1936 and we are Poland.

Europe is as hypocrical only caring about themselves preaching human right abuses and democracy while being involved in many conflicts in africa, now some african countries are turning to russia unfortunatly because of it

DOHA, QATAR—Since President Donald Trump falsely proclaimed the dawn of a new era of peace and harmony in the Middle East in early October, Palestinians in Gaza have lived in an Israeli-imposed purgatory. The scorched-earth terror bombings and full-spectrum blockade on any life essentials entering Gaza have been replaced by sporadic, though daily, Israeli strikes and a trickle of food and medicine deliveries in quantities far below the terms agreed to in the October 10 “peace” deal. What is happening in Gaza is not a ceasefire, but a lower intensity, slower-paced killing operation by an Israeli regime daring Palestinians to fight back.

As the White House struggles to convince even a single nation to deploy forces in Gaza on a mission to disarm the Palestinian resistance, Hamas negotiators say there has been no formal communication from the U.S. on how it intends to proceed on any of the terms laid out in Trump’s sweeping plan.

I'm hopeful but I will get excited once it is in actual builds and have been benchmarked.

Yeah for sure, I do think it's only a matter of time before people figure out a new substrate. It's really just a matter of allocating time and resources to the task, and that's where state level planning comes in.

University of Michigan Regents Who Led the Charge Against Pro-Palestine Protestors Are Now Backing Prosecutor Karen McDonald’s Candidacy for State Attorney

by Tom Perkins

Last year, the pro-Israel regents of University of Michigan (U-M) ignited controversy by recruiting State Attorney General Dana Nessel to crackdown on campus Gaza protesters. Now, members of U-M’s Board of Regents are making large donations to Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald, a candidate who may replace Nessel.

McDonald is the prosecutor in a wealthy suburban county north of Detroit. McDonald also received the highest level of corporate donations from the state’s largest businesses and executives, and is viewed as the establishment choice to replace Nessel.

McDonald is also receiving significant backing from donors that include prolific GOP contributors and those connected to pro-Israel organizations in metro Detroit, as well as from national organizations like Friends of the Israeli Defense Forces and AIPAC.

How long does it take for pirate copy quality to improve?

I obtained a recent release (like, not even been 24 hours) and the quality is shitty. That's normal, that's expected, it's probably someone with a camera in the movie theater. However I want to ask...

How long does it usually take however for pirate versions of movies to approach anywhere near streaming service quality?

in reply to Lemuria

Like everyone else said, when it gets released on streaming or physical.

For the Minecraft movie we saw a version that was missing visual effects and had real people heads on villagers.

in reply to Lemuria

There's been a few movies where it's like almost instantly. Sometimes the screeners get leaked, and they tend to be higher quality. Final release quality is usually just before they start coming out for sale on the Google Play/Amazon stores, or when they start playing in the secondary market budget theaters. If you have one of those nearby, when you see they are playing the movie you are after, start looking for a higher quality dl

Maple money myth persists for new polymer bills

I came across an old story from back in 2013, when the world was seemingly a little brighter, that I thought might be worth a share as we near the end of 2025.

Canadians have been raising a stink with the Bank of Canada about the new plastic bank notes.

Emails to bank officials from the public in the months after the polymer bills were introduced repeatedly ask whether a scent of maple syrup has been added to the notes.

The correspondence, obtained under the Access to Information Act, asks the bank to confirm whether a scratch-and-sniff feature has been quietly added.

Rumours of the maple-syrup scent got started on the internet soon after the first bank notes were introduced in 2011, and have persisted in YouTube videos, blogs and Tweets.

The bank insists it has not added a scent, maple or otherwise, to any of the new plastic bills.

But the maple myth is likely to persist, with some Canadians claiming the odour might be an unexpected byproduct of the manufacturing process.

The higher the denomination the stronger the smell seems to be. Get a stack of fresh 50’s and you can REALLY smell it.
in reply to veee

Guys, I have one of the first batch in a ziplock and it still smells like maple.

Either they're lying or it was accidental.
