11 Israelis injured in Houthi missile attack
At least 11 Israelis were injured early Tuesday while rushing to shelters after a missile launched from Yemen targeted central Israel, according to Israeli public broadcaster KAN.
The Israeli army said its air defenses intercepted the missile before it entered Israeli airspace. Air-raid sirens were sounded across central Israel, prompting hundreds of thousands to seek shelter.
Medical teams treated 11 people for injuries sustained while running to shelters, with four others receiving treatment for panic, the broadcaster reported.
The Houthi group later confirmed that it had carried out the strike, saying that it targeted the Israeli Defense Ministry with a hypersonic ballistic missile.

Jumping in head first. 42 key tented corne, layout set to colmak-dh
After developing wrist issues and plateauing at 65 WPM on traditional keyboards, I decided it was time to improve my typing form. My technique had always been a hybrid of touch typing and hunt-and-peck, heavily favoring my left hand while only using 2-3 fingers on my right.
Twenty plus years of ingrained typing habits needed a complete reset, and what better way than switching to an entirely new format? The ergonomic mechanical keyboard scene had caught my eye since college, which led me to the 42-key split Corne.
I opted for a pre-built model, and despite the current learning curve (hovering around 15 WPM), I couldn't be happier with the decision. The only minor issue is with the tenting stands I added - they tend to slide during pinky key presses. While I have a few spare double-sided adhesive pads to experiment with, I'm still working on finding the optimal tenting solution through trial and error.

Part of the reason I did it all in one go as well was so I still had the proper muscle memory for QWERTY mechs/laptop Krebs, and I've read that doing it all in one go was a good way to achieve that. Are you still able to type on qwerty boards without a hitch?
I'm most likely going to be unable to actually use these for work for a few weeks. These came in on Saturday and I've spent about 3hrs on kebr and I'm about halfway unlocked with the letters with a target wpm set to 15 lol.
Figured I'll use kebr for initial letter learning and then start switching to other platforms like monkeytype and one that i saw suggested with common n-grams after that
Looking forward to getting over this initial hump, but its definitely been a bit demoralizing.
I switch between conventinal qwerty and colemak dh ortholinear on the daily! The different layouts is how I keep them apart :P
15wpm is great for 3 hours! At some point u gotta take the plunge, I used to switch back to qwerty for screensharing since I didn't want to make anybody watch me struggle to type one word for 10 seconds lol. But the sooner you start at work the sooner you will be comfortable with it. Maybe when you've unlocked all the letters on keybr :P
Keep it up, u got this.
Perfect, that's exactly what I'm going for.
Yeah I've been playing with it a bit at work today with my mappings printed outaround me. Noticing a few that I'm not in love with (mainly symbols and some hotkeys) going to try to adhear to the miryoku mantra of hotkeys alternating sides, as I find some of the defaults I need to move my whole hand to be inefficient.
Adding these rubber feet resolved all sliding, but I'm sure if I angled the kickstands properly the first go around that it would have worked as is
Pic incase someone runs into the same issue in the future:
Yeah once I saw some heatmaps I was sold
Since I type for money, and its not like my wpm were anything to brag about, I figured I might as well take some time to optimize so I don't end up hurting myself further down the line

It used to be that you couldn't grow the pool, so you needed all of your drives up-front.
Now you can start with four drives and slowly grow over time to whatever your target goal is. It's much more friendly for home labs/tight budgets.
Oracle ZFS is so obscure by now that it's irrelevant.
As usual with Oracle products, it's just a means to squeeze poorly led companies.
Also, note that doesn't increase the stripe size for old data; it's just for future writes.
But you could copy the old data to a new location and it would take advantage of the new stripe size.

