honestly who cares? charge it overnight once per week and you're fine.

focus on the actual problems, like the horrific ergonomics, planned obsolescence, or apple's war on right to repair.

in reply to Cruxus

this is a problem of planned obsolescence since the mouse becomes unusable once the battery runs down

in reply to ☆ Yσɠƚԋσʂ ☆

It's purposeful. It's to force you to buy a new one.

A mouse with a normal charging cable placement can still be used by being plugged in when the battery goes dead.

This mouse, with the charging port on the bottom, becomes unusable once its battery goes dead.

No, it's because Apple hates it's customers and is happy to bilk them.

That said, they do make some very nice things, but participate in so much anti-consumer nonsense (not that that's any different from any other major corporation).

Israeli parliament approves bill to ban UN Palestinian refugee agency

The Israeli parliament has approved a controversial bill to ban the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), considered a lifeline for Gaza, from operating on Israeli territory.

The legislation, which won’t take effect immediately, risks collapsing the already fragile aid distribution process at a moment when the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is worsening, and Israel is under increased pressure to allow in aid supplies.

The vote passed 92-10 and followed a fiery debate between supporters of the law and its opponents, primarily members of Arab parliamentary parties.

That's what was happening before, when they were "allowed".

I made this argument on PCM back in the reddit days and got downvoted to oblivion.

How's Iceland's 4-Day Work Week Working? 'Incredibly Well,' Study Says

in reply to §ɦṛɛɗɗịɛ ßịⱺ𝔩ⱺɠịᵴŧ

I feel like this title is intentionally misleading, probably trying to draw parallels to the defacing of Stonehenge with orange powder.

They put orange high-vis vests on the statues. No damage was caused.

in reply to KoboldCoterie

I feel it, but at the same time, where does the title imply the statues were damaged? It's all about grabbing attention in order to bring focus to the disastrous situation we're in with our environment.
in reply to §ɦṛɛɗɗịɛ ßịⱺ𝔩ⱺɠịᵴŧ

Giving the statues "an orange makeover" implies something a lot more permanent or at least harder to remove than high-vis vests. If someone tells you they "got a makeover", when in reality what they did was change their shirt, would you not think that was a little disingenuous?

I'm not being critical of you, or the protest, to be clear, I just think the title is a poor representation of what happened.

in reply to KoboldCoterie

Guess it all comes down to your definition of makeover. In looking up the definition, it's defined as "a radical change in appearance, it may imply a change in clothing, haircut, or cosmetics". This being the case, I'd say the title's spot on. But it all comes down to how you define makeover regarding if the titles misleading. It's a bit ambiguous, so I see what you're saying.

Wait, Standing Desks Might Be Bad For Your Health?

in reply to ☆ Yσɠƚԋσʂ ☆

Agree with this, especially about movement. Overall the main bad thing about regular desks and comfy chairs, is that you can sit at them without changing your posture for hours, which is bad for everything: blood circulation, posture, muscles, etc. "The best posture is your next one."

I work from the floor now mainly... it's cheap, portable, forces you to move, doesn't require anything besides maybe a few pillows and any coffee table or raised surface for a laptop.

I got a small treadmill with a standing desk, and it works surprisingly well. I get good 3-4 hours walking in every day now.
in reply to ☆ Yσɠƚԋσʂ ☆

TLDR: standing all day long can be worse than sitting, but alternating standing and sitting positions is very good for your health.

Standing desks have never been promoting standing all day imo, the title is pure clickbait. Standing desks are good for your health, just use them correctly.

Start slow! Do 5 crunches if that’s all it takes to few a burn. Catch your breath and do 2-5 more and then rest. Do stoplight runs and only run when you can. Rest/walk as needed.

The point is incremental increases in activity, you’ll get there so don’t rush and give yourself grace.

You can’t hit the ground ready to run a mile if you’re not used to running.

Second Washington Post writer quits over failure to back Kamala Harris

A second high-profile Washington Post columnist has stepped down after the newspaper’s decision not to support Kamala Harris for president, as more readers announced the cancellation of their subscriptions.

Michele Norris, an opinion contributor at the Post and the first Black female host for National Public Radio (NPR), called the non-endorsement a “terrible mistake”.

. . .

“In a moment like this, everyone needs to make their own decisions. The Washington Post’s decision to withhold an endorsement that had been written & approved in an election where core democratic principles are at stake was a terrible mistake & an insult to the paper’s own longstanding standard of regularly endorsing candidates since 1976.”

Norris follows in the footsteps of Robert Kagan, an editor-at-large who left the paper last week after its publisher and CEO, William Lewis, declared it would not endorse a candidate in the 2024 presidential race.

Five years for TikTok video of TCC and confiscation of iPhone — how Odesa resident escaped prison

The English version is subpar (probably machine translation), but the site is the only one I've found that has English version.

Another source in Ukrainian: rbc.ua/rus/news/virok-tiktok-o…

in reply to Bobr

Seems that Zelensky's regime is not happy with amount of videos showing TCC kidnapping people from the streets.

Especially now that even western media started using the word "busification". lemonde.fr/en/international/ar…

So now they will try to jail everyone who dares to document it.

in reply to suoko

It’s not that, it’s that I’d like to know more about this battery technology.

Developing that tech is going to be like developing the first steam engine
