Amnesty International concludes Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza

in reply to streetfestival

“Here in Deir al-Balah, it’s like an apocalypse. There is no room for you to pitch a tent; you have to set it up near the coast… You have to protect your children from insects, from the heat, and there is no clean water, no toilets, all while the bombing never stops. You feel like you are subhuman here.”

  • Mohammed, a 42-year-old father of three, speaking in June 2024 about his experience of displacement from Rafah to Deir al-Balah governorate

Israel/Occupied Palestinian Territory: ‘You Feel Like You Are Subhuman’: Israel’s Genocide Against Palestinians in Gaza

in reply to Keeponstalin

Shit is so fucked. I got plenty of extra room. I wish I could teleport his family here.
in reply to streetfestival

Here is the report. If I had to recommend a chapter it would probably be page 107

6.1.1 direct attacks on civilians or indiscriminate attacks

It has 15 investigations from Amesty International. Primarily large scale Israeli against Palestinian civilians where, Amnesty confirms there were no military targets nearby

But if they want to train AI, can't they already scrape Fediverse since it's open to everyone?
in reply to Shatur

The hilarious thing is that if they did that the resulting LLM chatbot would shit on AI and large corporations constantly.

What the hell: Forbes advertising UN Human Relief Agency are terrorists

Just saw this advertisement on a Forbes article.

Someone is paying to equate UN Relief and Works Agency workers as HAMAS terrorists. I guess that explains why Israel is so comfortable bombing aide workers.

I’m surprised the Israel lobby (if that’s who sponsored this) thinks it’s worthwhile to sink this low… and that Forbes is allowing it on their news website

What a world…

Yeah why not let the UNHCR handle it? Why does there have to be a special, specific UN body handling Gaza rather than the usual refugee support body?

Using WINE for non-Game Programs

I have a Surface Go tablet that I switched over to Linux a while back, and just came across a problem that I don't know how to approach. I use an iDataLink Maestro module in my car to make an aftermarket stereo do what I want it to do. I want to check for a firmware update on it, but the management software tool is windows or mac only.

So I installed WINE and the PlayonLinux front end. I successfully installed the tool (Weblink) but the keyboard doesn't work so I can't log into it. The trackpad works though, and this is a directly connected keyboard/trackpad, so for one to work but not the other seems weird. I can find threads about non-functional keyboards with some games, but I honestly don't understand the guidance being dished out.

How can I troubleshoot and fix this keyboard issue?

in reply to Kraven_the_Hunter

My experience (which is admittedly many years out-of-date) is that WINE isn't very good at anything except games, because games are what the people who use it and work on it are most interested in. When other software works, it tends to be as much by coincidence as anything.
in reply to nyan

I wish that we could get KNX ETS6 in WINE. But it has a USB component though many or most people use IP configuration instead.

I think this approach is a step towards building genuine AI that encodes a world model that's used as a basis for actions and decision making. This is qualitatively different from just having a glorified Markov chain that spits out text tokens.

If Christmas can escape outside of December, Halloween gets to haunt us year round as well.

Fuck, I forgot this year. Life comes at you fast and you just gotta keep taking the blows day by day.

If Christmas can escape outside of December, Halloween gets to haunt us year round as well.

It kinda used to, but it lost the fight against christmas since the second one is less doomeric.

Disney's Snow White | Official Trailer

Well, those dwarves are certainly...something!
in reply to UKFilmNerd

I'm not looking forward to hearing how Snow White isn't "white enough" from shitheads.

realcaseyrollins doesn't like this.

in reply to inb4_FoundTheVegan

These types of live-action remakes have been failing so I wonder if Disney does race-swapping like this just to grab attention they wouldn't otherwise get.

They can't do that for Mufasa, unfortunately.

in reply to inb4_FoundTheVegan

I mean, even all the way back in Grimm, she's described with "skin as white as snow, lips as red as blood and hair as black as ebony". Like I get what you're saying, but having very, very white skin is literally(literally literally) a central detail of the character. Hence the name.

I feel like maybe the answer isn't to keep remaking European fairy tales. Maybe the focus should be on, I dunno, folk tales from anywhere else? Or, God forbid, an original story?

Counterpoint: it doesn't matter as long as the movie is good. Literally who cares, take whatever parts of whatever old story, name whoever whatever, if the movie is good then great, if it isn't, it wouldn't be because it's not a faithful adaptation of half-remembered hudnreds years old story that was in turn half-remembered adaptation of a folk horror
in reply to Nalivai

While you're not wrong here, the race-swapping is still weird.
in reply to UKFilmNerd

Honestly, this trailer isn't all that bad. Clunky editing in the beginning and the existence of CGI elves is just a reminder of the jobs stolen from real people with dwarfism but all in all it's not bad. Love the structuring of not even bringing up the poisoned apple until the very end.

All of that said I don't care about the movie and won't be seeing it at all. Just a bit annoyed by people raging over this trailer when it's really not all that bad.

Biden pardons Hunter Biden

It's corruption. What more is there to say?
in reply to BigMacHole

Your TDS is so severe that you can't even acknowledge that Biden is a slimy politician.
in reply to jimbolauski

Expecting anything except defense of Team Blue from most Lemmy users is a lost cause.

Not even CNN or MSNBC were willing to embarrass themselves enough to defend this, but that won't stop people here from trying.