I agree it was expected but it's important that it happened.
I've always assumed Meta's investment in Threads's ActivityPub compatibility was purely to show the EU, "Hey look, we're trying to follow the open standard."
For that reason I've believed that giving Meta a VERY short leash was reasonable. While I believed them to be full of shit, I think extending an olive branch and allowing them to be part of the Fediverse at large was a worthwhile effort.
They have however put almost no effort into being a good part of the Fediverse. They've implemented minor features and sharing, just enough to say " technically we're working on it."
Now we can see them directly blocking. Now maybe in a few days they'll say "whoopsie", but I think this clearly shows they truly have no interest or intention of being part of the Fediverse.
I'm not surprised by this. I fully expected this. But I was willing to give them a chance. Maybe they didn't deserve that chance. I think they've certainly forfeited it now.
I’ve always assumed Meta’s investment in Threads’s ActivityPub compatibility was purely to show the EU, “Hey look, we’re trying to follow the open standard.”
Threads’s ActivityPub compatibility isn't available in the EU. European Threads profiles cannot enable ActivityPub federation.
This makes facebook officially the enemy of the Fediverse and the open internet.
Defederate from them completely everywhere they show up. They can't be trusted.
The Beginner’s guide to Friendica
NEW BLOG POST:The Beginner’s guide to Friendica
Read it on my website (recommended):
tiotrom.com/2020/11/the-beginn…
Or read it here:
I wrote this blog recently about what the Fediverse is and why it is so awesome, together with how I created a monster to automate our Friendica TROM page and my personal account to post everywhere (Facebook, Twitter, TROM Live, my Live). Yesterday we had a really great TROMcast with the people behind Friendica and Mastodon, and Disroot.org. And I want to write a brief “beginner guide” to Friendica, because I love Friendica :). And the people behind the project are super friendly.
First of all, make an account to give it a try.
There are many “instances” so you can choose whichever. I personally recommend venera.social. It works great and the guy behind the project seems like a very nice human. Register and wait for approval. I know, it seems like a pain in the ass to wait for approval, but trust me on this. It is going to be a fast approval and they do that so that they keep these instances nice and clean. Your account will be approved 100%.
Tweak your account.
After you are approved simply go through your settings and set up stuff. It is a lot better than Facebook and easier to grasp and very clean. You can choose to block content based on language, words, you can choose who can see your posts and such. It is up to you how you set this up. Take it easy. No rush. You don’t have to do anything if you don’t want to, and you can do any changes in time. It is your baby dear.
Start to follow people and organizations.
This is what you are there for. But how can you find them? Don’t be like a hungry bear that goes into a house and wants to eat everything it finds, and if it does not find much, it goes away. Be a nice, civilized, and sane bear and you’ll get to eat in that house very good food and not get fat. For starters you can follow us, people from TROM. Sasha, Shas, Aaron, me, Alexio and more importantly our TROM page. Then look through our contact list and add more people. Let it grow slowly and organically. In the contacts settings, you can search people based on interests (keywords). Let it grow slowly and I mean that. You may be used with Facebook and the crazy of influx of information that engulfs your entire life. This is a way for you to start as brand new and meet new people. It is like moving from New York (facebook) to a small nice village. You’ll see, life is better there ;).
The awesome part that keeps me personally there.
Friendica opens the doors to pretty much any Federated network. Say you find a Mastodon account in the wild. Copy the url to your Friendica search bar then simply follow them. Do the same for any other Federated network. Now you can interact with these people (send private messages, see their posts in your feed, comment to them, like, share, etc.).
Follow websites!
Yah! You can. Pretty much any website (since most have an RSS feed). Copy our videoneat.com url, or tromjaro.com, tiotrom.com, bigworldsmallsasha.com, trade-free.org/directory, or any other that you like, into the contacts page and just follow. You’ll get to see the posts in your feed whenever these websites post new stuff. How cool! You can also tweak the settings for each such website, individually. For example you can set up how frequently you get updates from them, if you want to get a notification when they post something new, or format how the posts should look like.
At times, if these websites support it, you can see their entire articles in you feed so no need to go to their websites. I recommend you select “fetch information and keywords” so you get to see their posts as a summary and link to the original article. And lastly, you can select to auo-reshare any of these websites’ posts on your profile if you wish. Or as your own posts.
Follow Twitter!
If you have a Twitter account, now is the time to never use twitter.com but use it through your Friendica. Go to Settings – Social Networks and click the Twitter tab. Connect to your Twitter (easy, a few seconds). Now you should choose “allow posting on twitter” and “import the remote timeline”. Why? Because now if you want to follow someone on Twitter, simply copy their twitter url, the entire thing, into the same contacts page and follow them. And you’ll see their posts in your timeline. Easy.
You can reply to these Twitter accounts from Friendica and interact with them from there. Super cool. I already follow a few Twitter accounts and works great.
Follow Facebook pages and more!
You cannot follow people/pages from Facebook in a “native” and interactive way, but there is a way you can do that when these are public. Go to our RSS-Bridge service here. Search for Facebook Bridge | Main Site. Now click “show more”. And add a Facebook page name that you want to follow as I showcase bellow. “username” is the page name.
Now click “Html”. You will be redirected to a new page where you can see the posts of that page as such.
Right click the Mrss and then Copy Link. That’s all. Now you have the RSS link of that Facebook page. Go to your contacts page and add it there. Then click “connect”. Same as adding any contacts or websites.
And that’s how you can follow Facebook pages or public profiles. Use that RSS-Bridge. You cannot comment/interact with these, but well…at least you can follow them. I suggested to Friendica-friendy developers to add the RSS-Bridge as an addon to Friendica, so that if you want to follow a user/page to be as easy as pasting the facebook URL into the “add new contact” form, and the rest is magic.
Follow the entire internet!
Follow Youtube, WordPress plugins updates, Wikipedia daily article or “did you know?”, VK pages, Vimeo, photos from Unsplash, you can even follow Twitter users and pages without an account or even follow hashtags….you can follow Telegram public groups, or when new stuff is added to the BitTorrent network (like say you want to know when a new episode from whatever documentary series you like, is available on torrents). Follow Sub-Reddits, or even PornHub; follow the latest releases on FDroid and sooo much more. I am telling you, this RSS-Bridge is amazing and you can use it as a proxy for connecting your Friendica to pretty much the entire internet.
So yah…slowly you can add up as much stuff to your friends/follows as you want. Create a stream of what you love from the entire Internet.
Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and the like, thought people that they should be spoon fed. You wait for them to feed you, and that led to a world where what you consume is always what these platforms are feeding you. And they do that based on their own interests, not yours. And you end up being unable to control that spoon ->>
It takes a bit of time to move to a place like Friendica. But not as much as you might think. However, you have to get used to feed yourself. Grab that spoon. Choose your food. You will see that it makes a huge difference in the long term.
SEE YOU ON FRIENDICA!

