Attacker Has Techdirt Reclassified As Phishing Site, Proving Masnick’s Impossibility Law Once Again

in reply to deadcade

I just meant a company trusted a bogus phising claim and took down a legitimate site. Yeah, they're a little different though.
in reply to Cethin

Companies would rather protect themselves from potential litigation than stand up for their paying customers so yeah most companies probably just preemptively block the site as soon as the abuse report comes in. They're not really under any obligation to actually check that the abuse report was correct or not, so most companies have decided to cut positions/funding to any sort of complaint review department which is why they can be so slow/unhelpful/incompetent most of the time.

What apps / sites do you use to find restaurants in your city?

My favorite that I've used for years, foursquare, is shutting down in a few days. Pretty bummed because I found some of the best restaurants I've ever been to with it. 15 years and thousands of reviews, all in the trash now.

Google maps is useless for most cities, in mine every restaurant has a 4.7-4.8, and seems gamed.

Yelp is an awful company I'd rather not use, and its based on top reviewers, rather than reviews.

Tripadvisor is missing way too much to be useful.

What are ppl using nowadays?

  1. Google Maps
  2. Happy Cow
  3. DuckDuckGo searches such as "best vegan in Philadelphia".

Niger’s new government “is a blessing for us farmers”

Do you actually think Luigi is not the guy? We have quite a few pieces of evidence to contradict that idea at this point
in reply to TrickDacy

It does seem odd that he was just chilling at McDonalds with the gun, the fake ID, and his manifesto ready to go.
in reply to TrickDacy

My unfounded conspiracy theory is some questionable legal methods were used used to track him and the whole McDonalds snitch is a cover to make the search legal and arrest him. I can't understand how someone who saw the photos released could have positively identified him.
in reply to 🏴 hamid the villain [he/him] 🏴

Never underestimate the incoherency of an American hog.

If anything, him getting caught by being an idiot ay McDonalds makes the story more believable.

Now that 2024 is coming to the end and Christmas around the corner, have you considered any donations to be given? If yes where?

Fair warning if you donate to Wikipedia you will be emailed every 1 or 2 weeks asking if you can afford to donate again in guilt tripping manner. I unsubscribed due to it. I support the freedom of knowledge but nagging the people who do donate ain't the way to go if you are looking for more money

This latest generation of ARC GPUs is very promising. I'm really glad there's finally some good budget gaming GPUs out there. Intel has really committed to this product line, and I really hope it continues to pay off.

The price/performance is fantastic, the power efficiency is decent, and the feature set is way beyond expectations--almost caught up with Nvidia on their second attempt. The rate of improvement is impressive.

I have some friends still on GTX 10 series cards that would love this upgrade. That being said, personally, there's no reason for me to switch yet. As soon as Intel has something that can beat an RTX 3080Ti via higher tiers or next gen, I'll gladly ditch Nvidia.

To those patients... It matters...

At least for a few months, if we fail to turn the moment into a movement and they do it anyway.

But for today, fewer patients will be billed life ruining sums after supposedly approved life saving surgery they were entitled to. Nothing can take that away from him. He made a difference.

Allow me to tell you the story of the starfish and the beach…

A young girl was walking along a beach upon which thousands of starfish had been washed up during a terrible storm. When she came to each starfish, she would pick it up, and throw it back into the ocean. People watched her with amusement.

She had been doing this for some time when a man approached her and said, “Little girl, why are you doing this? Look at this beach! You can’t save all these starfish. You can’t begin to make a difference!”

The girl seemed crushed, suddenly deflated. But after a few moments, she bent down, picked up another starfish, and hurled it as far as she could into the ocean. Then she looked up at the man and replied,

“Well, I made a difference for that one!”

IF you can only do one push-up, thats enough. IF you can only walk around the block, its a start. An avalanche begins with the movement of a single pebble.

Be the Green Mario you wish to see in the world.

