in reply to schizoidman

But I was assured by the ncd guys that Russia would choke on Kursk and balkanize any day now that Biden let Ukraine strike inside Russia!
in reply to finderscult

And I was assured that the Russian economy was doing great due to the increasing GDP and the sanctions weren't affecting things.

Perhaps reality lies somewhere between what the blowhards and propagandists are saying. And perhaps all of us who oppose the concept of nations attacking other nations, militarily or otherwise, should recognize the threat Russia poses and support Ukraine with more than merely half hearted weapons transfers.

in reply to chloroken

This is exactly as much whataboutism as the comment I replied to...if you ignore my second sentence.

How was the comment you replied to whataboutism? Please, elaborate. I want to understand how you think.
in reply to chloroken

Upon consideration, it wasn't so much whataboutism as it was hyperbole. Which was the entire point of my original comment.

Try harder. Please find one comment from me where I'm not critical of Israel's response to the Gaza situation.
in reply to finderscult

Yeah every Western analyst has been saying: You're stupid and propagandized to think that the meat grinder war can be won by the country with the most meat.
in reply to schizoidman

That's because Russia took fuck all in 2023 when they were stuck at Avdiivka for months and months, way longer than expected by all sides. Once it fell, there were fewer natural choke points for Ukraine until Pokrovsk, and defense lines were not well prepared enough. So comparing taking a lot of fields to sending troops to capture a static point for a year is not really apples to apples imo.

Kursk is and always was a gambit. My view is that losses and disorganization on the frontline from Ukrainian's part on the Donetsk side, is independent from the results of the Kursk incursion, not because of it. As such, whether it was a overall good idea or not in hindsight, it appears that the primary objective of the incursion was met, as every troop, NK or Russian, stationed to recapture Kursk is one fewer re-inforcing the offensive in other areas.

in reply to Rentlar

The primary objective of the Kursk gambit had to have been to fundamentally alter the course of the war -- either by drawing NATO countries more directly in, or by tanking Russian public opinion, or by credibly threatening Moscow. It failed; it's a bump in the road, not a course change.

And what evidence do you have that North Korean troops are in Ukraine? Keep in mind the U.S. has spy satellites that can read a license plate, so I'm looking for something solid, not merely a comment from a Ukranian official.

in reply to Rentlar

I’m not sure that’s right.

Nobody knows alternate timelines of course, but I wonder if NK troops would have been at all engaged were it not for Kursk - and NK engagement is very favourable for both sides of the agreement, and really bad news for the rest of us.

Also I don’t know how many of the Russian Kursk troops are conscripts, but those would not have been in Donetsk anyway.

in reply to Draghetta

and NK engagement is very favourable for both sides of the agreement,

Then NK troops was always going to happen. It's not a penalty for Kursk invasion, but a security partnership that should have been predicted.

in reply to Draghetta

I wonder if NK troops would have been at all engaged were it not for Kursk

It's a valid thought. I'd think Russia would find whatever excuse was convenient, even if it weren't for an incursion, something like "Western allies are supporting Ukraine", or whatever. At the end of the day, NK needs food and Russia needs warm bodies so that calculus on the deal doesn't change.

I always feel like the actual rack is the cheapest part. Trying for ages to find a simple 2u case for a micro ATX MB with Pico PSU, but don't find any that isn't more pricey than the whole setup Oo. Is there some trick to find them used that I don't know? I expected there would be plenty.

Try second hand perhaps? Ebay or Facebook or something similar.

Saudi Arabia fights to derail pledge to transition away from fossil fuels at Cop29

in reply to NightOwl

Out of the 52% who favor negotiations, 52% said Ukraine should be open to territorial concessions

So the number of Ukrainians who favor realistic negotiations is about 26%.

in reply to MarxMadness

There is almost no reason for them to fight.
Surprised it took this long.

Either side are capitalist oligarchs.

Russia gives them citizenship and the EU will still recognize old Ukrainian citizenship. it's like a win win. Whats the benefit to keep fighting, just strange.

If I would get conscripted - if just walk away if those are my choices or just surrender.

Honestly the "old web" was also a hellscape for accessibility.

There's been a lot more advances for accessibility in the last 5 years because of ADA lawsuits being successful against large companies with websites, so it's seen as a liability.

In my personal experience in general this has been a big impetus for companies to start take WCAG seriously. However in practice a lot of this is box checking because it's expensive and complicated.

