No aid has reached Palestinians in Gaza yet, despite Israeli claim of delivery
No aid has reached Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip as of Wednesday, despite Israeli claims that dozens of trucks have entered.
Since 2 March, Israel has enforced a total blockade on Gaza, preventing any food, medical supplies, or goods from entering the besieged enclave.
On Sunday, Israel stated it would allow a “basic amount of food” into Gaza for what it described as “diplomatic reasons” aimed at easing international pressure that could force an end to the ongoing war.
The Israeli military claimed that over 90 aid lorries have entered the strip this week. However, sources inside Gaza told Middle East Eye trucks remain stalled on the Palestinian side of the Karem Abu Salem (Kerem Shalom) crossing.

German police arrest teenage neo-Nazis for alleged attacks on migrants
Group calling itself ‘Last Defence Wave’ had recruited other teens online and promoted ‘extremist terrorism’
German police have staged early morning raids against an alleged far-right “terrorist” cell on suspicion of attacks against asylum seekers and political enemies, arresting five teenage suspects, federal prosecutors have said.
The operation on Wednesday targeting a neo-Nazi group calling itself “Last Defence Wave” marked the latest high-profile action against groups Germany says are working to destabilise its democratic order.
Four of those arrested – named only as Benjamin H, Ben-Maxim H, Lenny M and Jason R, in line with German privacy rules – are suspected of membership of a “domestic terror organisation”. The fifth, Jerome M, is accused of supporting the group.
Two of the suspects are accused of attempted murder and aggravated arson. All five are German citizens between the ages of 14 and 18.

In Germany it isn't just Gen Z. Ten years ago there were also thousands of arson and other attacks on refugee shelters or families assumed to be refugees living in flats.
In the 00s a Nenonazi terror group likely supported by the interior intelligence went around murdering "foreigners" in their shops and planting bombs.
The 90s are infamously called "baseball bat years" because of extensive Nazi violence, beating up people in the streats, arson, bomb attacks, murdering people.
In 2022 there was a bomb attack on the party office of the Left Party in a town in western Germany. Police wanted to stop the investigation and only with strong pressure went to investigate again.
Between 2010 and 2020 there was a series of arson and other attacks in Berlin, among other things a local politician luckily escaping death with his family as his car was torched in the garage. Again the police and prosecutors showed to have ties to the terrorists and investigations remained lackluster despite local activists and the press knowing the likely suspects.
In 2019 a Neonazi tried to massacre Jewish people in a synagogue in Halle and instead went to a kebab store to murder two people as the door of the synagogue was locked.
In 2016-2019 there was multiple scandals with police officers stealing ammunition and funneling it to Neonazi terror groups....
This has nothing to do with Gen Z. Fascism and violent Neonazism are an issue in all generations in Germany.

Japan minister bows out over rice gaffe
A rice remark cost Japan's agriculture minister his job amid a price crisis that Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba's government is grappling with.
Japan's Agriculture Minister Taku Eto announced his resignation on Wednesday following backlash over an inappropriate comment about rice.
Eto came under fire earlier this week after stating that he had "never had to buy rice" because supporters gave it to him, a remark that sparked public outrage amid a national rice shortage and soaring prices.
Rice is a staple food in Japan, and Eto's comment struck a nerve in a country where retail rice prices have doubled since last year.

Aide to Ukraine's ex-President Yanukovych shot dead in Spain
Andrii Portnov, a former member of parliament in Ukraine, was sanctioned by the US over corruption allegations. He was shot dead outside a school in Madrid.
Spain's Interior Ministry on Wednesday said Andrii Portnov, an adviser to former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, was killed outside a school in Madrid.
According to the police, they received a call about the shooting of a Ukrainian citizen near the elite American School of Madrid in Pozuelo de Alarcón at 9:15 a.m. local time (0715 GMT).
Police said Portnov was shot multiple times in the head and back by more than one gunman while getting into a vehicle. The attackers then fled toward a forested area, police added.

Portnov was a piece of shit. Russian collaborator.
I would rather he was extradited, all his assets seized and he would be required to do several decades community service work (live-in janitor in a hospice centre or de-mining work, community service work in Chernobyl would work too).

How so? You do realize regular people work in the Chernobyl zone (for pay, they are not forced).
Same with de-mining work. There are military and police forces who are doing de-mining as part of their duties.