We're seeing the same happen in Belgium, the euthanasia laws are pretty open (which is good imo) but it means some people receive euthanasia because they are not getting the treatment they need, not because they fully choose so. Euthanasia is a good thing to have, but in a continuously degrading healthcare system it will turn in a "cost saving policy" like so many other things.

Anyway, access to euthanasia good, liberals bad

Price of bread up 900% after liberation of Syria: UN warns

The humanitarian situation in Syria remains unstable after the collapse of the Bashar Al-Assad regime, the United Nations has said.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said that hospitals across Syria are overwhelmed with many suffering from psychological stress, and children showing signs of shock.

In several cities, such as the capital Damascus, there have been reports of food shortages. Since the beginning of the armed opposition forces’ attack, the price of bread in cities such as Idlib and Aleppo has increased by 900 per cent...

in reply to technocrit

I am sure running a whole ass country takes a different skill set than overthrowing the government. I am amazed there is bread to sell.
in reply to technocrit

Original source.

I'm guessing it's just because there was fighting again and people weren't expecting it to end so quickly, and started hoarding.

It's already quite obvious that the whole DEI jihadist narrative is meant strictly for the smooth brained public in the west.
in reply to ☆ Yσɠƚԋσʂ ☆

It's crossed my mind as well to be perfectly honest. But I haven't read anything to say definitively. Do you know anything that I'm missing?
in reply to Sundial

Well people fleeing Syria is a pretty good sign that they fear for their safety. Meanwhile, there are now lots of posts on social media showing all the usual ISIS horrors unfolding in Syria such as beheadings, hangings, and so on. The worst kinds of terrorists have taken over the country, and they do the things they always do.

That's fair. I'd imagine it's from a variety of reasons given the state of Syria right now but I won't deny there is probably truth to these words.

Meanwhile, there are now lots of posts on social media showing all the usual ISIS horrors unfolding in Syria such as beheadings, hangings, and so on. The worst kinds of terrorists have taken over the country, and they do the things they always do.

I don't have social media so that might explain why I'm out of the loop. The new government says something and HTS does another. Seems HTS isn't as completely "reformed" from their Al-Nusra/Al-Qaeda days as they would like you to believe.

in reply to Sundial

There is no evidence to suggest that HTS is reformed in any way, nor is there any reason to think they would be. Furthermore, it's important to note that HTS themselves is just a small part of the whole picture.

Many from ethnic minorities are fleeing Syria after Bashar al-Assad’s brutal regime was deposed on the weeekend

So whom exactly was this regime brutal to? Majority, while supporting minorities? This seems like the same nonsense as with Xinjiang propaganda where the alleged extermination of Uyghurs and sinicizing them into Han culture resulted with great increasing of the Uyghur population not only in absolute numbers but also % in relation to Han population.

Stackabrix, a simple terminal game

cross-posted from: lemmy.world/post/23017061

gitlab.com/christosangel/stack…

stackabrix is a simple terminal game, written in Bash, where the user, against the clock and with the least moves possible, must sort the blocks according to their color, and stack them in the respective stack.

During the game, the user can move left and right, pick blocks and drop them in other stacks.

The aim is to sort the blocks, and stack them in the respectively named stacks, fast as possible, and with the least moves possible.

The play's score is the sum of the time achieved in seconds and of the moves made.

If the score is among the 10 best scores achived, it makes it in the Top Ten Highscores.

Any feedback is welcome.

I keep an empty sql DB just for importing and working with spreadsheets to minimize how much I have to fuck with excel.
in reply to alcoholicorn

Mind elaborating? I'm interested in anything keeping me away from excel
in reply to Hnery

You can also use BULK INSERT for csvs or just INSERT INTO and some text editing depending on the specifics.

This is more for one-off stuff like analyzing some 10,000 row spreadsheet you've been handed that you could probably do with formulas in excel, but it's easier to use sql, but not worth building a proper process for.

Might want to give notebooks like Jupyter a try - they make for a pretty good time when it comes to working with data.
in reply to rastro

Honestly spreadsheets are kind of great for some things. I'm sure most of their bad rep comes from being applied to the wrong problems - see businesses using it for basically everything.
