Does Israel not see how similarly to Hitler they're acting?

Or is that the point and their express intent is to perpetuate their very own holocaust against people they themselves deem the Untermensch?

I mean, I know the answer, but

in reply to HiddenLayer555

Reminds me of a joke:

Germany will never forgive the Palestinians for the holocaust

in reply to HiddenLayer555

No no Hitler only wanted to kill part of the slavic population to make it easier to enslave the rest as workers, unlike Israel who are killing everybody

black hole feeds at 40 times the theoretical limit

With the advent of the Webb Space Telescope, the problem has pushed up against theoretical limits. The matter falling into a black hole generates radiation, with faster feeding meaning more radiation. And that radiation can drive off nearby matter, choking off the black hole's food supply. That sets a limit on how fast black holes can grow unless matter is somehow fed directly into them. The Webb was used to identify early supermassive black holes that needed to have been pushing against the limit for their entire existence.

This is a seriously cool article. An accretion disk tens of thousands of light-years across is fucking wild. That's getting awfully close to our own SMBH at our galactic core, sag A* if LID was placed between us and our SMBH.

A fucking plasma of superheated matter from a black hole could be crisping our black hole and Earth simultaneously. Jesus.

So did they name him after that muckbang asshole guy who lost all that weight and was a creepy psycho about it? And probably lying about it being "all part of the plan" lol

Because neither party is even pretending to give a fuck about Americans at this point.

The PFLP is calling for Americans to boycott both Democrats and Republicans tomorrow as moral stance for the Palestinian people

These aren't prisoners. They're Asylum Seekers | Thousands of detainees have been jammed into jails Biden vowed to close.

That's because there's not enough space to house them all, and congress won't do anything to fix the situation.

Biden closing the border wasn't about giving the middle finger to asylum seekers, it was because everything was already seriously overcrowded.

in reply to pearsaltchocolatebar

This is inherently political, but I think the overall intention of the article is to highlight one of the larger media pushes against Trump, and one of Biden's campaign promises, and the hypocrisy therein of his escalation of this.
in reply to pearsaltchocolatebar

Or you could just not lock them up, allow them a temporary stay until their case is heard, etc. It's a lot cheaper to do it this way too.

In fact, you could allow people to make their asylum claim in the country of origin or a third country so they don't have to make this dangerous trip to the border while funding organised crime on the way.

a temporary stay where? and who's going to foot the bill for that?
in reply to refalo

Allow them to work and they can fund their stay anywhere. Anyway, like like all that's moot now, Trump is going to be going with the government accommodation model.

I don't think giving working rights to non-approved asylum seekers would go over any better than what orange man does... but w/e

Narendra Modi condemns attack on Hindu temple in Canada as tensions rise

Videos on social media showed demonstrators protesting outside the Hindu Sabha Mandir temple in the city of Brampton, where Indian diplomats were visiting ahead of Diwali celebrations. Some protesters held yellow Khalistan flags, representing a region of India they hope to one day carve out as a Sikh homeland.

As tensions rose, isolated fights broke out. Canada’s Peel regional police said on Monday that three people had been “arrested and criminally charged” following the attack and they were investigating “several acts of unlawfulness”.

The group Sikhs for Justice alleged in a statement the protest “turned violent” when a group of “Indo-Canadian nationalists, incited by Indian consulate officials” attacked the Sikh demonstrators. The group says some attenders retreated into the temple and began throwing rocks and wielding iron rods.

A conceptual model of ATProto and ActivityPub

in reply to fediverse_report

So Nostr actually compares favorably to both since I don't even know which servers send out by messages to everyone. Also, every single one is IP banned in China already

More than funding: Sovereign Tech Fund to become an agency

reshared this

State owned means the state wants to control open source, can't see how this can possibly be a good thing, you know it will mean funding with conditions.

Well, the things they are funding will get funded? How is that a bad thing?!

The conditions range from very broad, like "fix bugs" (curl), over somewhat specific like "improve cross-platform compatibility and the Linux RNG" (Wireguard), to very specific like "create a test-suite and drive development on the Fediverse account migration functionality" (ActivityPub).

You can see more for yourself at sovereign.tech/tech

All of these seem to be rather tame conditions that are just there to ensure the funds get used in the way they were intended to be used. And I don't really see how that gives the STF any sort of direct control over these projects, while it gives those projects resources to achieve more than they might have otherwise. There are no long-term funding models that would enable implicit control over these projects.

Biktor and Lynxis will be working on OpenIMSd, which aims to bring VoLTE (4G voice calls) to Qualcomm based phones (like the PinePhone)

This is fantastic news, and I wish them all the best. Reliable VoLTE/WoWiFi calls was my main (but obviously major) issue with the PinePhone.

Agenda Prep for November 2024 WG Meeting

Agenda preparation for the November ForumWG meeting can be found at this public link (anyone can make comments for review.)

Monthly meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month, at 1700 to 1800 UTC. You can find them listed in the SocialCG Calendar. The next meeting will be held on 7 November 2024.

We will be continuing onwards with:

  • discussions regarding context resolution. Multiple FEPs touch on the subject and there is an opportunity for potential convergence towards a single (or pair) of FEPs that share enough commonalities to allow for interoperability.
  • updates by WG members re: non-as:Note support in Mastodon and the Social CG report draft
  • whether a resolvable context collection containing plain objects should also contain activities (like an outbox)

As always — time permitting — if you'd like to speak or inquire about a certain topic, comment in the agenda or reply here, the floor is open!

It's kind of weird, Canada is the same way. We export energy in the west, but we import in the east. There's no infrastructure to ship energy across the country.

Mentions United: Lemmy plugin & a few updates

After I recently dived into the Lemmy world and found out which API route I needed for a Lemmy integration as a Mentions United Provider Plugin, the rest was no longer particularly difficult, because the data is very heavy due to many redundancies, but easy to process. So my new plugin is ready and running on this blog to display Lemmy interactions …

in reply to Kristof Zerbe

I can see that. Neat. So if i where to crosspost this to another community and comment on it in that community would it also show up?
in reply to 🇦🇺𝕄𝕦𝕟𝕥𝕖𝕕𝕔𝕣𝕠𝕔𝕠𝕕𝕚𝕝𝕖

No, not directly, because it depends on the syndications stored in the Frontmatter of my post. But since I have also included Webmentions and Lemmy sends one when crossposting, at least this would be displayed under the post.