While I agree with you that as Ukrainian law stands today that would not be viable, I don't see how I am being unethical.
Portniv knowingly (in a premeditated and genuine manner) contributed to mass killing and torture of Ukrainians at the hands of the russians (not to mention the mass scale destruction and life disruption for 10s of millions). Requiring community for a few decades is not a breach of ethics in any way.
It depends on your view of ethics.
Exactly! If you have a superficial view of ethics that does not account for reality, you will have a very simplistic view. If you are willing to look at what is actually happening on the ground, you will have a more sophisticated understanding of ethics that goes beyond theatrics.
The issue of collaboration is very a complex topic. There are many cases where low level collaboration (if motivated by factors other than support for russian genocidal imperialism) should likely be dealt with a simple affidavit requiring the individual to confirm that should ideological motivation for collaboration be identified at future date, they will have problems.
With Portnov, there is no complexity. It is a clear cut case. Open and committed treason and support for russian genocidal imperialism.
When you are a smaller country fighting for centuries against a brutal genocidal imperialist population, you need to act in a manner that greatly reduces the incentives for high level collaboration.
My man, I don't know how much you've travelled/lived around the world, but in many places the calculus for making a living has its own equations.
Working in Chernobyl has a massive pay differential for the same job compared to the rest of the country. Some people are desperate.
Not at all.
For you this is all theoretical. My priority is dealing with the russian invasion and that is why I support increasing the costs for collaborators.
That doesn't mean I support torture or targeting civilians even if the overwhelming majority of russian civilians are committed genocidal imperialists and generally lack humanity.
But you are welcome to believe whatever you want. Just sharing a different perspective.
War crimes if you force enemy soldiers to do it. Technically forcing enemy soldiers to do anything at all is a war crime.
Not war crimes if it's community service ordered by a judge due to conviction for crimes committed by the subject.

Of course they fucking did. Probably assumed it was the least worst option, but it wasn't like there was any reason to go along with any nomination because their votes weren't needed and it isn't like Republicans reciprocate.

The difference is that basically anyone nominated after Rubio would be worse. He's basically the best person put forward by this admin, as sorry as that is.
Sounds more like damage control than much else. That they have to do because, you know, America thought they didn't have to bother voting dem because it's whatever. Hence gestures around
If zero Dems voted for Rubio then Rubio would still be in the same position but the Dems wouldn't look like jackasses for giving him votes. It wasn't damage control, it was a self goal.
How is rolling over for the Republicans going to work for them in the next election?
Maybe it wasn't that then. I don't say I support it but I'm guessing they were thinking (old school) that if they voted for someone who of course they don't like but is actually a somewhat serious candidate that the Republicans would respond by nominating more like that.
But again, that kind of thinking is still going on in the Dem party and obviously outdated. One would think they'd learn that there is no give and take with this batch of Republicans. At all.

That's not how it went down, the Republicans complained Obama would just pick a far left activist judge and specifically called out Merrick Garland as a "reasonable moderate" candidate that he should choose, so he did. Obama didn't have the votes in the Senate to have whoever he wanted so he called the Republicans bluff, picked Garland, and then Mitch McDemonturtle started his "it's an election year" song and dance as cover for why they weren't going to allow a vote. Mitch was the Senate majority leader so he had control over what the Senate did as far as what votes were allowed to be taken up. There wasn't anything Obama could do but nominate someone, then it's up to the Senate to confirm.
Just as Trump got his pick because Mitch McDemonturtle has no fucking morals, he was still in charge of the Senate at that time and so even though the 2020 election was in progress he forced a vote asap so they got their pick... They're such hypocritical pricks

I know Poe's law and all, but surely no-one could think that was serious.
This is MAGA-type thinking you're demonstrating. Democrats massively fucked up the 2024 election. It is important that those lessons be studied, learned from, and not repeated. Yes, Trump is worse, but that's completely irrelevant to the conversation at hand. We have another Trump term precisely because of the mistakes the DNC made during the election. Failing to listen to those mistakes doesn't help Democrats, and it doesn't help the country. Failing to learn from the mistakes of 2016 and 2020 are how we ended up with 2024 after all.
Do not for a second think Trump or some other MAGA candidate cannot win in 2028. Regardless of how bad Trump governs, even ignoring the potential for election shenanigans, it is entirely possible that Trump will win again in 2028. And every person that sticks their fingers in their ears and ignores all criticism of elected Democrats makes that event all the more likely.
Democrats ran on "we're not Trump" in 2016, 2020, and 2024. That strategy lost them both 2016 and 2024, and it would have lost them 2020 if not for covid.
Yet here you are, still trying the same tired "we're not Trump" strategy. You're clearly insane, as you keep trying the same thing again and again, expecting a different result.
