Exclusive: Stop Israel from bombing Iran's oil sites, Gulf states urge US

As part of their attempts to avoid being caught in the crossfire, Gulf states including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar are also refusing to let Israel fly over their airspace for any attack on Iran and have conveyed this to Washington, the three sources close to government circles said.

The moves by the Gulf states come after a diplomatic push by non-Arab Shi'ite Iran to persuade its Sunni Gulf neighbours to use their influence with Washington amid rising concerns Israel could target Iran's oil production facilities.

During meetings this week, Iran warned Saudi Arabia it could not guarantee the safety of the Gulf kingdom's oil facilities if Israel were given any assistance in carrying out an attack, a senior Iranian official and an Iranian diplomat told Reuters.

1 year of silence but when the oil starts getting endangered they sure move fast.
in reply to geneva_convenience

It's worse than that, everything oil is set up like a domino mexican standoff. If the oil terminal from Iran gets destroyed, basically they destroy the other's oil infrastructure that is very vulnerable, and basically then there is not nearly enough oil globally and then the gears running the world infrastructure starts breaking down. Will be a climate activist's wet dream since up to 20% of global oil stops trading
in reply to notaviking

That dream would quickly turn into a nightmare after the resultant inflation drives the election of climate denying fascists around the globe who would jail said climate activists and clamp down on any climate action.

The US has been drilling (and fracking) like there’s no tomorrow, to the point where we have passed Trump’s peak domestic oil and gas production.

I wonder wh…

Oh

When asked on Israel pre-emptively striking Iran:

“The expansion of Israel and its proxies is an absolute fundamental necessity for the United States..."

cava in waybar

imgur.com/a/aR5lfkS

i, a simpleton, have succeeded in placing cava within my waybar.
But i, a simpleton, have succeded in making cava a solid bar when audio is playing.
is there a way to adjust this ? should i remove some of the icons in the modules section of my waybar config? would that even help?
am i to just shout into the void?

tldr: cava make too big. Me unhappy.

Try increasing the height of the bar to some insane value. Just to make sure it’s not cava being unable to scale down.
in reply to tekato

so, funnily enough, the icons stayed the same size when i increased the bar height. imgur.com/2tnjRZ2
in reply to tekato

i just tried it in plasma and it works fine. i use waybar with sway on the same computer. so maybe its a sway problem?
in reply to HotsauceHurricane

Doubt it’s a sway problem. You got it to work with waybar in plasma, or just in a terminal? Anyways, my setup is also sway+waybar so I’ll try to use cava later today.
in reply to tekato

i just tried it in sway and it works!

but now the whole section in waybar is upsizing & downsizing with the music. * shrug emoji

Palestinian Activist Issa Amro (Youth Against Settlements) Awarded Right Livelihood 2024

in reply to NightOwl

Seriously, the West should stop support those warmongers who caused such wide scale destruction and civilian suffering. Weren't they proven to commit war crimes and crimes against humanity over and over again. How much more civilians need to die for Germany to stop supporting those lunatics?
in reply to filister

This is a lot like a gang initiating new members by having them commit a crime. You won't squeal on the crew if you're a criminal too. Maybe the 30s and 40s aren't so bad since Israel is mirroring the process since 48.

Helping to make a new genocide to atone for the sin of making an old genocide

in reply to realcaseyrollins

what's the time scale of such an event? days? years? aeons?
in reply to realcaseyrollins

That’s a pretty sexy headline you’ve got there :)

Netanyahu is like a spoiled child who’s deliberately annoying the fuck out of EVERYONE, because he knows that there will be no serious consequences. Although Daddy US might pretend to scold him, ultimately, Daddy will give him as many bombs as he wants.

The school bully, who knows the guy with the big muscles and small peepee

in reply to NightOwl

The inquiry found that Israel was committing ‘war crimes and crimes against humanity’ in its attacks on hospitals.

Can't wait for this to be ignored like every other finding that they are committing war crimes.

in reply to HiddenLayer555

Please don't jump to conclusions. Let's wait for them to investigate themselves first. We have to give them the benefit of the doubt, regardless of what our eyes, ears, common sense, and reality tell us.
in reply to NightOwl

I mean how else are they supposed to ensure continued western support?

This war, like almost all wars, will end with a negotiation and/or peace treaty. If only we could skip the whole death and destruction part and get straight to peace.

Please don't use the N-word, this is offensive to Zelensky.

Poll: How should the Social Web Foundation engage with Meta?

The Social Web Foundation (SWF) is a new non-profit with a mission of "a growing, healthy, financially viable and multi-polar Fediverse”. In TechCrunch, Sarah Perez reported that SWF has "some backing" from Meta as well as Flipboard, Ghost, Mastodon, and others as well as a "large grant" from the Ford Foundation. "In total, SWF is closing in on $1 million in financial support."

One of the hot buttons in the discussion is SWF's relationship with Meta. So I set up a series of polls on Mastodon. Here are the options for this one -- I'm not sure how to do polls on Lemmy, so please leave your thoughts in the comments

  • SWF shouldn't engage with Meta at all
  • SWF should work with Meta occasionally, when it's necessary
  • SWF should work with Meta together often, but no formal relationship
  • SWF should have Meta as a partner, advisor, or some other formal relatoinship, but no funding
  • SWF should take funding from Meta, but no formal relationship
  • SWF should take funding from Meta and a formal relatiionship
in reply to The Nexus of Privacy

They should issue guidelines that Meta could follow if they chose to.

There should be no arrangement further than that.
