Edgar is excited by what this discovery might mean for humans.

I don't think you can apply jelly biology directly to human biology. Some 500 million years inbetween, there ought to be some slight differences.

The better we understand the nervous systems of other species, the better we can understand our own through comparison and testing, which in turn can lead to more ideas for medical treatments- or augmentation, if you're into that kind of thing.

'Dictatorship': Saied's landslide re-election results met with doubt by Tunisians

Incumbent Saied, accused by the opposition and civil society of authoritarianism, was re-elected with an overwhelming majority of 90.7 percent of ballots in a vote considered a foregone conclusion and rigged by the authorities.

The election was marked by a record abstention rate. The voter turnout was 28.8 percent, the lowest since the introduction of democracy in 2011, following the ousting of longtime autocrat Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali.

Some social media users also denounced the role played by the international community in Tunisia's autocratic drift, especially the European Union, which is accused of turning a blind eye to Saied's illiberal turn in exchange for his cooperation in preventing migration to Europe.

Good thing MBS bought them a Twitter so they don't have to worry about another Arab spring

Indian web design: cheap, but it works. Here's why

Looking for a desktop environment for my media pc

I control my media pc running Popos with a remote mouse/keyboard combo I found on Amazon and while this works pretty good, I would like a more "big picture mode" like experience that works well with using a remote.

I know theres some distros out there that are geared specifically for a media pc but I don't wanna reinstall my system. My internet is painfully slow at times and drops out frequently (yay for rural America) so even doing system updates can take a long time or just time out. I'd rather not babysit my pc to get everything working again how i want it so if I could find just a desktop environment to use that would be great. If not, such is life.

So far, Plasma bigscreen looked the most promising: plasma-bigscreen.org/ but any recommendations would be helpful. I've tried looking some up myself but searching the web has become pretty useless for something more niche or specific like this and I figure the good people on here would have better advice anyways.

Oh interesting. I may look into that. Thank you for the suggestion!

Interesting. They say that they took the patches from Fedora. Does that mean that the Fedora grub package conforms to BLS by default?

Edit: Seems like they do. I thought they would rather just switch to systemd-boot by default...

Thanks, I meant in the Github repo you linked.

Besides I'm missing many if the functions that I see in the screenshots and description, is 1.2 indeed the latest release?

Open TV reaches 1.0 and is finally on flathub!

Open TV is an ultra-fast IPTV app that uses mpv for playback.

After rewriting the app in Rust (tauri specifically) for the last 3 months, Open TV is finally on flathub 🎊🎊

The app also now supports multi sources and other niceties.

If you use hypnotix or other IPTV apps, please give my app a try!

Like the app? Please consider donating. Open TV is a completely solo effort. It would help me allocate more time to its development.

There's a large number of legal IPTV streams -- a lot of them are just the streams you would normally be able to access via Pluto, Plex, and other services. There's also a lot of public access/public media channels are legit and free All of the ones available at the link I posted should be legal. There are "pirate" IPTV streams out there, but I don't know any off the top of my head. I would check with the c/piracy community.

The really tricky part is getting an Electronic Program Guide (EPG) for free. Very few EPG providers are willing to give that away. You can roll your own for free but it's complicated enough that I basically gave up on it.

in reply to Sundray

Wow, this is incredible. Thank you!

Yeah the EPG bit is very confusing. And even the guides are confusing; lots of assumptions on base knowledge.

Not really interested in piracy, just what I can quickly scan on that repo is interesting enough for me. Thank you very much!

Mastodon 4.3 released

in reply to Otter

Now that 4.3 is done, our focus for the next release will be on implementing the highly requested features of quote posts

OMG, it's actually happening!?

in reply to 👍Maximum Derek👍

I hope not. Had very bad experience with these and toxicity they enabled on Xitter and one of the main reasons why I left it for mastodon quite early. I would much more like to see if they focused on making it possible to also migrate posts when you change an instance/server.
in reply to Jure Repinc

Quote post can be useful if implemented with more control, not just copying existing Twitter quote.

I recall the dev want to let user disable quote on individual post.

in reply to Otter

Awesome update and I'm very excited for their next one. Recommendation algorithms are now a must have if you want to attract younger people to the platform.

Anybody who's not an utter ignoramus knows that burgerland already tried invading Cuba. Not only that but Guantanamo Bay is still under occupation where burgerlanders run a torture camp.

Yeah, I am well aware. The absolute fuckin morons we put in charge as humans can't seem to figure out how not to fuck everything up.

in reply to UlyssesT [he/him]

But don't worry, I'm sure the US with the current administration and the presumptive next administration bragging about how the US is the largest fossil fuel producer of all time also has nothing to do with it.
in reply to PowerCrazy

Burgerland's buying a lot of that soy and beef, too. And mahogany for yuppie furniture.
