Here, have some context. You guys cant stand the fact, that someone might be anti-imperialist; anti-US but also anti-Russian imperialism? Is it that hard to comprehend?
1: You literally don't know what imperialism is
2: You posted this three hours ago, and haven't stopped posting since:
When are you going for that walk?
if you are from part of the imperialist bloc of the west, yes you to contribute directly and indirectly to the western project of colonization.
If not, it's sad to see you've let western imperialist narratives colonize your mind
The only part of Russia Poland neighbors is a military base enclave. And your "everyone" is your sect that will attack any division from your firmly held beliefs particularly one asking for evidence as showcased here over and over.
Oh and the alignment meant was mostly in authoritarian control over media, judiciary, level of corruption, blocking any public hearings of new laws, supercharging the parliamentary process to stifle opposition or any discussion of new law, unprecedented (since the old regime collapse) usage of surveillance against opposition, usage of far right paramilitary groups against mass feminist protests and so on. You know policies more popular in Moscow than anywhere else.
Might be the reason why Kremlin supports far-right parties all over Europe and in US, and you people are willful enablers of that.
ok everyone in all wars ever are equally guilty of war crimes. Nazis? Exactly the same as Native Americans defending their homeland. It's all the same. War crimes are war crimes.
This is the brainrot of the liberal mind. The mechanism of "punishment" is more war, from the warmonger imperialists. You cannot 'punish' russia without cheering on western imperialist war. It's zero sum.
Found them!
Oh no, sorry, that's Russias work few kilometers north. So what about any evidence? You guys are just a cult aren't you? You don't even have anything to use as a proof other than a lie you've heard so many times you believed it?
then stop funding nazis and giving them weaponry, and oppose your government joining in on the western fascists' war against Russia. Do everything you can to push for peace and stopping weapon shipments.
The more entangled your nation gets in Ukraine, the more likely war will spread to you - and you will have nobody to blame but yourselves for allying with nazis and American imperialists.

Cheers, learned a new word. Love the western well educated leftists come to explain the world to us stupid Slavs. Thanks!
Or you missed clear evidence, admissions and so on of Russia sponsoring Le Pen, AFD, Austrian or US fascists? Like, this stuff is public, there's a ton of sources. Proving the case for their infiltration of the PiS party would be harder, since it's investigative jurno books in Polish mostly.
sanctions
Sanctions are an instrument of war, they kill millions. They are one of the primary tools of western imperialists. If you support western imperialist sanctions, you support their warmongering machine.
Isolation
How's that going for you lmao? West has only isolated themselves by revealing to the world their nazi loving, ISIS funding genocidal freakish natures. Applauding Nazis in their parliaments, cheering on Al Qaeda taking over Syria with Ukrainian support. You are just letting it all out and the world is seeing it.
Crippling economy
This is just another part of sanctions, see paragraph 1.
All of this is war or lead up and escalation to war. You want to "de-escalate by escalating" to "punish" the "bad countries" because you have a paternalistic, imperialistic mindset where you believe western nations hold the right to punish others.
It's hilarious how everyone of you NATOID leftists pretend to be above it all and "both sides are bad" but when we press you enough, you spout Kissinger-esque neocon dogma like you've been trained.
Just after Kremlin stops funding nazis in my country, and most of Europe. Russia can stop the war anytime, it just needs to go back to it's borders, how hard can that be? Cuz if it's meant to stop a possible war with NATO that's clearly not going according to plan and at they are still mostly fighting NATO tech from the 80's operated by silly Ukrainians who had a few months of NATO training?
The more entangled your nation gets in Ukraine, the more likely war will spread to you
See, this type of russian propaganda fear-mongering doesent work on Polish people, because one - we have lived under Russian occupation or threat of invasion for the last 200 years, and two - we know that unless it stops in Ukraine the war will come to us soon after. Oh and three; dying heroically is the basis of national ethos here, if you took a few minutes to skim the history of the region about every generation Poles would have a suicidal uprising against the occupiers, well knowing it will fail.
Also in about a year Poland itself, without the rest of NATO, will have more main battle tanks and rocket artillery than Russia. There was a time when we were afraid as a society, but Ukraine clearly showed we can challenge Russian imperialism and increasingly likely - win.