A lot of our newer contracts have had explicit terms for various levels of accessibility, but this has lead to a problem in the sense that accessibility is something that is designed, and in practice the company has a very hard time changing it's SDLC in most teams. So in effect the expectation from higher ups is that it's a magic wand, these kinds of top down initiatives fail because they're often just having people internally rewrite a11y tutorials or act as consultants to projects they know don't have the resources to actually become accessible.

The IDF is allowing Gaza gangs to loot aid trucks and extort protection fees from drivers

The Israel Defense Forces is allowing armed Palestinians to loot aid convoys entering Gaza and to extort protection money from them, say sources in international aid organizations working in the enclave.

Sources working in Gaza say the armed attacks take place just a few hundred meters away from Israeli troops. Some aid groups say attacked truck drivers have even sought help from the IDF, but the army has refused to intervene. Moreover, they say, the army bars them from taking alternate roads that are considered safer.

Defense officials confirmed that the IDF is aware of the problem. They said that at one point, the government had even considered making the clans to which the armed men belong responsible for distributing aid to Gaza's residents, even though some of the clans' members are involved in terrorism, and some are even affiliated with extremist organizations like the Islamic State.

this feels like the same thing that the japanese had to do to get access to the american market in the 70's; but it feels like a trap somehow this time around.

China already said they wouldn't do this, Europe is just not that important of a market for them at this point. This was a really good perspective on it youtu.be/RQ3YjZAzqxA

in reply to daydrinkingchickadee

As a dutchie I say both is true.

Yes, the Israeli mob brought it over themselves by chanting, insulting and attacking several people including a Dutch taxi driver of arab descent.

Fuck around, find out was a very appropriate way to describe what happened next.

Did it go too far? Was it even pathetic, wrong singling some strays out and attacking them with 5 or even more?

I know, fighting isn't about being fair, it's about winning but this was just stupid.

And that's true also. It went too far. They where literally being hunted.

Also, this "editorial" is very biased. There is more then enough footage of israelis being molested by a group. This article says there's no proof or whatever but there is. Like... A lot.

in reply to Redredme

The fuck?

They pulled a cab driver out his car and beat him for being Arab.

All of these "hooligans" were 'israeli' citizens. They are not innocent. All 'israeli' citizens have mandatory conscription.

It's okay for them to kill babies, shout slurs, call for genocide, damage property, beat a man, light fireworks during a moment of silence.

But for some reason a nazi getting his shit kicked in is where it went too far?

Optics is all that matters to you liberals

I hate that we have to live in this world where something as vital as archiving the internet is a volunteer-based operation that requires permission from copyright holders. In a better world, the Internet Archive would be an international enterprise funded by mandatory contributions from UN members, and IA would have open license to archive everything. Maybe they wouldn't allow regular users to access archived items that have active copyright, unless the items become inaccessible.
in reply to coyotino [he/him]

Good grief that sounds horrible. I don't want the government to be in charge of what gets preserved and what doesn't.

DOD 'Scrambling,' Wiping Evidence of DEI as Trump Readies to Cut Woke Generals

in reply to just_another_person

Multicellular animal organisms all start their lives the same way. Two zygotes merge and fuse

I hate to nitpick but asexual reproduction does not require two zygotes.

Asexual reproduction is a type of reproduction that does not involve the fusion of gametes or change in the number of chromosomes.
in reply to Cypher

Those are examples of far-fetched, never observed things that do not happen with any frequency that can be measured. It's so rare, in fact, that a genetic trait would be able to be discerned because there would never be a divergent genetic material.

I don't think that's what the article is suggesting.

in reply to just_another_person

Asexual reproduction has been observed, measured, studied and is fairly well understood.

The specific claim that all multicellular life starts with two zygotes merging is incorrect. While not the main thrust of the article it is wrong.

Your additional claims are simply absurd and you could spend some minimal effort to understand asexual reproduction before making ignorant claims.

Here I will give you a place to start: scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=…

in reply to Cypher

Read your own link. These are all observed after the fact, and the catalyst is not understood. The frequency is also not tied to avian or warmbloods which is even more rare than a mechanism that exists in certain life forms already.

What are you talking about?

in reply to just_another_person

What are you talking about?

It is known as a fact that asexual reproduction does occur and does not involve the merging of two zygotes.

Everything else you have spouted is purely irrelevant and is deflection.

It is clear you have too much ego to properly participate in science.

in reply to Cypher

Lol.

This is Lemmy. Better get off that horse before you hurt yourself.
