I can't agree on the first part. He does have opinions that he expresses quite plainly on many topics besides gun control.
The second part is so true it's not even funny.
Harris had Liz Cheney on stage with her. Liz Cheney is a monster, and we courted her. It only drove actual potential voters on the left away.
There aren't any sane Republicans to court. Stop with the Overton window bullshit. Stop trying to meet the sociopath by choice movement in the middle. It's been racing us to the doom we're sitting in for as long as I've been alive. We need to elect an enemy of the capital markets on no uncertain terms. Someone that would enslave our economy to exist in service to the needs of the citizenry as it always should have been, because corporations aren't people, and should not exist if they are serving few or one at the expense of the rest of the citizenry. It should be the corporate burden to prove why it should exist at all by showing how society is better off because of it. Given the power theyve shown they will always accumulate and abuse, I'm for a perpetual corporate death penalty on a hair trigger for the slightest of antisocial activity.
If we don't make an extreme move left from this fascist hellscape, it's all just rearranging deck chairs.
If by some miracle we have another free election, managing to elect another neoliberal to move the Democrats closer to the Fascists as they have for 50 years will just keep the table set for the fascists to march again in another 4. Fascism is the union of the state and big business, the only thing the Neoliberals don't add to that stew is the cruelty and scapegoating as the people are robbed blind, they save that special sauce for their esteemed opposition, but they are both all about mass homelessness, and entire economic sectors murdering Americans when it's profitable in state sanctioned confidence schemes like our deathcare system. Thats neoliberal and fascist bipartisan supported and defended from we the people.
The capital markets must be dismantled with extreme prejudice, any value redistributed in order of the worst off aka the capitalists greatest victims who they haven't yet murdered, with currency retied to labor or active stake (working at) in a company/cooperative. If we refuse to do that, highly likely, nothing can improve and get comfortable in misery and cruelty.
WTF!? David Hogg is a fighter, he fought the injustice of school shootings fiercely and brilliantly. And for the first time ever NRA was seriously shaken very much due to the Parkland survivors.
It's very obvious why he is frustrated by Wall Street democrats, if you haven't noticed USA could literally lose their democracy by the bad decisions and inaction of democrats, allowing MAGA to bulldozer over everything without resistance.

The stupid thing is that the unified West had no reason to fear Putin's hollow threats until Trump started doing everything he can to destroy what makes the West strong. He wants to roll over in front of Russia and make the US Putin's bitch.
The West won't roll over like him though. They'll strengthen their alliances against Russia and will become something far stronger. It just won't involve the US anymore.

Mr Trump pledged to end the war on “day one” of his presidency. And as the conflict drags on, the giant question mark hovering over western Europe is how long it will take for the US to make good on its promise.
Why do journalists insist in taking Trump's "promises" seriously in any capacity? An otherwise good article tainted by these two ridiculous fucking sentences. He won't make good on his promise because he is incapable due to being fucking terrified of Putin the thing the fucking article is about.
However, she is equally scathing of European leaders for not coming to terms with this new reality sooner. “The fact that the Europeans are so shocked by his deference to Putin actually shows that they haven’t also done their homework,” she said.
She even literally spells it out later in the article but I guess the journalist wasn't listening.

You got it: call them out to their stupid faces when they lie. They don’t do this so they can maintain their precious “access.” How well did they work out for non right wing shitbags this time around?..