But also, pleas do provide your definition of imperialism!
Trade unionists who support Nationalism and Imperialism are class traitors
Yeah, I'd agree with that, absolutely. See, that's the fun part here; you're mostly arguing with a straw-man in your head, and not with someone who committed his life to class struggle but holds slightly different beliefs/optics than you do.
But also - so yeah, you're not even in a union, miserable keyboard warrior :D

The Wikipedia article is a summary of many cited sources. There's academic ones like The Journal of Genocidal Research. There's a UN report from the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights. There's news reports from Reuters and the BBC. There's a report from the International Court. Though I'm sure you checked the sources before dismissing the article out of hand.
No one is saying that there was zero conflict in Donbas leading up to the invasion. But to label it as "ethnic cleansing" without even acknowledging that this claim is widely disputed internationally is at best irresponsible and at worst deceptive
The International Court of Justice does not just represent the West, it represents all UN countries. And while it did find evidence of human rights abuse it did not find evidence of genocide, because that is a high bar.
Furthermore, the International Association of Genocide Scholars, representing 300 genocide experts, condemned Russia's use of the term to justify its own violence, as cited here: tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…

Yes, they absolutely are. The whole conspiracy theory started with a claim of millions of Uyghurs being supposedly imprisoned story is based on two highly dubious “studies.”.
However, this claim is completely absurd when you stop and think about it even for a minute. That figure 1 million is repeated again and again. Let's just look at how much space would you actually need to intern one million people.
This is a photo of Rikers Island, New York City's biggest prison. The actual size of a facility interning ten thousand people.
According to Wikipedia, "The average daily inmate population on the island is about 10,000, although it can hold a maximum of 15,000." Let's assume this is a Xinjiang detention camp, holding ten to fifteen thousand people. How many of these would it take to hold one million people?
Let's do some math:
| Rikers Size | Rikers Prisoners | One Million Uyghurs Size |
|---|---|---|
| 413.2 acres (0.645 square miles) | 10,000 to 15,000 | 43 to 64 square miles |
In reality, one million people would probably take more space; all the supposed detention camps we see are much less dense than Rikers.
For comparison, San Francisco is 47 square miles. Amsterdam is 64 square miles. You'd literally need detention camps that total the size of San Francisco or Amsterdam to intern one million Uyghurs. It'd be like looking at a map of California. There's Los Angeles. There's San Diego. And look, there's San Francisco Concentration City with its one million Uyghurs.
Literally visible to the naked eye from space.
CHRD states that it interviewed dozens of ethnic Uyghurs in the course of its study, but their enormous estimate was ultimately based on interviews with exactly eight Uyghur individuals. Based on this absurdly small sample of research subjects in an area whose total population is 20 million, CHRD “extrapolated estimates” that “at least 10% of villagers […] are being detained in re-education detention camps, and 20% are being forced to attend day/evening re-education camps in the villages or townships, totaling 30% in both types of camps.” Furthermore, it doesn't even make sense from logistics perspective.
Practically all the stories we see about China trace back to Adrian Zenz is a far right fundamentalist nutcase and not a reliable source for any sort of information. The fact that he's the primary source for practically every article in western media demonstrates precisely what I'm talking about when I say that coverage is divorced from reality.
Zenz is a born-again Christian who lectures at the European School of Culture and Theology. This anodyne-sounding campus is actually the German base of Columbia International University, a US-based evangelical Christian seminary which considers the “Bible to be the ultimate foundation and the final truth in every aspect of our lives,” and whose mission is to “educate people from a biblical worldview to impact the nations with the message of Christ.”
Zenz’s work on China is inspired by this biblical worldview, as he recently explained in an interview with the Wall Street Journal. “I feel very clearly led by God to do this,” he said. “I can put it that way. I’m not afraid to say that. With Xinjiang, things really changed. It became like a mission, or a ministry.”.
Along with his “mission” against China, heavenly guidance has apparently prompted Zenz to denounce homosexuality, gender equality, and the banning of physical punishment against children as threats to Christianity.
Zenz outlined these views in a book he co-authored in 2012, titled Worthy to Escape: Why All Believers Will Not Be Raptured Before the Tribulation. In the tome, Zenz discussed the return of Jesus Christ, the coming wrath of God, and the rise of the Antichrist.
The fact that this nutcase is being paraded as a credible researcher on the subject is absolutely surreal, and it's clear that the methodology of his "research" doesn't pass any kind of muster when examined closely.
It's also worth noting that there is a political angle around the narrative around Xinjiang. For example, George Bush's chief of staff openly saying that US wants to destabilize the region, and NED recently admitting to funding Uyghur separatism for the past 16 years on their own official Twitter page. An ex-CIA operative details US operations radicalizing and training terrorists in the region in this book. Here's an excerpt:
US has been stoking terrorism in the region while they've been running a propaganda campaign against China in the west. In fact, US even classified Uyghur separatists as a terrorist group at one point mintpressnews.com/us-was-at-wa…
Here's an interview with a son of imam killed in Xinjiang news.cgtn.com/news/2020-06-19/…
Here's an account from a Pakistani journalist who has been all over Xinjiang (which borders Pakistan) claims that western media reports on "atrocities" are lies. dailytimes.com.pk/723317/expos…
It's also worth noting that the accusations originate entirely from the west while Muslim majority countries support China, and their leaders have visited Xinjiang many times.
Also notable that whenever western media actually deigns to visit Xinjiang, which is not often, they're unable to produce support for any of their claims of mass imprisonment and oppression, so they opt for insinuations instead apnews.com/article/coronavirus…
There's a further list of debunking here if you're interested redsails.org/the-xinjiang-atro…
The whole thing is very clearly a propaganda blitz that US is cynically using to manipulate impressionable people in the west.