wtf is a connector?
Like if I install a connector for Bluesky, then does that allow me to just subscribe and see bluesky content in my friendica feed? Or does it allow me to post onto friendica posts found on bluesky? Or does it allow me to post onto bluesky my posts on friendica?
The docs don't make this clear what its for.
If I understand correctly, all three are possible, but I don't use it myself and only know these instructions in German. Here are the most important paragraphs (automatically) translated:
"Friendica allows you to make various settings. You therefore have the choice of whether and how you want to use the connection to Bluesky.
Even if the connection to Bluesky has been established and your contacts have been imported, this does not mean that all your Fediverse posts are automatically visible on Bluesky.
Friendica gives you the freedom to decide how deeply you want to integrate with Bluesky.
[ 1 ] ‘Publish to Bluesky by default’ - if this option is activated, every post will also be visible on Bluesky
[ 2 ] ‘Import the remote timeline’ - if this option is activated, all posts from the accounts you follow will be imported.
[ 3 ] ‘Complete the threads’ - if this option is activated, all comments on your posts and those of your contacts will be completed with additional comments.
Your connection to Bluesky is now established. Your timeline will now be filled with posts from the Fediverse and Bluesky.
You can now interact with your Bluesky contacts. For example, by entering a comment without opening the Bluesky app or browser window."

Meta Is blocking links to decentralized Instagram competitor Pixelfed
Meta is deleting links to Pixelfed, a decentralized Instagram competitor. On Facebook, the company is labeling links to Pixelfed.social as “spam” and deleting them immediately....
Bluesky user AJ Sadauskas originally posted that links to Pixelfed were being deleted by Meta; 404 Media then also tried to post a link to Pixelfed on Facebook. It was immediately deleted.
Pixelfed is experiencing a surge in user signups in recent days, after Meta announced that it would loosen its rules to allow users to call LGBTQ+ people “mentally ill” amid a host of other changes that shift the company overtly to the right. Meta and Instagram have also leaned heavily into AI-generated content. Pixelfed announced earlier Monday that it is launching an iOS app later this week.
Pixelfed said Sunday it is “seeing unprecedented levels of traffic to pixelfed.social.”

Oh, I have spent a LOT of time educating myself... Its the main reason I understand that China hasn't even been socialist since the 1970s or so, Russia hasn't been a socialist society since the late 1910's, and the way of the socialist revolution never starts with "Making a state bigger", because it almost immediately gets usurped for a new set of oligarchs that love using socialist words.

Ok, I’ll bite. What makes you think China is a communist state?
China is a socialist state that established the dictatorship of the working class, and that's governed by a Communist party that represents the interests of the working majority. Socialism is a transitional stage where the workers hold power in society, but capitalist have not yet been abolished. That's precisely the stage of development China finds itself in today.
How does one have “nations led by communists” that are fully state-capitalist societies?
I wonder what goes through your mind when you say state capitalism. Capitalism is a system where the means of production are privately owned, and people who own the means of production exploit the workers who sell their labor to increase their wealth. In contrast, state owned industry does not exist to create wealth for a capital owning class, and the work that's done has direct social value.

