What did you do?
just move here, here healthcare is public, you prepay it with your taxes so its free (you dont pay it twice: youre already paying for the public things whenever you buy something)
oh so is education (mostly (also here public schools tend to be better quality than private schools))
and this is the situation in most of the eu (in fact in most of the (non-english speaking) europe even if not in the eu iirc)
oh btw did you know the us technically meets all requirements to be considered a failed state? it isnt because bruh. currently its literally a superpower...yeah at least here you dont have to worry about being shooted (plus you can actually move around on foot here)
edit: if you ask how i know all this even though im only 14...i had to research this for a school project

These game dev studios wouldn't be where they are if people really cared about all this. Every year people complain about these shady practices by these companies, and the same people will then go and buy these games.
Just like "Movember" where men donate to charity and don't shave for a month, we need to do something similar like not buying new games for a financial quarter and donate to open source game development.
Scientists are no longer sure the Universe began with a bang
Scientists are no longer sure the Universe began with a bang | Aeon Essays
It was thought that science could tell us about the origins of the Universe. Today that great endeavour is in serious doubtDaniel Linford (Aeon Magazine)
This article was about 20 times longer than it needed to be. Here’s the ultimate point:
no amount of data can sufficiently determine spacetime’s global properties. It is likely that there are no theorems strong enough to determine whether our Universe began in a past cataclysm. The Malament-Manchak theorem shows that we can’t know how time began – or even if it began.
If you think we'll ever get universal healthcare without prying the capitalist's claws out of their well bribed government first, you haven't been paying attention.
Their bribe checks > any quaint peaceful protest that can be mustered.
All of that is true. But random CEO assassinations by lone wolves will only get us an expanded police state.
Violence will be unavoidable, but not just any old violence will do.
If they escalate, so do those they oppress.
The alternative is... this.
Oligarch's AI deciding if your children are worth healing or if they've already been exploited too much to make it worth it to them.
The violence is happening now. I reject the notion that we should continue to just take it because the slaughter is quiet and according to plan.
This is quiet, not peace. Have you been to our tent cities? Do those victims of our economy look like they're at peace?
If you look at my posting history, you’d see that you’re preaching to the choir.
But that doesn’t change the fact that adventurism isn’t going to get the goods. It’s a symptom of how bad things have gotten, but it’s not a solution. You can’t overthrow the largest global imperial hegemon in history that way. We haven’t even managed to pause a genocide in our name, never mind house, feed, and care for everyone.
Did you see who just won the popular vote? Many of these folks are as likely to cheer on the assassination of a socialist or trans person or an immigrant as a CEO. There isn’t a mass of class conscious proletarians organized for revolution right now. There is virtually no organized labor right now.
An alternative is the same as it’s always been, and it’s the only one that’s proven successful so far: organize, educate, and agitate a mass labor movement, and develop a vanguard party that’s backed by that labor movement.
Im glad we agree on the problem, Im sorry we can't on the only possible solution.
You can't organize a mass labor movement or major party under the current power structure for one important reason, one of the reasons Unions have been all but defeated from their height, the owners simply have a bigger pulpit, the biggest pulpit, the for profit media pulpit. They also have the pulpits of almost all elected officials. They don't need to use this pulpit to win any argument, merely divide this new renewed labor movement over petty divisions as they've done repeatedly over the last 60 years.
They own the means of production, they own the means of state violence, and they own the bully pulpit. All that is left is direct action or acceptance of the futility of the situation until climate change induced collapse.
Because before that climate change induced collapse, they'll also soon have virtually unlimited bipedal robots they can use to fight their battles for them, which will also eliminate direct action, which will effectively make the only possible agency anyone can exercise suicide.
This is last call for even a slim hope. If it requires generational struggle, it's already over. This isn't ebbs and flows of history, our technology and greed enabling are very well set to put a period on that in our lifetimes.

AntennaPod creates yearly summary on my device
How cool is that?! AntennaPod creates a summary and stats of my year listening to podcasts directly on my device without sending it to the cloud!
My year 2024 in podcasts.
Does anyone else use this with Android Auto?
Love that app, but can't get it to resume my podcast when I get in the car. Music works fine, the old Google podcasts worked fine, but I've never gotten it to work with antenna pod.
I do
Mine works. Sometimes it gives me a "recommended" podcast from my list instead of what I was listening to, but I just enter the app and go to queue and select th one at the top.
I recommend all of these, but it's not a real summary. I've hopped around to many different apps since stitcher died. I like Antenna pod, but I switched to Podverse for a little bit before coming back to Antenna Pod. Iirc, Podverse did the queues better, but only if they had properly added support for the specific podcast. I lik Audio fiction, which means I'm constantly looking for new shows. So I encountered a lot that weren't fully supported yet, got frustrated and switched back to Antenna Pod. I've gotten into the habit now of adding a podcast to the queue season by season, and it works ok.
And bonus, if you like Audio fiction, follow theend.fyi/ to find recommendations. It's great!
Any good recommendations for someone into:
- German (slice of life, politics?)
- UK politics? (Jimmy the Giant style, please)
- World History
- Curious Android style Tech and Engineering?
- Linux, but lwn-style not Linus-tips style?
- wrint.de/ has a lot of German shows also with politics and science
- alternativlos.org/ posts seldom but also politics and science
- podcaste97de5.podigee.io/ politics in german
So what exact features does it have? I need three:
- sync my subscription list between devices
- sync the time where I paused to listen to each podcast episode
- sync which episodes I already listened to
I listened to a ton when I bike to and from work. 40 minutes gets like 2 episodes a day, plus when I am at work

