What opinions about the tech industry do you feel comfortable expressing here, but not in public/at work?

Most IT infra exists solely to justify work that is pointless work.

One if the worst IT sectors is ad tech. The entire industry rationally should not exist.

Having some issues in Proxmox trying to learn SDNs

I am learning how to configure SDNs and I have created a VLAN that has a bridge vmbr1 in my node with ip 10.0.0.1.1/8, the VMs (10.0.1.2/8 & 10.0.1.3/8) can communicate correctly between them, but I have TrueNAS in one of them with a NFS share in which I store my ISOs and I can not get my host node (the one that is 10.0.0.1/8 in vmbr1) to communicate with that NFS share.

Is there something I have misconfigured or is it that the VMs inside an SDN cannot communicate with the node host?

Given that W. E. B. du Bois died in 1963 and the state of the planet today, it appears that this quote unfortunately made no impact whatsoever on society..

Depends on the country, or how big a picture you're taking. Dubois didn't have much hope for the US, and he placed most of his hopes for the future in a union of African states, and PRC and USSR of course.

Jellyfin Smart Playlists

Hi!

I've been working on a smart playlist plugin for Jellyfin for a couple of weeks, and by now it's at a stage where I can say it's usable and doesn't have any show-stopper bugs. The playlists are created and edited in the plugin's settings.

A simple configuration for all liked pop songs would look like this:

Id: Favourite Pop
Name: Favourite Pop
Program: |
  (and (is-type "Audio") (is-favorite) (is-genre "pop" (genre-list)))
SortProgram: |
  (begin *items*)

It supports reflection, so any filter or property can be added without modifying the plugin directly; most of the pre-defined filters are implemented this way.

There also is a mirror at Codeberg: codeberg.org/redxef/jellyfin-smart-playlist

the last meaningful innovation Apple, Google, Facebook et all have done is the switch to arm cpus. The rest is smoke and mirrors and a massively hyped set of bubbles. They are trying to ride the hype wave and don’t care much about solving real world problems. AI is import and but generative chatbots are not and everyone is focusing on those.
