Just saw this by chance: Donations and Patrons for Lemmy development surged massively on Liberapay in the last weeks!

Don't know what the exact cause was/is for this big surge - but I am glad to see it. No matter what personal problems people may have with the main devs, they are doing great work on the platform.

join-lemmy.org/donate

liberapay.com/Lemmy

Also of interest, since this is a good place to plug things, other threadiverse things:

liberapay.com/PieFed/

And I couldn't find a way to donate to mbin, in lieu of that:

docs.joinmbin.org/contributing…

EDIT: The creator of mbin gave a link in the comments: melroy.org/donate.html

They openly allow calls for the death of all americans while banning anyone who critizises the people calling for genocide.

Here I talk about getting banned from ML lemmy.world/post/20389892

Terroristic threats allowed on lemmy.ml!?!

A hexbear user calls for the death of me and all Americans! I reported It to dessalines, but as of posting all hes done was delete my post where I called them out! It seems like death-threats by communists are ok, but calling them silly back is impolite...

i said i dont like hamas and they called me faschist and banned me...

Trump DOJ plan would let it indict lawmakers who opposed him with no oversight

According to a bombshell report from the Washington Post, the Department of Justice under Attorney General Pam Bondi is considering a plan that would let federal prosecutors investigate and indict members of Congress unfettered by traditional oversight designed to stop political persecution.

Traditionally, before such an investigation could proceed, a prosecutor would have their case reviewed by the lawyers in the Justice Department’s Public Integrity Section. But that would go away under the new proposal.

The report notes that, should the proposal go into effect, "a long-standing provision in the Justice Department’s manual that outlines how investigations of elected officials should be conducted" would be shunted aside and allow possible prosecutions based purely on politics.

I'm sure they won't regret doing this when the shoe is on the other foot

If Trump wants the world to keep buying his debt, he might be advised to stop punching the world in the face.

I wonder if Trump doesn't understand the importance of fostering good will because he just doesn't have any himself?

in reply to manxu

He doesn't have any, and that's probably due to how he was brought up. I get the impression there wasn't a lot of love going around in the Trump household.
in reply to floofloof

Yeah. Apparently his mom didn't really give a shit about him and his siblings and the only way that he could win his Nazi dad's approval was by bullying the others.

To quote : evil is a relay sport when the one who's burned turns to pass the torch

in reply to manxu

Always a bully and no one ever stood up to him and laid him out on his ass. That one thing could have made all the difference in history.
in reply to MuskyMelon

But he keeps getting away with it. And as long as he does, he'll keep getting worse.

in reply to VITecNet

More propaganda.. We have never had a more Authoritarian power as the Western 'liberal/Globalist' power. But they apparently have a lot of success convincing uneducated people that THEY are freedom/democracy, while anyone else is 'Dictators' and 'Evil'. Childish and sad..

Trump have the exact same policies as everyone before him - not more, or less 'Authoritarian than all the DEMS that did exactly the same as Trump. All ordinary people should really include some criticism of Liberalism/Globalism, and follow criticism of the Empire known as 'The Empire of Lies' (not without reason).

For those that have started to sense the cracks in the Western Narrative, maybe that Russia and China seem to be fine countries, and are interested in understanding what is happening in the world, start by watching Brian Berletic on Youtube. The rest will follow..

in reply to VITecNet

Basically yes. Vertical organization is the default fallback to organize ourself in groups, since it worked mostly fine in the groups of up to 150 people for most of our evolution.

Biden diagnosed with ‘aggressive form’ of prostate cancer

Former President Joe Biden was diagnosed with an “aggressive form” of prostate cancer, according to a statement from his personal office Sunday, and it has spread to his bones.

“Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms. On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone,” the statement said.

I wonder how many people his support of genocide killed. But we're supposed to care about him or wish him well? No. I dont think I will.
in reply to RememberTheApollo_

So this guy had cancer his whole presidency and wanted to go for a second term? Imagine he had won and then dies at the first 2 months.

Jesus Christ that's insane. It's like he hated the country or something

in reply to Shardikprime

Would have been an easy way to get our first black woman as president, if he'd won.
in reply to chronicledmonocle

There's a video of Gerald Ford talking to a class of middle-schoolers, and one asks if a women will ever become president, and he says that will absolutely happen, but he doesn't think the first woman president will be elected. He felt she would be the VP, and the president would die, and she'd succeed him. After that, he didn't think it would be a problem electing a woman president.

I thought that was a pretty insightful take on the subject, and probably true.

in reply to Shardikprime

And instead you have someone that hates the country and sadly has no cancer...

in reply to jeffw

For those that don't know, forced reset triggers (and the later "super safeties") are quite essentially machine gun conversion devices in all but our narrow techno-legal definition of a machine gun. Much more straightforward to use than bump stocks or crank triggers are. Any sane government would have pulled these off the market immediately and arrested anyone who distributed them. Instead the ATF approved them for sale and then walked it back after the fact, hence this legal battle.

Militia prepper types are basically saying the use case for these is for squad-level fire support, the same way militaries use machine guns. But then they'll gaslight you and say it isn't a machine gun, but also all machine guns should be unregulated.

This entry was edited (7 months ago)
in reply to Carmakazi

The law operates on precise definitions.

