Polischefen yrar om hur Sverige kan göras säkrare. Den organiserade brottsligheten, som nyttjas av främmande makt, är något som existerar idag. En verklighet som drabbar hela vårt samhälle här och nu.

i envy these people; i too want epiphanies or realizations about the propaganda i've been force fed all my life in a good way.
in reply to eldavi

It's such a historical moment. For the first time, millions of ordinary American workers are engaging directly with their Chinese comrades, uncovering the lies fed to them by their ruling class. This awakening is a blow to the imperialist propaganda machine and a step toward proletarian solidarity across borders.

I've greatly enjoyed FeedFlow ( github or the official site ) as my reader since it's minimalistic and just looks so polished. Almost fully cross platform as well.

Thanks for that recommendation! I use Aggregator News on mobile but that desktop client looks sexy.

Zsa Voyager vs MoErgo Glove80

The Voyager in its case (including a trackpad) is about ¼ the size of a Glove80 case.
Personally I think the Glove80 makes up for it in its ergonomics, but it does take up most of my backpack when commuting to the office.
in reply to vext01

True, true. I am very close to getting a Voyager for that use case, and for experimenting with different switches, etc, since its easier. I also think the QMK-based configuration the Glove uses is more powerful than the Voyager's system, but harder to use.
in reply to rwdf

I was very hesitant to buy because these keyboards are eye wateringly expensive (although not as much as the maltron), but I'm pleased with the purchase.

Took a while to get used to layers, but overall a positive experience.

I did get burned by £35 import tax. Oh well.

Sweden starts building 100,000 year storage site for spent nuclear fuel

FORSMARK, Sweden, Jan 15 (Reuters) - Sweden started building a final storage facility for spent nuclear fuel on Wednesday, only the second such site in the world, where highly radioactive waste will be stored for 100,000 years.

How to store deadly radioactive waste until it is safe is a question that has dogged the nuclear industry since commercial reactors began operating in the 1950s.

Finland is the only country close to completing a permanent storage site.

Finland has been "close to completing" their storage site at Olkiluoto for quite a long time now. Let's see when they finally get it into production. I wouldn't hold my breath.
in reply to geneva_convenience

Not a scientist or anything, but from what I've read there are already reactors that use this waste developer. Why aren't we using those reactors? Do they also leave waste behind?
in reply to UltraGiGaGigantic

To my knowledge there exists exactly one reactor in china, and this test project. We know very little about it. I have seen many many talk in the last 10ish years but for such a "break trough idea" very very little actual physical proof for any of the big claima.

Edit: Wikipedia article of said reactor: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/TMSR-L…

France did have a commercial scale fast breeder reactor, Superphénix.

Technology reshared this.

Death toll in Israeli strikes on Gaza rises to 77 since ceasefire deal, residents say

DOHA/CAIRO/JERUSALEM, Jan 16 (Reuters) - Israel airstrikes killed at least 77 people in Gaza overnight on Thursday, residents and authorities in the enclave said, hours after a ceasefire and hostage release deal was announced to bring an end to 15 months of war between Israel and Hamas.

The complex ceasefire accord emerged on Wednesday after mediation by Qatar, Egypt and the U.S. to stop the war that has devastated the coastal territory and inflamed the Middle East.

The deal, scheduled to be implemented from Sunday, outlines a six-week initial ceasefire with the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip, where tens of thousands have been killed. Hostages taken by militant group Hamas, which controls the enclave, would be freed in exchange for Palestinian prisoners detained in Israel.

in reply to geneva_convenience

How will it take to reach this number once the cease-fire begins? I'm guessing less than a month.

they probably asked for unlimited free refills the concessions at my highschool had that but we sure had to fight for it

Mao Zedong - On "Brainwashing"

cross-posted from: lemmy.ml/post/24853237

Some foreigners say that our ideological reform is brainwashing. As I see it, they are correct in what they say. It is washing brains, that’s what it is! This brain of mine was washed to become what it is. After joining the revolution, it was slowly washed, washed for several decades.

What I received before was all bourgeois education, and even some feudal education.

Its such a weird expression right, i wonder where it originates from. There is a non zero chance that its related to europeans famously being allergic to taking showers, thus "washing" is seen as a bad thing.
in reply to 小莱卡

I've always heard it in the context of manchurian candidate 1950s-era mind control shenanigans, but it seems to predate that. Wouldn't surprise me if it has to do with westerners historically hating washing.

I just read "Isn’t China revisionist for having a capitalist sector of the economy, and working with capitalists? Why isn’t it fully planned like the USSR was? ", and it made so much sense. Thanks for sharing. I'm going to read the rest soon.

A proposal for a typographic symbol (⁂) to represent the Fediverse

⁂ is called an asterism. In astronomy, it refers to groups of stars in the sky, akin to constellations. We suggest that it’s a very fitting symbol for the fediverse, a galaxy of interconnected spaces which is decentralised and has an astronomically-themed name. It represents several stars coming together, connecting but each their own, without a centre.

Thank you very much! It works now!!!!!!!! I used the disable-gpp0-wakeup service workaround from here. Unfortunately, I can't wake my computer with the keyboard or mouse, only with the power button, but I'll figure that out on my own.

Thank you so much for pointing out the issue.

🚀 "My year of Fediverse explorations"

1) Microblogging: Mastodon
2) Photo sharing: Pixelfed
3) A social blog: ActivityPub Wordpress Plugin
4) Beyond microblogging: Friendica
5) Content Aggregators: Lemmy, PieFed & Mbin
6) Beautiful and fun microblogging: Sharkey
7) Self-hosting with GoToSocial

"Looking ahead at 2025

What do I plan to do in 2025?

My enthusiasm for the Fediverse keeps growing with each passing day. In the coming weeks, I plan to write about:

  • my experiences self-hosting with GoToSocial
  • PeerTube (the Fediverse’s alternative to YouTube)
  • The Friends plugin for Wordpress by Alex Kirk, which allows you to put your Wordpress site at the center of your online activities
  • Mobilizon: a Fediverse project that helps you find, create and organize events
  • Matrix.org: a Fediverse-adjacent open network for secure, decentralized communications

And so much more! There are several Fediverse projects like Hubzilla and Pleroma that I keep hearing about and have yet to try."--

in reply to caos

"activitypub wordpress plugin" three words that don't belong together .
I want to blog on the fediverse, but i don't want wordpress.
in reply to Skeezix

I haven’t used it myself, but I’ve seen Ghost mentioned as a great alternative to Wordpress.

in reply to Skeezix

You may also use one of the Fediverse macroblogging services for blogging: Friendica and Hubzilla allow you to write and design texts without a character limit. WriteFreely and Plume are also available specifically for blogging.
in reply to Skeezix

It works well though 🤷‍♂️
in reply to Skeezix

Me neither, but a lot of folks do (or at least think they do), and if this makes it an approachable gateway into the larger fediverse for them, I'm all for it.

They can always switch to something better, later.

Det drabbar dem på flera sätt. De måste flytta sitt fiske. Kanske kan de inte landa där de är vana vid att landa.
