The Israeli-American Businessman Pitching a $200 Million Plan to Deploy Mercenaries to Gaza

in reply to geneva_convenience

So the plan is to pay mercenaries to deliver aid, instead of the many, many NGOs and aid orgs already champing at the bit to coordinate and deliver?

Or does Israel just wanna try changing it up by bombing PMCs this time?

Trying to avoid US elections content as a non-US citizen. Is this possible on the default Lemmy-UI? I prefer it over Tesseract and Voyager (which have built-in keyword filters)

Hello everyone,

Basically title. At the moment I use the "hide post" feature when I see this kind of posts in generic communities (e.g. !nostupidquestions@lemmy.world ), but I was curious to see if anyone had another option, such as maybe a tampermonkey script?

Thank you for your help.

You could look into using 3rd party clients to view Lemmy. They often enhance the default behavior with additional features. E.g. Voyager (the one I'm using) has a "keyword filter".
in reply to MaxMalRichtig

Hello,

As mentioned in the title, I would prefer to do this on the default Lemmy UI rather than a third party client

China Holds Massive Military Drills After Taiwan’s President Vows to 'Resist Annexation' w/ KJ Noh

Ukraine lacks soldiers to stop Russia

in reply to tiredturtle

Russia is very much ending it, hence all the panic over Ukrainian army collapse that's unfolding in western media right now.
in reply to ☆ Yσɠƚԋσʂ ☆

Why only now, what's the benefit of keeping it on before
This entry was edited (1 year ago)
in reply to tiredturtle

Because it's a war of attrition and it took a long time for the AFU to reach the point of collapse. Russia didn't do big arrow offensives because those would've been very costly in terms of equipment and manpower as Ukraine found out during its fabled offensive. Instead, Russia chose to use its massive artillery advantage to grind out the AFU instead, and now we're seeing the results of that approach. Here's an analysis from an actual expert if you're interested

in reply to ☆ Yσɠƚԋσʂ ☆

We gotta wonder whose benefit it is to keep on prolonging while the official story is different
in reply to tiredturtle

Given that Russia and Ukraine almost came to an agreement two months into the war and the west sabotaged it, I think there's little question about that.
in reply to ☆ Yσɠƚԋσʂ ☆

It's definitely fishy with sabotaging all around from different directions with all of the negotiation attemps
in reply to tiredturtle

Sabotaging did not come from different directions, it was always coming from 38.8977° N, 77.0365° W, though might be through other places.

The question is whom it's been more costly for, the west or Russia.

Pretending Ukraine was winning was necessary to send them more weapons. They would never get funding for a war of attrition which ends in their loss.

Now the obvious conclusion is unfolding and our media slowly changes tone as if they are surprised Ukraine cannot win.

Though the weapons have been sent with the premise that Ukraine has been losing
in reply to tiredturtle

No, it was always "Ukraine is winning but might lose if we don't help" because obviously if they just said "Ukraine is winning" then the help would be not needed.

in reply to PolandIsAStateOfMind

It was "Ukraine is on the verge of losing each second but a few weapons can keep their head above water until a peace is negotiated"
in reply to tiredturtle

No it wasn't, nobody official in Ukraine or west even talked about negotiating peace, the terms was always basically unconditional surrender of Russia and conquest of Crimea.
in reply to tiredturtle

I mean they didn't officially called Russia to surrender, but after the first talks were sabotaged by Johnson, official stance of Ukraine, supported by their western helpers was (and still is) that Russia should entirely left borders of Ukraine including Donbas and also give them Crimea. The only situation in which this could happen is Russia's surrender (and historically such maximum one sided demands also only happened after surrendering of one side).

How do I unlock the PinePhone Pro? (SailfishOS)

Hello, I'm having trouble unlocking my PinePhone Pro. I went through the introduction / tutorial, set a password, connected to my WiFi, and rebooted. But ever since then, its just been this spinning circle. I tried swiping up, down, left, right, nothing. I mean I can drag down the top menu or switch to my camera, but that's about it.

How do I unlock it?

I would try Postmarket OS with KDE mobile or phosh. Chances are you are going to want a normal phone.

Moldovans back joining the EU by razor-thin majority

Final result sees ‘yes’ vote scrape ahead by 13,000 votes, narrowly avoiding shock setback for pro-western president

Moldovans have voted by a razor-thin majority in favour of joining the EU after a pivotal referendum clouded by allegations of Russian interference.

On Sunday, Moldova held key votes in a presidential election and a referendum on EU membership, marking a critical moment in the continuing struggle between Russia and the west for control over the small, landlocked nation in eastern Europe, home to 2.5 million people.

After all the votes were counted in the referendum that asked voters to choose whether to enshrine in the country’s constitution a path toward the EU, the “yes” vote crept into first place with 50.46% of the nearly 1.5m ballots cast, according to the Central Electoral Commission.

in reply to geneva_convenience

If rather had the margin be bigger. However just like Brexit, the vote is final. Moldova gets the fuck out of Russia. No backsies. Annoying when that happens, eh Vlad?

Brexit was a non-binding proposition, but right wingers didn't actually care what the people wanted.

in reply to geneva_convenience

Big news, and it's good they're polling on important issues where the government position and popular position are clearly in disagreement. But it's weird the reporting would take this angle.

a pivotal referendum clouded by allegations of Russian interference.

I mean it's not that weird, more typical, blatant and dishonest. Especially when they address an allegation, but then ignore the confirmed case of USA interference.

Israel claims Hezbollah bunker under Beirut hospital holds millions of dollars

Israel has accused Hezbollah of keeping hundreds of millions of dollars in cash and gold in a bunker under a hospital in the southern suburbs of Beirut, though it said it would not strike the complex.

The Sahel hospital in Dahiyeh was evacuated shortly afterwards, and Fadi Alame, its director, told Reuters that the allegations were untrue.

Israel did not provide evidence for its claim that cash was being kept under the hospital. Instead, it published an animated graphic that purported to show a bunker under the hospital and said it had previously been used to hide the former secretary general of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah.

The Russian strategy is slowly bleeding Ukraine. There I fixed it for you.

Seems that it's the western strategy that's doing that. Russia offered to negotiate peace several times since the conflict started, and the west rejected that every time.