I thought the pee tape didn't exist either, but then a Russian Call Girl was able to place Manafort on Russian Oligarch Derapaska's yacht, because she was there, and then she claimed to be the person that brokered the underage prostitutes in the Pee Video. Her story about Manafort on the yacht turned out to be true, and Manafort was convicted, so she seems to have some credibility.
For those who don't know what the Pee Pee Tape really is, supposedly HitlerPig was gifted a couple of underage prostitutes, and he wanted them to pee on the bed that the Obamas slept in when they visited Moscow as president.
Apparently they didn't pee on him, so it isn't that sort of kompromat. It's more him directing the scene, and taking great pleasure in them peeing on a bed that Obama happened to sleep in once. Weird.
If Putain has anything on Hitlerpig that Hitlerpig is legitimately embarrassed or afraid of, then it must be legitimately bad/evil. My money is on kids being involved....
Not really a shocker for me tbh, most Americans that I met (and I worked in several US companies so I met some) were insecure loudmouths. Sure some of them were very good at their job but when talking to them they behaved like they invented hot water.
I'm contrast, in my part of the world we have a saying which translated would be "shuts up and does/makes".
Until now Putin did, Trump on the other hand is just making noise.
Putin, who has maintained the same “tight team” of top diplomats around him for the past 25 years, dispatched his Stanford-educated economic adviser Kirill Dmitriev, former ambassador to Washington Yuri Ushakov, and Sergei Lavrov, his comic villain foreign minister, to recent talks in Saudi Arabia.“These guys are really skilled diplomats. They all speak absolutely excellent English,” said Hill. “They can talk the hind leg off a donkey. They can turn you around in circles. They’ve got an answer for everything.”
Batting for the US are Marco Rubio, the US secretary of state, Mike Waltz, Mr Trump’s erstwhile national security adviser, and his special envoy Steve Witkoff, a former real estate dealer. Between them, they have less than a year’s-worth of cabinet-level experience.
So, what does the dancing Russian bear make of these three cotillion debutantes? “They’re eating the neophytes on the US side for dinner,” said Hill.
I saw Hill's testimony and she is extremely credible and intelligent. This is her bottom line, and it is that we are fighting global information and geopolitical warfare against a merciless and shrewd veteran with a clown car circus act.

And it's almost unthinkable that they haven't kept strict maintenance on at least a few.

Of all those nukes, about 50% just wouldn't respond if launched. They'd just sit there. Poor maintenance, some base commander in the past 6 decades sold the payload or other gear, they've never been tested or updated, they've been stripped for scrap metal, etc.
Of the other 30%, half of those might detonate in the silos, which would be hilarious, and most of the rest would probably flame out in flight, and crash unpredictably. A few might actually fly properly, but not many.
Call his bluff, and let him launch. If he does, whether they fly or not, bomb Moscow into the stone age (conventional bombs, he'd probably irradiate his own country by then anyway, with their garbage bombs), take over the entire nation and let the UN manage it for a while, and hunt down Putin and his fortune.
How can the American elite suppress workers with ease but they are helpless now that their president is controlled by Russia?
Nobody with power is acting on this, or any of the policies that destroy the economy.
What is the compromat that Trump has on the thousand American billionaires?
One billionaire financing the organization of a general strike would be enough.
Why does that not happen?
pretty much every cop is a right wing fashy thug, too.
Have to be.
anyone else would be too educated, too moral, and to much a threat against the institutional corruption.
Will the police side with Trump if the CEO of Ford, Boeing or McDonalds support the strike? (on behalf of the owners)
But even if it is only one billionaire, there is no need to confront the police. Unlike before people don't have to meet but can organize online. If everybody stays home, there is no threat from the police.
Besides, why would the police side with a Russian asset?
It doesn't make sense. All the rich old men grew up with Russia being bad. Just the president being compromised should make them act. The president actively dismantling their power in the world is beyond accepable. And yet, nothing happens.
There must be diversity among billionaires.
Also most of them are losing money and will lose even much more money. If it is all about money they must do something now.
Cops will absolutely side with Trump over billionaires.
Trumps giving cops everything they want.. which is a country where they can do whatever the fuck they want, without repercussion. They'll fight and die for him against anyone and anything else.
Unlike before people don't have to meet but can organize online. If everybody stays home, there is no threat from the police.
The problem is that to do anything of consequence, those people need to leave their homes and take action. And they'd rather juat sit at home and continue "organizing" online...
No, they don't have to leave for consequences. If they don't leave and don't go to work, civilization will stop and Trump cannot continue. Then if there is a joined demand for a new election, it either gets ugly if Trump tries to sit it out or a new election will happen.
But there needs to be a billionaire leader who pays for the expenses because people on their own are stuck in their routines.
What expenses? If everyone is on a general strike, there's nowhere to spend money.
And honestly, your suggestion sounds like we're trying to trade one evil billionaire dictator for another evil billionaire dictator on the off chance that the new one won't destroy the global economy as thoroughly. That's not actually an improvement.
People have to be convinced to go on a general strike. USA spent $5 billion in Ukraine, so with 10 times the population it will take $50 billion to get things going.
You always trade billionaires. People don't act on their own so there is always essentially one rich group fighting another.
The fascinating thing is that there is no billionaire group opposing Trump. So there must be a convincing argument to keep everybody in line.
Money and power for the rich, and skint and subservient poor.
Be interesting to see how long it lasts.
Yes, I would think so. But then there must be a plan, a convincing plan that is more advanced than enslaving everybody, all the while nobody is leaking it.
I am not happy with any explanation so far.
He. The one whose name we don't speak. Putin?
Russia lost in Syria. There is no way Putin is in control.
Trump has been a money launderer for Putin for the past 3 decades. Trump's entire reason to own international resorts is to use them for laundering money. It's easy. Build a huge resort, say it's full even when it is not, and it just so happens to be that half the guests paid in cash. Well, the cash guest, Putin and his oligarchy bros, said "Keep this up or we will ruin you". So the choice is to make money or lose it all/get killed. Pretty easy choice right?
Whether or not he's a pedo who did illegal shit on camera is another story

