Avete consigli?

in reply to suoko

@lgsp

in reply to informapirata ⁂

That turned into a direct link at least from Mbin

!yepowertrippinbastards@lemmy.dbzer0.com

I think something in Lemmy's text editor does that sometimes.

in reply to FartsWithAnAccent

Yes, something to be solved between Mbin and Lemmy devs
in reply to Blaze (he/him)

I'm not so sure about the Mbin part, I've had it happen from my Lemmy account too. As far as I can tell, it suggests the direct link lemmy.dbzer0.com/c/yepowertrip… when you type !yepowertrippinbastards@lemmy.dbzer0.com if you accept the autosuggest.

From what I've seen, if you ignore it and just type/paste the link and submit the comment, it doesn't happen.

in reply to FartsWithAnAccent

On Lemmy it works using the autosuggest, I'm pretty confident. Which instance are you using?
in reply to Blaze (he/him)

fedia.io (Mbin), but I've seen the formatting shenanigans happen on my posts made in lemmy.world too.
in reply to SatyrSack

I only blocked one guy and every time I see an unavailable comment and see the comments around, I remember why it was a good choice 👍

Epson ET-2815 on Linux - epson-printer-utility not recognizing the printer

in reply to Hule

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried this, and nothing happened. I think it might only work for the printers with an LCD-display? Mine does not have that (does yours?), and I remember reading somewhere that to do that hardcore cleaning (I can't recall what they called it), I would need to run it using either Windows or macOS.
in reply to cyberwolfie

Mine doesn't have a display (L3150), but you're right about the deep cleaning. You doo need the utility for that.

I got away with 4 consecutive cleaning rounds..

edit: I've seen the button combination in your printer's user manual.

of course I could have RTFM'd but it's really weird that it doesn't set DRM itself. so if you think you'll get any kind of sensible default on first boot ... well. nope you get nothing not even TTYs to fix it
in reply to petsoi

Wow, this is pretty good! I might have to finally ditch sway.

Pixelfed - No video preview image

When I upload a short video to Pixelfed, I don't get a preview image. The video is mp4 H.264. Is there a solution? I would find Pixelfed super as an Instagram replacement. But without a preview, it's not that nice. I gave an example as a link. What experiences do you have with pixelfed and videos?

Could this be due to the post visibility setting of your post, your account, or the server you're on? Or perhaps a synchronisation delay. I ask because...

Browsing that link in Firefox on Android shows me a preview?

When I view your profile with my Pixelfed account (using Moshidon on Android) shows no posts?

This could be an incompatibility in viewing Pixelfed API data - try a client which specifically lists Pixelfed support, such as Fedilab - their (stickbro) profile shows up fine for me in Fedilab, $0.02.

in reply to Stickbro

Your favourite search engine -> "pixelfed no video preview" -> several Github issues that are all closed, some with commits saying something was fixed, others just closed without resolution.

I experience this preview problem viewing videos posted both by Pixelfed uploads (such as yours) and videos posted via Mastodon instances which I follow in Pixelfed. There's something broken in Pixelfed software being able to generate video previews from several sources in my experience, which do not exist if you follow those same accounts from a Mastodon instance.

🚀 A little guide on how to communicate with Lemmy from Mastodon Friendica Hubzilla Sharkey etc

I remind you that mastodon users can overcome the serious problem of not being able to view Lemmy communities in an orderly manner.
The Raccoon for Friendica app, compatible with Mastodon, provides simplified viewing (viewing only topics) for all accounts of the Lemmy community, Friendica group or Gup.pe group type

Raccoon, the Friendica app that also has surprises for Mastodon users (automatic translation from Italian)

Oh yes! #RaccoonForFriendica is the most complete app ever seen for Friendica and, in addition to working with Mastodon, it might be the only app in the world capable of managing the potential of Mastodon Glitch-soc

"mastodon users can overcome the serious problem of not being able to view Lemmy communities in an orderly "

This is generally the way Mastodon displays posts, that they do not appear in an orderly manner. Mastodon does this with all posts, No matter whether they come from Lemmy or Friendica, Akkoma or Mastodon. This has nothing to do with Lemmy.
Posts/replies in Mastodon always appear individually and without context in the timeline. In the timeline, the latest posts/replies (Mastodon does not differentiate between them) always appear at the top, then many other individual posts, then at some point the question about the reply from above and so on.
(I personally find that very confusing, but this is probably the common microblogging style and one of several reasons why I also prefer Friendica over Mastodon, because Friendica has a very good thread view, which I miss in Mastodon)

... but thank you very much for the tip that Racoon also works well with Mastodon. A very good tip for Mastodon users! 👍

But if you click on an OP on Mastodon (whether from Lemmy or wherever) , there is already a thread view that is quite ok and shows the structure and progress chronologically.

This is what this thread looks like from Mastodon

You may have to click twice in Mastodon because you can't see in the timeline whether a post is an OP or a reply to it.

In my opinion, this is not a contingent consequence, but the problem is a bit deeper: Mastodon staff knows well that helping Mastodon users to use groups better (for example by helping them to visualize them better) means helping competing projects like Friendica, Lemmy, Mbin, Piefed, gup.pe and even Peertube (which also works as a synolos between user (author) and group (channel).
Helping the rest of the Fediverse means giving up the dominant leadership position that guarantees them subsidies, donations, visibility and, above all, the possibility to do whatever the fuck they want, imposing de facto standards.

Distribution of active users in the Fediverse (source: fedidb.org - 12/2024)

PS: this is why I am a supporter of Friendica, Lemmy/Piefed, Wordpress, Mbin, Peertube and Bonfire: because virtuous competition brings diversity and diversity brings resilience

in reply to Informapirata

Yes, I also find that another problem with Mastodon, that they display posts from other software so poorly or incompletely (e.g. with Peertube not the video description, not all images etc.).
And I share your view of the desire for dominance in the Fediverse and there have been corresponding conflicts between developers in the past. One point of conflict a few years ago was that the Mastodon dev didn't want group functions, so Mastodon can't create groups.

But I still don't quite understand what you mean by the problem “do not appear in an orderly manner”? What does that have to do with groups?

Israeli forces death toll rises to seven amid intensified Gaza clashes

Earlier today, the Israeli Occupation Force admitted to the deaths of two soldiers and the injury of 30 others during battles in Gaza. Subsequent reports now reveal that the toll has risen, with seven Israeli soldiers confirmed dead and 30 others evacuated due to injuries, including 11 in serious or critical condition.

Israeli media reported that a powerful explosive device detonated inside a tunnel in Gaza early in the day, resulting in the initial fatalities. The total number of Israeli soldiers killed since October 2023 has now reached 831, according to Israeli reports.