Israel Exploits Assad’s Fall to Expand Into Syria
Israel Exploits Assad’s Fall to Expand Into Syria
Israel violated the terms of a 1974 agreement by rolling its tanks across the Syrian border — less than 40 miles from Damascus.Jonah Valdez (The Intercept)
Why do you always say: dictator, murderer, enslaver, etc. What can you theorists know about this?
Do you even know how people lived under Saddam Hussein, the most developed medicine, complete tolerance of religion, there were no Islamic states, Houthis, etc., one of the highest standards of living and its quality in the region, the same thing happened in Libya during the time of Gaddafi, Muammar's state flourished and what is happening now in both states? Islamist's, states torn to shreds, complete lawlessness... Should I continue...
China?! How is this not a dictatorship? And that your computers are made in China, iPhones, cars... nothing?!
Were you in Syria in 1995? Of course not and you don't know or wouldn't want to know how they lived, and they lived very well, better than now, for example, the Baltic countries, etc.
Dictator, dictator... You have to think sometimes!
If anyone wants to know how to spot when someone has a clear and extreme bias, one can spot it very clearly in the comment above.
When someone lists a group's (religion, race, ethnicity) existence as a negative along with things like "lawlessness, state torn to shreds", you now have a firm understanding of who they're willing to dehumanize to make their points.
Еverything was fine with them, they lived as they could and as they wanted... What now? You are the judge who gave you the right to judge.
Hezbollah is an ambusher fighter, not an offensive fighter, though
Besides, don't wanna get in another Syrian quagmire
I mean they should've started their attacks on Tel Aviv and northern settlements again to draw the IDF into a fight on their southern flank. though with said flank under defended by Israelis ATM they could probably kick them out of the remaining occupied towns in S. Lebanon.
They wouldn't need to engage in Syria beyond maybe cross border attacks on IDF troops and convoys if they were taking this threat seriously. Either way it's clear Israel intends to bypass the southern fortresses and break the ceasefire deal very soon
No, don't throw the younger generations under the bus to clean up our messes.
If nothing else we are ride or die with them.
Unfortunately you won't die with us, you'll die much sooner, not choking on a lack of oxygen or dying of dehydration.
We need more elders like those in Japan who volunteered to clean up nuclear waste because they wouldn't have to live with the long-term side effects of being exposed to radiation.
As elders, y'all wouldn't have to live as long in jail ¯\__(ツ)__/¯
Who would win?

