Trump Tower Moscow, Rare Earths and Geopolitical Perks: How the Kremlin Plans to Bait Trump Into a Grand Bargain

in reply to Nemeski

“The main thing is that they [the Americans] don't interfere in our affairs and don't tell us how to live,” said a senior Russian official familiar with the Kremlin’s negotiating logic. “That they don’t hinder us in doing what we are doing.”

That being invading and subjugating weaker neighbours.

German teens denied entry to US for traveling ‘under false pretenses’ and ‘intended to work’: Border Patrol

The teens claimed CBP targeted them because they hadn’t booked hotels for their entire stay in Hawaii.

“They found it suspicious that we hadn’t fully booked our accommodations for the entire five weeks in Hawaii,” Pohl said. “We wanted to travel spontaneously. Just like we had done in Thailand and New Zealand.”

and are still way better than China

Oh man, I have news for you. As a UK/Australian citizen I would genuinely feel much more at ease travelling to China tomorrow than the US.

That is not a recent change either.

The US has a very scary reputation worldwide for its psychotic police force and guns everywhere.

I have been to China before, just as a no-fuss tourist. I detected no edge, and had a fun time.

If this makes no sense, you have the cognitive abilities of a shovel, and I won't be wasting my time.

First draft woes

in reply to Cattail

So you are basically building a classifier that tries to assert if a user will like a video. While many are against any kind of "algorithm" within the fediverse, I believe that it's a necessity. But, I think allowing users to tag content and then building classifiers that allow you to filter based on that would be a more aligned with the fediverse.

Anyway, cosine similarity has worked for a lot of things, so I think it's a solid foundation to get you started. Another thing you can try is using an embedding model, specifically a model that receives a segment of a video and yields a matrix with the property that similar input will result in outputs relatively close to each other (cosine or euclidean distance).

Another thing to consider is building a platform that will permanently store data. If you can come up with a set of endpoints, I can implement something in python to get ypu started. I don't have experience with video processing so I cannot help you with that, but the crud aspect is no biggie.

in reply to souperk

I did make a classier for for videos that inputs title, tags, description, and closed caption into an LLM. I got roughly 1000 entries classified that way, issue is that most of them were non-english videos and then new videos come from somewhere on peertube that don't hace these classifiers.

Video processing is cool just expensive computationally. Also watchers could classify the videos themselves then use a cosine similarity (or whatever algo) on that. I did suggest to peertube to share the categories people say a video is with other people (like it's a Mastodon post) eventually it morphed into an idea light weight peertube instance that only does api.

in reply to Cattail

I think it needs to work across instances, since we're concerned wit the Fediverse and federation is one of the defining mechanics. Also when I have a look at my subscriptions, they come from a variety of instances. So I don't think a single instance feature would be of any use for me.

Sure. And with the cosine similarity, you'd obviously need to suppress already watched videos. Obviously I watched them and the algorithm knows, but I'd like it to recommend new videos to me.

Help

So, im IP banned from lemmy.world? Or is this cloudflare or smth locking me out? How do I proceed?

I have wanted to leave .world for a while, probably in favour of dbzero, but I would still at least like to delete my account and/or download some data beforehand?

I don't think I did anything wrong, and believe it is a cloudflare thing, but how will I contact the mods, if I cant open their front page to find their emails? Anyways. Any help is appreciated.

Also, sorry if this is the wrong community, but its the only one I know that maybe can help?

Edit 1: I can access the instance if I use a VPN, but I still dont know what to do. This kinda confirms it is cloudflare, but how can I get off their "naughty list"?

Edit the last: it seems to have solved itself after some time. I just used tgis instance for a while, and now its working again.

Cloudflare doesn't really have a straightforward way as an end-user to see detailed information about their blocks and such. But I'd recommend checking your IP on Project Honeypot, CF utilizes such lists for some of their WAF stuff.
in reply to kungen

It is listed there as a mail server with fraudulent activity. I am behind a CGNAT, soaybe I should ask my ISP for a new IP?

First House Republican calls for Pete Hegseth's ouster

Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.) on Monday became the first Republican member of Congress to openly indicate support for Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth's removal from office.

Why it matters: Hegseth is under fire for a series of scandals including the departures of several of his top officials at the Pentagon and new reporting about his use of Signal to discuss sensitive information.

This asshole was confirmed by Congress not long ago. He was a fucking fool from the get go, yet got confirmed. They can complain all they want, it's their fault!
in reply to MicroWave

There are already articles out about the administration wanting to get rid of him. This isn't bravery and shouldn't be lauded as such. This is some toady seeing what's going on and being like "That's right, boss! Great idea, boss!"

‘F-CK YOU’: NANCY MACE LOSES IT IN PUBLIC ARGUMENT WITH CONSTITUENT

The level of discourse from people like Nancy Mace is indicative of the cancerous anger and shamelessness running through the Republican Party. What an embarrassment for someone in a position of power to be proud of not keeping their composure.
in reply to Veedem

What a piece of trash. Why do we keep giving people like this power? She’s a bigot and a narcissist.

Russian attack that left bodies scattered on city streets is not a ‘mistake’ — it’s a strategy

Donald Trump described Russia’s double ballistic missile strike on the Ukrainian city of Sumy that killed 35 and wounded 117 as a “mistake” by the Russians.

But it’s no such thing.

The Sunday attack on Sumy, like the April 4 strike on Kryvyi Rih, where a Russian ballistic missile filled with cluster munitions killed 20 people and wounded 80, is actually part of a Russian military strategy. The aim is to terrorize the civilian population and turn them against the Ukrainian military and government, forcing them to sue for peace with Moscow.

Is this the same fatigue that Trump feels when fact checkers are present? He's always annoyed because the fact checkers frequently pipe up to correct him, but apparently it hasn't occurred to him they would be silent if he told the truth.

Haiti nearing ‘point of no return’ amid gang violence, UN representative warns

Haiti, where rampant gang violence has surged in recent weeks, is approaching a “point of no return” leading to “total chaos”, the UN special representative to the troubled Caribbean nation has warned.

“As gang violence continues to spread to new areas of the country, Haitians experience growing levels of vulnerability and increasing skepticism about the ability of the state to respond to their needs,” María Isabel Salvador told the UN securitycouncil.

“Haiti could face total chaos,” she said, adding that international aid was desperately needed to avoid that fate. “I urge you to remain engaged and answer the urgent needs of the country and its people.”

Salvador cited cholera outbreaks and gender-based violence alongside a deteriorating security situation, particularly in the capital, Port-au-Prince, with authorities struggling to cope.

Banned DDT discovered in Canadian trout 70 years after use, research finds

in reply to HellsBelle

150 year half-life in aquatic environments.

Also, just because it’s not officially used doesn’t mean it’s not unofficially used; I’m sure there were some barrels that went missing here and there.

India continues to manufacture it and China only stopped in 2007.

in reply to CompactFlax

I have a friend who's grandfather was a chemist who at least claimed to his family that he mixed up small batches of DDT for mosquito control on his property.

I have no way of verifying that, but I wouldn't be entirely surprised if some rogue chemist with a vendetta against mosquitos was out there doing it.

in reply to CompactFlax

My grandpa was farming in Saskatchewan during those years and he regularly used DDT. He died in '68 of colon cancer.

It was a time when regulation and testing was not good and companies were just throwing stuff onto the market. Which explains some of the soil & water toxicity problems we're facing now.
