Kidney patients face excruciating death in Gaza

in reply to Garibaldee

the kind of hell we put this kid and this mother (and her family) through will come back to bite us in the ass and an overwhelming majority will have no idea why it happened. i hate how we're so easy to distract and propagandize that we can literally now watch the horror we visit upon these people in real time but still only regard it as nothing more than a "single issue" when voting on election day.

i suppose; in a round about way; you could see trump's victory was karma leveling the scales to give us a slow smolder while the palestinians get it hot & fast; and all of it needlessly so, simply for the sake of profit.

in reply to eldavi

I don't know when exactly but it sure seems like we already lost this country before Biden or Trump if this is an easy choice for both of them to make
in reply to eldavi

Agree. Punish every single American for our complicity. We deserve worse IMO.

Which... is "funny" because even though it is a genuine arm race where 2 powerful nations are competing... it's a pointless one.

Sure, we do get slightly better STT, TTS, some "generation" of "stuff", as in human sounding text use for spam and scam, images and now videos without attribution, but the actual hard stuff? Not a lot of real change there.

Anyway, interesting to see how the chips war unfold. For now despite the grand claim though from both :

  • US with software and models for AI (Claude, OpenAI, etc driven by VC backed funding looking for THE next big thing, which does NOT materialize) ) and hardware, mostly NVIDIA (so happy to sell shovels for the current gold rush) or
  • China with "cheap" to train large models (DeepSeek) and hardware (SMIC, RISC based chips) to "catch-up" without any large production batch with any comparable yield

neither have produced anything genuinely positive IMHO.

android app: sorry this app cannot function without access to your contacts and location.

in reply to Imgonnatrythis

Then disable it if it cannot be uninstalled and install an alternative.
in reply to Jaspertato

Real talk, this screenshot is probably for an application intended for hiding communications with another partner from your spouse. When I worked in support for a phone manufacturer I encountered it once while educating a customer about excessive app permissions. I pointed out "for example this calculator app has permission to make and receive calls. A calculator app should never have permissions like that" and he sheepishly explained what the app was and that in this case it actually should. Points for honesty I guess?

Ahh, the classic IKEA SOPTUNNA, a staple of the elegant home.

Well, DAN, if you were more supportive of bins, maybe they wouldn't be so blue.

Argh chives

Bought a pot of chives and every time I look away, it seems to grow multiple centimeters in size. I have to give it a haircut almost daily...
in reply to Ephera

I don't even know what you put chives in. I think I had them in scrambled eggs like once?
in reply to JusticeForPorygon

I am currently finding that out, too. 🙃

So far, I've had them in a vegetable curry and in a sort-of-East-Asian style dish (rice, chickpeas, teriyaki, sriracha, peanut sauce) and I threw them onto a toast where I had a tomato-hummus spread on there.
I feel like that generally works quite well, if your base food is already quite rich in either veggies or spices, then you can just throw chives into the mix without it poking out too much. Lots of those dishes might use leek anyways, and chives aren't too different from that.

White people are undeniably racist.

But I believe the First-Second-Third World distinctions were originally politically based on whether a country was aligned with Western Capitalism-Soviet Union- or non-aligned, respectively. Definitely racist elements involved in condemning/couping USSR and the non-aligned countries though.

I think people generally now mean to say Global South when they say that, which is more racially charged but also ultimately political-economic.

in reply to 🏴 hamid the villain [he/him] 🏴

For those that don't know, first world is the allies in world War 2. Second world are the axis. And third world countries are those that didn't participate, you know, like Switzerland.

in reply to JusticeForPorygon

Liberalism means: unlimited freedom for capitalists to do whatever they can get away with, and against worker empowerment and organization. This applies to every liberal party, whether its the Australian liberals, or the US ones.

Israeli Officer Shoots Palestinian Man Serving as Human Shield in Rafah During IDF Operation

An IDF officer has mistakenly shot dead a Palestinian man who was serving as a human shield for the Nahal brigades 931st Battalion in Gaza.

The man was allowed to reside alongside the troops and was tasked with searching buildings and tunnels before the troops entered. This incident raises further allegations of IDF brutality in Gaza. The IDF has admitted the incident and stated that an investigation is underway.

There's a machete wielding dude who just lingers at our local public park most days. He chases people around but so far no maiming. The police have stopped responding to calls about him.

SteamOS expands beyond Steam Deck (Lenovo Legion Go S)

cross-posted from: lemmy.ml/post/24555514

With Lenovo's announcement at CES 2025 of the Lenovo Legion Go S, we are pleased to share that their "Powered by SteamOS" model is the first handheld officially licensed to ship with Valve's SteamOS. We built this operating system to provide a seamless user experience optimized for gaming, while retaining access to the power and flexibility of a PC. SteamOS is the same operating system we run on Steam Deck, and the team is making updates to ensure it fully supports the Lenovo Legion Go S and provides the same seamless experience customers expect.

In addition, the same work that we are doing to support the Lenovo Legion Go S will improve compatibility with other handhelds. Ahead of Legion Go S shipping, we will be shipping a beta of SteamOS which should improve the experience on other handhelds, and users can download and test this themselves. And of course we'll continue adding support and improving the experience with future releases.

DW News, Germany is far different from the German people that were pre-WW2. This is dank because Trump is coming into power and he said dictator from day one.

Alas, even what he said is egregious it rapidly/rapistly follows his president.

Edit: this is a meme, but it hits hard for some people.

The fuck are you on about? Where is any of this in your original post? What does it have to do with anything?

"Meme" is not another word for "joke".
