[SOLVED] Internet strangely stops working after one day of installation.

This is an Acer Aspire one laptop, with a 32 bit CPU and Debian 12.7. Whenever I install Linux on it, the Internet works for about one day. And when I boot it up the next day, it just stops working. This is the case for WiFi, Ethernet and USB tethering via Android.

After running networkctl it gave me this:

I can ping 8.8.8.8 in this state, but not gnu.org. I can't open websites in Firefox either.

Then I ran "sudo systemctl start systemd-networkd". The networkctl output changed but everything worked exactly as the above two images. Couldn't open websites still.

Yesterday everything was working perfectly

Edit: Thanks to @nanook@friendica.eskimo.com and @MyNameIsRichard@lemmy.ml I finally have internet access on my 12-year old e-waste!

If worse comes to worse, you can always just remove the symlink of /etc/resolv.conf which presently will point to something in /run/systemd, and replace it with a static file with known good name servers in it. You'll lose having a DNS cache but at least your machine will function.

'Hamas entered UNRWA and took everything,' Gazan staffer says

Gazan staffer says
IDF releases interrogation with UNRWA worker in Gaza describing how terror group operatives took over UNRWA facilities and vehicles and looted aid meant for civilians for their personal use

The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit on Thursday released a video clip from the interrogation of a Gazan staffer of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees UNRWA who described how Hamas used the organization's facilities as their own. "They see UNRWA vehicles as a form of protection,” he said.

The IDF are known torturers and murderers, any testimony from the people they interrogate is essentially worthless as evidence.

I got my loops.video account activated today

So far, there is only some user settings accessible in the web interface. I don't have an iPhone, hence I cannot say for their app. The android app will come later, apparently.

I really wonder if this is just a different frontend for pixelfed that is video-centric, or if it will be something else.

Since it is supposed to be the TikTok of the fediverse, I really wonder if it will, like pixelfed also just feature a chronological timeline? Because what makes TikTok so popular is not the short videos, but the recommendation algorithm that doesn't even require people to follow any accounts.

If it's just another chronological media feed then they could have just modified pixelfed to only allow video upload and would jabe archived the same thing. So far I am really wondering if loops is a new thing, or if it will be just another reskin of mastodon/pixelfed/...

UN General Assembly condemns the US economic embargo of Cuba for a 32nd year

So why don't they just ignore the US and conduct trade with Cuba?
in reply to stink

The threat of secondary sanctions is what's keeping countries from doing that. Also, when SWIFT was the only game in town for international settlements, it made it very difficult to do business with Cuba. Now that situation is rapidly changing and I expect things will be looking up for Cuba going forward.

Those websites will simply register alternate domains.... It's really not a big deal.
in reply to Adam431

Can we follow this up by murdering most of the generic Top Level Domains (gTLD)? I have yet to see anything except spam and malware coming out of the .top domain.

So, who else was proposing to pay for peer-review time? I'd be concerned if there was some sort of pay-for-result that seemed tied to this, but I don't see any evidence of that from this article. Aspersions are cast, but nothing of substance is there to say that the process isn't impartial.
in reply to ikidd

But also companies don't do things for free, so what were they hoping to get out of paying?

Wow, I am afraid that definition is somewhat problematic. The term "fediverse" was in use when #GNUSocial with #OStatus was in wide use, way before Mastodon and other ActivityPub-based platforms

I have seen the term "fedivese" in use even when StatusNet was around. Sure, you can launch a project or a foundation focused on a particular protocol. But users of these platforms coined the term, and history does matter!

CPU overhead

I highly doubt you can conjure up a Wayland compositor that consumes more than 1% of your CPU, even eye-candy nightmares like Hyprland will not have any significant CPU usage.