True.

if I'm a Polish nationalist, why would I want to arm banderites, of all people?
A great question for all of your Polish nationalist friends and government, who all support the banderites.
Turns out your hatred for Russia supersedes your own self interests, so it goes with nationalism
Oh yeah, if workers didnt strike that they need to be able to eat, and a "communist" government wouldn't be sending tanks on them the Soviets would still be strong. I admire that logic. Just remind me please, who were the soviets meant to be representing?
It’s clear you have reactionaries and befuddled idiots running the show and the dominant ideology is the ideology of the ruling class.
Usually is. But then on the Ukrainian front lines you have everyone from normies to literal banderites, to anarchists.
And in every surrounding Slavic country, apart for one controlled by a pro-russian govt, there is massive support for the Ukrainian war effort over any political divisions. With the exception of tankie sects witch are microscopic around here, because people actually remember the regimes and what they did, and the far-right which is simply sponsored by Kremlin, or just at this level of being bootlickers cheering for any strongman.
You have not decolonized your mind.
Again you know and understand shit about the history and the region. Poland used to be a imperialist state at some point (actually took Moscow btw - just a fun fact regarding your attempt at fearmongering). But majority of Polish population were slaves to the gentry. Then as a "nation" we progressed to being occupied for 150 years (Russia, Prusia, Austro-Hun's), went thought two world wars, winning a war against CCCP in between, got occupied by nazis and soviets in the beginning of WW2 and ended up de-facto occupied by CCCP after WW2. So the colonialism that's in the culture is not a western one - that we have since say 35 years at best. This generation has little to say in Polish politics as of yet. But the colonialism we're de-colonizing as a society is the old Polish and the Russian one, my dear friend. And we're going strong at it, which seems to be your problem exactly.

