Ukraine's deadly decision to refuse to cede territory

in reply to ☆ Yσɠƚԋσʂ ☆

A lot of hard decisions have been made by Ukraine in the past year that I can't support. These decisions heavily affected the initiatives to help Ukrainians where I live, and it's fucking upsetting.

Expanding abortion access strengthens democracy, while abortion bans signal broader repression − worldwide study

...

The evidence is clear: When abortion is legal, democracy thrives. And when reproductive rights are restricted, democracy withers. That same story is unfolding in the U.S. right now, state by state.

Following a successful 2022 abortion ballot initiative, California guaranteed reproductive freedom in its state Constitution. As in Argentina, this move was spearheaded by a strong women’s movement in the state Legislature.

By contrast, Texas has echoed Poland’s path. After shutting down access to abortion, the state restricted its citizens’ right to travel, further curbing civil liberties.

Mobilizing for reproductive rights expands democracy because it gives women voice and control over basic freedoms. The struggle for abortion rights shows society that the personal is indeed political – and that women’s lives matter.

Isn't rawhide the "rolling" version?
If so, it does not really count as 42, just what packages 42 is likely gonna have.
in reply to Strit

@Strit They use the rolling version to develop the stable releases.
in reply to theshatterstone54

@theshatterstone54 I am not, usually. I have Mate, and compiz is one of the compositors available with Mate-tweak and it makes a lot of fun effects like wiggling frames around terminals and translucent backgrounds, BUT, it does not work properly with X2Go which I rely on for a number of functions, so usually I do not enable a compositor (no compositor works with X2Go). I do wish they would fix that.
in reply to John

I'm upgrading ASAP just for ROCM 6.2 because almost nothing seems to work ever since I've updated to 6.1.2 for some reason

New species of tardigrade reveals secrets of radiation-resisting powers

A newly described species of tardigrade is giving scientists insights into what makes these tiny eight-legged creatures so resistant to radiation.

Now, scientists have sequenced the genome of a species new to science, and revealed some of the molecular mechanisms that give tardigrades their extraordinary resilience. Their study, published in Science on 24 October, identifies thousands of tardigrade genes that become more active when exposed to radiation. These processes point to a sophisticated defence system that involves protecting DNA from the damage that radiation causes and repairing any breaks that do occur.

The authors hope that their insights could be harnessed to help protect astronauts from radiation during space missions, clean up nuclear pollution or improve cancer treatment.

Nice, I'm excited to learn more about these DNA defense mechanisms!