General strike in the US seems like less of an impossibility year by year
Just restating some of the greatest hits:
- Universal healthcare
- Universal education through university level or trade school
- At least a month pto annually
- Parental leave for births
- Guaranteed sick leave
- 32hr new full time threshold before overtime
- Only public, equal funds for elections, no PACs/dark money/donations, no lobbyist bribes
- Any elected official over a certain level cannot engage in trading of individual stocks or own businesses, dump it all in an index fund or hand off management to someone else they cannot contact without a mediator and recording, immediate expulsion & no longer able to hold office when found in violation
- No billionaires/oligarchs, anyone with earnings and assets over a billion should be taxed at 100% and assets redistributed
Edit: May 1st 2028 looks like a good target thanks to the UAW thenation.com/article/activism…
@ #9; Whoa there. 100% is unreasonable. Still there's room to start at a hard 90% at about 250 million and then incrementally scale until the tax is say, about 95-97% by about a billion.
Unfortunately you cannot tax anyone 100%; that would ultimately be unfair and demotivating and only motivate corruption to avoid the tax
Makes perfect sense. It's like having $999,999,999.99 in a management game.
It doesn't go above that, but if you buy a ton of assets and set them down, it'll probably climb right back up there to the limit again at some point.
You still have a billion bucks to do whatever with.
Although yeah, businesses routinely buy things for billions (like acquiring Minecraft? Hah) So they'd find some clever way of putting it all in some kind of "company trust" or something, so they don't have it as an individual.
But I'm no lawyer. I still think having it on the books would be better than not, if it went to healthcare and education instead of funneling into the defense industry, that is...
they'd find some clever way of putting it all in some kind of "company trust" or something, so they don't have it as an individual.
That's fine, as long as there's legal stipulations as to how that money can be spent, similar to campaign finance laws. That kind of money should go back into the company to the benefit of both the workers (via continued employment and fair compensation) and the consumers that support the company (via the quality of the company's product). It should not go to any individual executive to pocket and walk away with.
You’re still allowed to have a billion
Why? Why do you feel the need to hold on to this "aspiration"?
You will never become a billionaire, stop defending your exploiters.
I'd recommend a longer full time week. If the full time week is too short, many people well rely on overtime for their salary. This completely destroys the benefits of some of your other points, since you can't do overtime during vacations, parental leave, sick leave, etc.
Overtime should not be the norm if you want a good social/financial security.
Edit: part time job should of course always be possible if your revenue allows you to work shorter weeks
Remember when the railroad threatened to strike and nacy pelosi said they would throw them in jail if they didn't go to work.....fucking unreal.
A few take aways:
They need us so fucking bad
They will do anything to maintain control
No one at that level is fighting for you
Solidarity will be hard to achieve because those threats will be too much for people on the ropes in their day to day life to endure.
Remember when the railroad threatened to strike and nacy pelosi said they would throw them in jail if they didn’t go to work…fucking unreal.
, detailing how the inability/refusal to strike has resulted in an exodus/early retirement of train engineers sufficient to knee-cap the industry already. Increased incidence of train derailments, higher rates of rail jams and mechanical failures, and generally slower delivery times are all the result of the decline in experienced and knowledgeable industry workers.
None of this matters to the train management, which has reaped an enormous windfall in profits at the steady marginal decline in network efficiency. Monopoly means you either pay the cartel for degraded service or you ship using a more expensive method.
Solidarity will be hard to achieve because those threats will be too much for people on the ropes in their day to day life to endure.
Its important to recognize modern capitalist control as a form of hostage taking. "Pay us the ransom or your critical infrastructure get its", even as we're receiving fingers and earlobes in the mail with every passing year.
Solidarity is about liberating these critical components of infrastructure and operating them for the benefit of the public. The goal isn't to shut down these institutions, but to run them without profiteers leeching the excess revenue. That's why some of the most effective popular economic protests don't involve suspending services, but operating them while refusing to collect fees for service.

This is so fuckin true.
Solidarity is about liberating these critical components of infrastructure and operating them for the benefit of the public.
BINGO if we have the power to protest effectively then we can actually make them hurt. Right now I feel like we don't have that power at all. Just citing my example of the railroads, they stepped in quick and made sure the goods kept moving.
The goal isn't to shut down these institutions, but to run them without profiteers leeching the excess revenue.
Absolutely.
That's why some of the most effective popular economic protests don't involve suspending services, but operating them while refusing to collect fees for service.
This is interesting to me I always understood keeping services running for the sake of not harming innocent citizens But I didn't really think it was effective. I could see a public transport rail system doing that and it working, but how do workers in other industries prevent the corporation they work for from taking in the revenue
how do workers in other industries prevent the corporation they work for from taking in the revenue
Keep doing what you're doing without operating the cash register, whether that's serving meals or fixing cars or whatever.
For some stuff this won't work (entertainment, for instance, needs a full work stoppage to compel capital concessions). But if you're working to rule at a point of critical infrastructure, the only thing that really needs to stop is the financial side of the business.
Not if i'm your juror.
"Hmm. Golly i'm just not convinced HSR is guilty beyond reasonable doubt"
For now. Give it a few decades when the effects of climate change start forcing people out of their homes, cause widespread crop failure, kill thousands with heatwaves and storms, etc.
If you're choice is between
- losing your home, starving to death, or in some way dying in the streets
Or
- losing your home, starving to death, or in some way dying in the streets after holding those responsible to account a la the adjuster
More and more people will choose option 2.
You're more likely to die in a heat wave in prison right now.
IDK maybe that's more reason to fight, just to the death.
For now that's the case. But if there ever becomes a time when life outside of prison means starving to death, dying in a heat wave or storm, it won't matter.
People still have things to lose. But people are losing things.
Plus the two aren't mutually exclusive. You could just as easily go to prison and then just be abandoned there once the climate becomes uninhabitable anyway. Wouldn't be the first time:
Back in 2005, when Katrina hit New Orleans, prison guards abandoned prisoners in locked cells as the floodwaters rose chest-high. Several thousand of those inmates were eventually rescued, but then miserably housed on a broken piece of interstate, directly exposed to the Southern summer sun.