These were Ukrainian citizens who spoke Russian and lived in Ukraine all their lives, and before that the USSR. Why wouldn’t they move? Because their grandparents fought the demons from the west and so will they, because they are brave and don’t just accept ethnic cleansing but fight back.
Every generation a new batch of swastika wearing fascist westerners invade Russia, you don’t think they are ready for your shit?
There are millions of Ukrainian citizens who speak Russian and were persecuted. You are saying “why didn’t Russia just accept massive population transfers and millions of refugees”? Ukraine was attempting ethnic cleansing of its own citizens. Why should this be accepted, an illegitimate coup government driving millions from their homes?
You think it’s fine because you are a Russophobic fascist as I have said. You don’t care about people if they speak Russian you think they deserve to die of be driven from their homes, you have the same attitude Americans do about Palestinians.
Ive no idea what tankie conspiracy your referencing right now, im not that much into this lore.
You don't know about the alliance between Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan? I knew you were ignorant, but come on.
The west literally overthrew a democratically elected government in Ukraine to put in a fascist regime. The regime is the biggest threat to people of Ukraine and they know it. This is why nobody is actually signing up to fight this war. The reality is that people are being gang pressed into fighting by the nazis nytimes.com/2023/12/15/world/e…
In fact, according to Bloomberg, the share of forcibly mobilized soldiers in the Ukrainian army is 75% bloomberg.com/news/articles/20…
How about an thought exercise? Don't want? Tough shit, lib.
Let's say that hypothetically, the US violently overthrows the Duma Boko presidency of Botswana because he is demanding for the US to halt their drone operations in the Thebephatshwa Airbase (which he has actually stated a month ago), installed a more extremist pro-Western aligned leader along the lines of Gayton McKenzie or similar, began to shift more drones, missiles, F-35s and those 1,000kg bombs into Botswana to sabre-rattle against South Africa and even invite extremist militias from ISIS, Azov, IDF, Pissad, armed the AWB, NAFO, etc. Assume this is in late 2024 as all the other things are also going on.
The west justifies the overthrow of Botswana under the guise of Botswana suddenly needing "democracy" and as a platform to "punish" South Africa for "reasons". It also doesn't take long for the new regime to start terrorising and killing South Africans who are living, studying or trading in Botswana. Obviously the South African government isn't going to take kindly to Apartheid violence upsurging in a neighbouring country, especially when Western weapons are suddenly flowing into Thebephatshwa, pointing at the Gauteng Province 400 kilometers away. The SANDF is deployed along the border and South Africa immediately sets up red lines and also frequently demands the airbase shut down under threat of war (This was actually a concern in 2019 by the EFF who suggested going to war against Botswana if that airbase wasn't closed, citing a threat to South Africa's security as justification. Of course the present relationship between the two countries is generally good and war is not at all likely for the foreseeable future).
Time passes and Botswana continues to ignore/violate South Africa's demands. Ultimately the final red line is crossed when a terrorist attack is carried out in Gauteng by a militant group from Botswana, regardless if it was successful or intercepted by authorities. South Africa then declared war against Botswana and moves in, firing rockets, sending in the tanks and the SANDF begins marching into Gaborone. Of course with South Africa no longer being a Western country, there is widespread condemnations from Western governments and media, the racism factory in overdrive and South Africa is sanctioned yet again, much more severely this time around. Like :estonia-flag-burning: led the crusade of Russophobia in the early morning of 24 February 2022, this time it would most likely be piSSrael being the lead turbo-racist.
How are you going to react once South Africa goes to war, when all red lines have been crossed in a vain attempt to get a belligirent post-coup government entity to behave? Even as a bigger, stronger nation there are still legitimate security concerns because maybe, just maybe, South Africa doesn't want the AmeriKKKans or the West in general to point those 1,000kg bombs at every apartment tower in Johannesburg? The situation is exactly the same with regards to Russia and Ukraine over the last 11 years.
Death to AmeriKKKa, Death to NATO
Every generation a new batch of swastika wearing fascist westerners invade Russia, you don’t think they are ready for your shit?
When was that area Russia?
You don’t care about people if they speak Russian you think they deserve to die of be driven from their homes
Ive literally spent years living with russian speakers driven from their homes by the regime you simp, idiot.
Oh really? I can't imagine Ukraine having the means to sabotage it, given the location being near Poland. Meanwhile Bellend (and the US in general) had very clear motives and the means to sabotage it so the EU would be forced to buy much more expensive LNG from AmeriKKKans.
Either way, it's not hard to see why there's no outrage over the fact.
US had the clearest motive of all since destroying the pipelines meant not only that they could increase their control of the gas market and as you said, secure transshipment through Ukraine and Poland, but by doing so they also eliminated any possibility or pretense of Germany and Russia resuming their economic collaboration. The US had motives and plans to blow up Nordstream well before it happened. Biden said as such in Feb 2022 before Russia's SMO/invasion even began.
The bombing also forced Germany and the EU to deepen their dependency on the US and severely damaged German industry. Any benefits that accrued to Poland and Ukraine also accrued to the US. Also, US naval vessels were operating in the immediate area of the bombing, and were conducting underwater "training" exercises in the week leading up to the bombing. The US had the motive, means, and expertise to pull off the bombing. It should be obvious the USA did it.
A Ukrainian operative based in Poland suspected of the attack disappeared just before Polish services got to visit his place. Wouldent be surprised if they waited for him to pack; Poland was doing everything it could from Nordstreams being built.
to deepen their dependency
Temp situation, and would be short sighted as a strategy. UE has big gas resources of it's own (Norway, Ireland, "neighboring UK"). A few countries like Karat or Armenia (if I recall correctly) are looking to export gas to EU as well. Which was, according to a Russian general, the reason for their involvement in Syria. And still - EU is very actively working on shifting out all fossil fuels. Diplomatic risks for US outwaight possible benefits.
severely damaged German industry
Russia cut deliveries before the pipeline were blown up. Also the EU did not stop buying Russian gas, it capped the price. The thoughput of the currently operational pipes is enought as well, but doesent allow to blackmail Ukraine or Poland. And finally Ukraine is shutting down them, to further demolish Russian profits.
US naval vessels were operating in the immediate area of the bombing, and were conducting underwater “training” exercises in the week leading up to the bombing.