Obviously the forced-reset trigger has pretty much the same effect as a machine gun and common sense suggests that the two should have the same legal status. They don't though because 26 U.S.C. § 5845(b) defines a machine gun as:

Any weapon which shoots, is designed to shoot, or can be readily restored to shoot, automatically more than one shot without manual reloading, by a single function of the trigger

and a firearm with a forced reset trigger does require a separate actuation of the trigger for each shot. It is the place of the congress, not the ATF to update the law.

in reply to Zak

This is why in the realm of drug law there is the concept of analogue illegality. As in one cant just take crack or whatever, modify it by one molecule, and then sell it legally just because it isnt crack anymore on a technical basis. Its overall similarity to crack, molecularly and in terms of functionality, makes it as illegal as crack

If you think having a force reset trigger is the same as having a full auto rifle, maybe you shouldn't comment on gun legislation.

One person dead and five injured after car explodes near IVF facility in Palm Springs

Police say explosion outside American Reproductive Centers fertility clinic was ‘an intentional act of violence’

At least one person is dead after a car exploded near a reproductive facility in Palm Springs, California, according to local authorities.

Palm Springs Police spokesperson Mike Villegas told reporters the car explosion was “an intentional act of violence” but the investigation is ongoing.

Officials did not immediately say whether or not the person who died was associated with the car, but a facility official said all of the building’s staff were safe and physically unharmed.

At least also five people were injured in the explosion, ABC7 reported, citing law enforcement sources.

Half a million march to Downing Street to urge Starmer to cut ties with Israel

in reply to Peter Link

It's absurd how many governments are more loyal to Israel than their own citizens.
in reply to gradual

Many governments around the world bought Pegasus from Israel to spy on their citizens and the opposition, helping them to stay in power: including India, Poland, Hungary, Mexico, Spain, and Thailand. Doesn't make much sense to speak against those who give you tools keeping you in power, does it?

Trump Is Building a Global Gulag for Immigrants Captured by ICE

And soon, not just immigrants. If your neighbor goes missing, be a human and look after their pets.
in reply to Peter Link

It’s not inconceivable that foreign nations will use the USA as a sort of dumping ground for undesirables - if they can be reliably pipelined to CECOT in El Salvador, it is a way of laundering humans. Of trafficking to the point of disappearance.

in reply to MuskyMelon

This likelihood makes me more angry than nearly anything else he's done. Unlike most other changes this cruel buffoon has made, selling off our land to private industry is permanent.

Where other people would look upon the majesty of public lands in awe, he only sees a wasted opportunity to make money. This cancer on our society has a voracious black hole where his heart would be. He is incurious, stupid, and utterly devoid of any values.

Do us all a favor and just walk into the ocean until you can't see land.

in reply to MuskyMelon

They've been selling it to the oligarchs for decades.

Dems and Republicans are sides of the same coin: conservatives.

Correct, I'm more so speaking broadly. Since the ATF is the ones that handle the tax stamp for them. I wasn't exactly trying to go into specifics on the topic. Just that the ATF is the ones doing the song and dance now with the NFA being its "fuck you" paper.

RFK Jr. is a tumor festering in the US government. If you encountered a character as comically evil and ugly as this thing in a tv show, you’d make fun of the terrible writing. He is beyond parody, and doesn’t deserve to be engaged intellectually. He only deserves ridicule, parody, and if needed, a level of violence commensurate with the danger he and his demented policies pose to the general public.

I’m confused and feel like this title is misleading:

The Novavax vaccine was previously only allowed to be used in emergencies. Meanwhile, the FDA gave full approval to vaccines by Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna in 2022 under the Biden administration. Both companies are producing updated versions of their vaccines for the fall.

It seems to only be for the Novavax vaccine, and it was already restricted, but this article doesn’t say why. Don’t get me wrong, RFK is a fool, but it doesn’t look like he’s keeping people from getting the Moderna or Pfizer vaccines, and the one he is restricting was already restricted for undefined reasons.

I feel like if it was easy for him to get rid of the existing ones, he probably would..

Tho he got his kids vaxed and refused to answer if he’d do it again so there’s some chance he’s just being a disingenuous prick and fucking over millions for personal gain.. wouldn’t put that past a single “conservative”

(Wild how in the wider world conservation means protecting things that exist, while American conservatism actively seeks to destroy everything that has existed for decades.. wild…)

His kids are all in the 20s-30s. They very well could have insisted on getting vaccinated themselves.

Predicting it now:

This aid will only be allowed into the south of Gaza. Between food and a ground assault, they'll have the carrot and the stick to push Palestinians out of the north, which they'll then ~~annex~~ "occupy indefinately".

Top genocide scholars unanimous that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza: Dutch investigation

A growing number of the world’s leading genocide scholars believe that Israel’s actions in Gaza constitute genocide, according to an investigation by Dutch newspaper NRC.

The paper interviewed seven renowned genocide researchers* from six countries - including Israel - all of whom described the Israeli campaign in Gaza as genocidal. Many said their peers in the field share this assessment.

“Contrary to public opinion, leading genocide researchers are surprisingly unanimous: the Netanyahu government, they say, is in that process - according to the majority, even in its final stages,” the investigation concluded. “That is why most researchers no longer speak only of 'genocidal violence', but of 'genocide'.”

in reply to IndustryStandard

Doesn't take a scholar to know its genocide.....called common sense. Which seems to be lacking in the world especially in America.
