But if they want to train AI, can't they already scrape Fediverse since it's open to everyone?
in reply to Shatur

The hilarious thing is that if they did that the resulting LLM chatbot would shit on AI and large corporations constantly.

What the hell: Forbes advertising UN Human Relief Agency are terrorists

Just saw this advertisement on a Forbes article.

Someone is paying to equate UN Relief and Works Agency workers as HAMAS terrorists. I guess that explains why Israel is so comfortable bombing aide workers.

I’m surprised the Israel lobby (if that’s who sponsored this) thinks it’s worthwhile to sink this low… and that Forbes is allowing it on their news website

What a world…

Yeah why not let the UNHCR handle it? Why does there have to be a special, specific UN body handling Gaza rather than the usual refugee support body?

I think this approach is a step towards building genuine AI that encodes a world model that's used as a basis for actions and decision making. This is qualitatively different from just having a glorified Markov chain that spits out text tokens.

If Christmas can escape outside of December, Halloween gets to haunt us year round as well.

Fuck, I forgot this year. Life comes at you fast and you just gotta keep taking the blows day by day.

If Christmas can escape outside of December, Halloween gets to haunt us year round as well.

It kinda used to, but it lost the fight against christmas since the second one is less doomeric.

Disney's Snow White | Official Trailer

Well, those dwarves are certainly...something!
Unknown parent

in reply to UKFilmNerd

Honestly, this trailer isn't all that bad. Clunky editing in the beginning and the existence of CGI elves is just a reminder of the jobs stolen from real people with dwarfism but all in all it's not bad. Love the structuring of not even bringing up the poisoned apple until the very end.

All of that said I don't care about the movie and won't be seeing it at all. Just a bit annoyed by people raging over this trailer when it's really not all that bad.

Biden pardons Hunter Biden

It's corruption. What more is there to say?
in reply to BigMacHole

Your TDS is so severe that you can't even acknowledge that Biden is a slimy politician.

Expecting anything except defense of Team Blue from most Lemmy users is a lost cause.

Not even CNN or MSNBC were willing to embarrass themselves enough to defend this, but that won't stop people here from trying.

TL;DR: Bluesky isn’t feasibly federated due to hardware demands of self-hosting the relay—which would require every instance to host the same, synced copy of the entirety of Twitter everywhere—among other things, but is great at providing what its committed corporation calls a centralized “credible exit“: “if Bluesky Social PBC goes out of business or loses users’ trust, other providers can step in to provide an equivalent service using the same dataset and the same protocols”
in reply to Aatube

That seems less than ideal. And yet, here we are with it being way more popular than Mastodon.

Were people really that damn confused over "which instance do I join"?

in reply to P03 Locke

Could be as simple as blue sky having the money behind it to advertise it more
in reply to smeg

Yeah I could see this being a big factor. Advertising money can also mean directly paying people to use it, and hoping some of their followers might come along.
in reply to P03 Locke

People don’t care about decentralization as long as they have a credible exit; in fact, many may prefer the features of centralization. Bluesky also has an algorithm.
in reply to P03 Locke

I think people dislike the experience.

For example, on Mastodon your profile discoverability is disabled in settings by default. I guess it's needed to optimize the hosting cost, but people also like being heard. Also people don't know who to follow since there are no algorithms or starter packs right now. And if you have a post from another instance, you need a browser extension to open it on yours. That's the complains I saw.

As a Mastodon user, I hope we solve them!