Right now Piefed voluntarily allow crosspost for bot only as stated by @Rimu here
codeberg.org/rimu/pyfedi/issue…
I've added a feature for a limited form of cross-posting - on any bot-created post, if it hasn't been posted elsewhere yet, there is a cross-posting button. This is most obvious at piefed.social/c/propublica@rss… where a large percentage of the links have already been posted in 'real' communities.Long-term we will want to have cross-posting on all post types but I don't really want to encourage cross-posting until we handle duplicate posts better, like Mbin does.
Thank you all for helping me figure this out

How can Piefed know it's a crosspost if there's no common link between the two posts (usually the link to the article in most posts, or the picture for some others) ?

A cross-post is just a post that links to the same URL as another post.
That's how Lemmy works too. Trust me, I crosspost quite a lot, as you know
I was mistaken. Lemmy only detected automatically the link when title, body and external reference where the same. It did not do it when the title and body was the same on posts without external references.

Research on so-called mirror cells, which defy fundamental properties of living organisms, should be prohibited as too dangerous, biologists said.Carl Zimmer (The New York Times)
In recent decades, chemists have discovered how to make mirror proteins. Researchers have welded together right-handed amino acids to create mirror versions of natural proteins made by our own bodies.Mirror proteins behave much like their natural counterparts, with one important difference: They take much longer to break down. That’s because the natural enzymes that normally degrade proteins have shapes that are adapted for attacking left-handed proteins.
They cannot grip mirror proteins and cut them into fragments. Their failure is akin to what happens if you try to twist open a lid from a jar by turning it counterclockwise, only to discover that the threads on the jar twist in the opposite direction.
Chemists are now trying to exploit mirror proteins, hoping they can be used to create long-acting drugs for diseases ranging from H.I.V. to Alzheimer’s.

Wouldn't they be entirely dependant on mirrored organic molecules? Which we dont have anyway?