I don't think Kronstadt is a good example for your case. The Kronstadt mutiny happened during the Russian Civil War, while the Red Army was fighting off the Tsarist White Army, as well as 14 Capitalist countries that had invaded in order to destabilize the new Socialist State. Secondly, it was headed by Stepan Petrichenko, who had 1 year prior tried to join the Tsarist White Army.
Furthermore, Kronstadt was reported on by Western Media 2 weeks before it had happened, with enthusiastic support against the Socialist State. The "strike" involved arresting 300 Bolshevik officials, and threatening to execute 23 of them. Among their listed demands? Freedom of anti-Communism and purging of Communists from the factories and millitary. After it failed, Petrichenko fled and joined the White Army, finally fulfilling his goal of proving himself as a good anti-Communist and worthy of fighting to reinstate the Tsar.
Do you have a better example of an actual strike being slaughtered, and not a mutiny in the middle of a Civil War that was led by a Tsarist for the purposes of dismantling Socialism?
lol, ok.
It wasn't a "mutiny" it was a labor strike. And, speaking of which, how does a "Mutiny" happen in a classless society of liberated workers?
And it involved much more than just 300 arrests bro...
Again, can you explain how it was a labor strike when they arrested 300 Communists, threatened to execute 2 dozen of them, all at the command of someone who wanted to reinstate the Tsar, whose demands included purging Communists from the government and millitary?
Secondly, you're confirming that you don't think Marxism is Socialist. No Marxist has ever claimed that you even can abolish classes instantly, nor that the USSR managed to do so. Abolition of classes is a global phenomenon.
What of Marx have you read? I don't think it's a good idea to argue from a position you haven't studied.

The US government isn’t in charge of one of the largest social media platforms in the world. US corporations are absolutely doing this as well, but that’s an argument for more regulation not to grant China free reign
US-run social media apps are pretty much now just arms of the US surveillance state, functioning both as pro-US propaganda machines, and tools to spy on the communications of the entire world.
For example, the most popular social media app in India for example, is facebook. The US controls the main method of news and communication for a country much larger than its own.
Yeah, and...? Does that mean we ignore the one under CCP control because... why? It's not fair?
Also, I'm not questioning the data as it's clearly about when they began collecting data, but that chart looks a little... sketchy. Like you pulled it from your Great Aunt's Facebook feed in 2014. Where is the data from? That does not appear to be any kind of valid source I'm aware of in the corner. When was this made, and how much has changed since then?
Agreed that the chart looks hilariously fake, but it’s a real image from a 2013 leak by Edward Snowden on PRISM. I found that original image in this Guardian article: theguardian.com/world/2013/jun…
The Wikipedia article includes more discussion and context on the leak.

They're slides of internal US prism program documents from the 2010 US global surveillance disclosures that Snowden and Assange exposed: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PRISM#Th…

There's no reason to think the US government has stopped any of these programs. If anything, given the massive DoD budgets, they've increased.

The US most definitely uses its surveillance and propaganda system to influence the public. This was all exposed a long time ago.
The thought that Russia influences AOTUS is a conspiracy is probably one of the more bonker things I have ever heard though.
For sure stories were made up but anything short of of acknowledging that Russia has financially supported and heavily influenced everything about the current administration is pure conservatard garbage.

I am not sure what you were trying to express with that. Half the articles show how Trump has supported Russian interests to the detrament of the international community.
It is clear you have not even taken the time to read your own articles. I am guessing you push so much conservtard bullshit it is impossible to keep up with the lies.
There is no doubt Russia heavily influences Aotus. Just the simple matter of bank rolling him demonstrates all you need to know.

US corporations are absolutely doing this as well, but that’s an argument for more regulation not to grant China free reign
Exactly this. This is their only argument against it, and it's trash. Yeah, no shit, we know they are all doing it. Yes, we all agree that they should be dealt with as well.
expecting every citizen to be immune to psychological trickery from a nation spending tens of billions to research and test ways to trick them is unrealistic and unreasonable.
Trying to scrub all properganda from our lives is also impossible. Better to get a balanced media diet from a variety of sources.
Literally the only "argument" you people have.
"Wah, the other ones do it too!" yeah, no shit, and they should also be regulated. I don't think anyone here believes otherwise. Maybe, just maybe, it makes sense to prioritize the one that's under the control of a foreign adversary.
And even if you don't prioritize it, this is the one that we currently have the opportunity to regulate, so why would we refuse that just because we're not doing the same thing to the other ones RIGHT NOW? Once again allowing perfect to be the enemy of good.
Do you see now how that's not a real argument?
It's like if a student got caught cheating on a test, and complains that they shouldn't get an F, because "everyone else was cheating too." Were they cheating? Maybe. Is it relevant? Not at all.
Why on earth would the US government regulate its own propaganda and surveillance programs? Their goal is to control the narrative world-wide, and force-feed the world pro-US foreign policy positions.
Also, the US are the ones telling you that tiktok is doing the same thing that their companies are. You should take anything a serial liar says with an extreme grain of salt, and distrust it by default. There's no evidence that Chinese companies are doing what the US companies are.
I dunno... TikTok is the reason I now know about:
- Rosewood Massacre
- Black Wall St
- Tulsa Massacre
- 1985 MOVE Bombing
- Indigenous Customs for my neighboring nations
- Haluci Nation (An indigenous artist)
Just to name some highlights. These really could never gain traction on FB, enough to catch my attention. And then, lo and behold, we have Black and Brown content creators putting out good knowledge for those who just didn't know...
