If I'm depressed, A Charlie Brown Christmas. If not, the 1966 special How the Grinch Stole Christmas!. Mr. Robot S04 is a favorite as well.

I haven't seen many classic Christmas films though so I plan on broadening my horizons. My mom plans on showing my Diehard this year, I plan on watching FX/BBC's rendition of A Christmas Carol, and I likely will see the 2000 Grinch movie with a friend.

Selfhost alternative to sharedrop.io?

I make use of sharedrop.io to quickly share files between phones and computers on my LAN. Does anyone know of a self-hosted alternative, preferably containerised with Docker?

French PM forces budget bill through parliament, triggering no-confidence vote

in reply to Krauerking

Clearly not, but what's your point? Biden is president. Not saying it's right. But I think it's what any parent would do. Hunter isn't some moral monster. He's just messed up more than anything, in the way a kid in his situation might.

Not justifying it, but executive power is insane. Trump will break the law far more destructively with respect to Hunter then this pardon, or at least that's the fear I imagine Biden has.

in reply to Auli

He can’t blanket pardon people.

Where did you get that idea? It's been done before. In 1977 for example, President Carter, issued a blanket pardon to everyone who dodged the draft during the Vietnam war.

There are, in fact, very few limitations on the power of the pardon.

First ergonomic keyboard

Just got my first ergonomic keyboard! Coming from a Keychron K2 and now using a Kineses Advantage 360 Pro, which I picked up refurbished for a nice discount.

I’ve been using it exclusively to type for a week, and today I used my M2 MacBook Pro keyboard for the first time in a week.

To the person that decided computer keyboards should be staggered instead of ortholinear, I hate you.

I know there is history to the keyboards being adapted from typewriters, but I realized I’ve been hitting the entire bottom row of keys with the wrong finger. For example, I’ve been hitting Z with my ring finger instead of my little finger.

I could give up the thumb clusters, but I really wish Apple would give you an ortholinear keyboard option in their laptops.

I also keep hitting the wrong key on the Kineses because all the keys are so much closer now than I’m used to. It takes so much less movement and I love it!

Going full ergo is great, and I also think it's sad that we're stuck with legacy keyboards. Though I don't like typing on ortho unless it's also split (and preferably a little tented), the columns don't line up with my fingers unless I keep my forearms close together. Staggered keyboards at least have diagonal-ish finger movements, even though the angle is different for left and right hands.
in reply to ffhein

Interesting. The only type of ortho keyboard I’ve used is a tented split ortho keyboard. Didn’t consider that I might not prefer ortho without the other features

Thanks for sharing, enjoy the Advantage, it's still on my radar!

France's Barnier makes last-minute concession to far right in bid to avoid being toppled

PARIS (Reuters) - French Prime Minister Michel Barnier on Monday made another major concession to Marine Le Pen's far-right National Rally party, dropping planned cuts to medication reimbursements in a last-minute bid to get his 2025 budget bill over the line.

It was not immediately clear if that would be enough to save his fragile coalition from being toppled this week, with an RN spokesman telling Reuters there were other key demands ahead of a crunch parliamentary vote at 3:00 p.m. (1400 GMT).

It is at least the third time Barnier has given in to RN demands after he scrapped an electricity price hike worth some 3 billion euros last week and agreed to reduce free medical help to illegal migrants.

Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger steps down from struggling chipmaker

Dec 2 (Reuters) - Intel (INTC.O) Chief Executive Pat Gelsinger has stepped down less than four years after taking the helm of the company, handing control to two lieutenants as the faltering American chipmaking icon searches for a permanent replacement.
Gelsinger, who resigned on Dec. 1, left the company before the completion of an ambitious and costly four-year plan to restore the company's lead in making the fastest and smallest computer chips, a crown it lost to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (2330.TW) which makes chips for Intel rivals such as Nvidia (NVDA.O)
While Gelsinger has assured both investors and U.S. officials, who are subsidizing Intel's turnaround, that his manufacturing plans remain on track, the full results will not be known until next year, when the company aims to bring a flagship laptop chip back into its own factories.

Intel should have pulled it's 13/14 Gen chips the moment it became clear they had serious problems. Admit you screwed up and fix it.

Continuing to sell something you know is crap is a long-term reputation hit you are NOT going to recover from.

in reply to NutWrench

This is not due to the 13/14th generation CPU recall, rather Intel as a whole is floundering.

They missed the entire AI gravy train, losing market share to AMD, lost Apples business, etcetera. Intels foundry requires a lot of capital for both RnD and to keep the fabs running. They are losing market share and they have higher cost business compared to their competitors.

Petition: Ban fossil fuel advertising and sponsorship

The Our Planet Our Future Book Club read and discussed Badvertising: Polluting Our Minds and Fuelling Climate Chaos, which points out that advertising often urges us to do things contrary to our best interest, for example high-carbon activities like flying, or buying SUVs, and argues that such advertising should be banned. There's a petition on the subject here.