I don't really know what I'm talking about
I must not either, because I usually just assume that people who actually use the word chirality in a sentence tend to know what they're talking about.
Mirror proteins behave much like their natural counterparts, with one important difference: They take much longer to break down. That’s because the natural enzymes that normally degrade proteins have shapes that are adapted for attacking left-handed proteins.
They cannot grip mirror proteins and cut them into fragments.
The virtual non-existence of enzymes that can break down right-handed proteins is almost assuredly because their use is vanishingly rare in life on Earth right now. If mirror life did escape the lab and find some way to thrive, normal life would suffer until some normal bacteria happened to mutate and create enzymes that could break it down.
I expect it to be like the Carboniferous period. Trees evolved, and nothing was around that could break down lignin, so they thrived for millions of years and caused devastation to ecosystems of the time. But dead trees represented a lot of untapped raw materials, so eventually other life evolved to break them down.
I would expect the same with mirror life. All else being equal, a few million years of devastation until life evolved ways to fight back. Or humans could dramatically speed that up by genetically engineering normal life (bacteria) with the tools to break down mirror proteins and thus attack mirror cells. It would still be devastating and would completely reshape life on the planet, but it may let humanity squeak through and continue existing.
In theory, but unlikely.
Its main advantage would be evading detection. However, this would work both ways. It wouldn't have the machinery to use 'normal organic molecules.
The 2nd issue would be its structure. It would be entirely synthetic. It will likely be trimmed down genetically. This gives it far less to work with in evolutionary terms.
Basically, it would be a shadow environment. It would be dependent on whatever material it could find, since no current life would be producing what it needs. It would also be limited in it's ability to evolve rapidly to cope.
It would be akin to releasing a pregnant chiwawa into an automated car factory. Could it survive, maybe. Could it cause a bit of damage, maybe. Could it multiply out of control, consuming the machines of the factory, VERY unlikely.
Developing a Lemmy client to have a Facebook-like experience? (Personal profile, groups, pages, etc)
starting out with an unpopular opinion: of all the centralized social media platforms, Facebook was always my favorite.
Why? it is the most full featured. Has threads, reactions, groups, "Pages", polls, and it even has granular privacy controls (for hiding content from other users, not to be confused with Facebook's privacy violations and commercial data use).
This makes me wonder, could we have a Facebook-like experience using Lemmy as a backend? similar to how lemmy has a phpBB experience using lemmyBB.
Lemmy already has threads, and communities can represent groups. Pages and user pages can be simulated with communities.
We would be missing polls and reactions, which I can live with. I am not at all mad that we would be missing content algorithms either.
Although we can't make it identical to Facebook, I think it will get reasonably close and exemplify most of the good parts.
I am thinking to take this project on, but wondering if people have thoughts, if this already exists, or if people would even want to use this.

Such a project could be interesting if it allow to see threads we don't have in typical UI. For example, I would love to be able to add local thread from distance instances. I have a jlai.lu account and a slrpnk.net account. It would be nice to see both instances thread on a same UI and it is "only" a matter of pulling existing content from a list of instances.

True. We could do more with two tab :
- a live chat for mastodon where we can follow people
- a forum for lemmy
That would be my ideal software. :)
Don't you think?
it would be making a software that contain both software separated with a tab. And the ui will improve its navigation.
Have you ever tried a forum with a live chat ? What if we remplace this live chat with matodon post ?
It really wouldn't be a Lemmy client with a Facebook-like personal profile, pages, and more. You'd need your own backend, and then you've got something all its own.
I know you're worried about Friendica's ability to scale, but how big are you expecting to scale your site?

Now that 2024 is coming to the end and Christmas around the corner, have you considered any donations to be given? If yes where?

Flashback lämpar sig ju väl för att bara läsa, och därmed för sporadisk användning.

Men det behövs inte heller. Flashback går alldeles utmärkt att använda oavsett om du är inne varje dag med konto eller någon gång i månaden utan konto.