He was raised a Protestant and once worked as a roofer, but now serves as a priest in the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia (ROCOR) in Georgetown, Texas, an offshoot of the mother church in Moscow.

Russia to decriminalise domestic violence as Vladimir Putin bows to ultra-conservative pressure

The new legislation marks a rapid volte-face by the Russian government. It was only in July 2016 that the Duma adopted new amendments to criminalise violence against relatives, following a recommendation by the Russian Supreme Court to decriminalise less-serious battery among general citizens but not among members of the same family.
Those measures were contested bitterly by the Russian Orthodox Church and by right-wing politicians, with senator Yelena Mizulina stating that "a man beating his wife is less offensive than when a woman humiliates a man.”

Trump demands Harvard students' info: 'We want those names'
Donald Trump wants to know who exactly Harvard’s international students are—and why the countries they hail from aren’t paying up.
Trump claimed the Ivy League university has not been forthcoming about how much of its student body international students make up in an early-morning screed on Sunday.
“Why isn’t Harvard saying that almost 31% of their students are from FOREIGN LANDS, and yet those countries, some not at all friendly to the United States, pay NOTHING toward their student’s [sic] education, nor do they ever intend to,“ Trump wrote.

Universities with high (undergrad) international student populations usually do so because they charge international students higher tuition than local students.
As for grad students, that’s a way to import high-skill workers and also grad students typically are highly underpaid for the kind of work they do while working towards their degree.

I like nationalisation as a concept. I don't like that currently it is still a concept as Labor has not made clear, concrete commitments for what it could mean.
I understand that ticket prices are unlikely to come down. It sucks but I hope they can at least commit to freezing prices for a while or something. I think nationalisation offers the opportunity to rework the ticketing system as a whole to have it be completely integrated. I hope this would mean you can just tap in and out of stations and have the lowest price automatically calculated like they are in some European countries (the Netherlands for example).
Unfortunately Labour hasn't said anything clear about their plans other than "we want to make it better". Hopefully we find out more in the Autumn.

A lot of the TOCs were already under national control. But the problem is with the system in general; its just broken. You cite ticket pricing as one insanity, but I also hate how poorly connected buses, and trains are. I wish we had a unified ticketing system so I could get a monthly pass to cover both train, and bus.
For example, I'm lucky I can get a direct bus to work. But if I didn't, I'd have to get a bus to the train station, then to train to a town close to work, then another bus. Now I have to pay for a train season ticket (which costs an absolute fortune), and a monthly bus pass.
Or I could get a car. I'm very reluctant too but public transport is so broken in the UK that I often think it would be so much easier.

It's not just the ticketing system.
Anecdotally, I needed to commute around 130 km from the Netherlands to Belgium for like half a year 3-4 days a week. The cheapest option (over buses, train, everything) was to rent a car each week from Avis. Eurostar, NS and SCNB should go to hell, how is me renting a car and fueling it less expensive than a train seat for the literal same route? In the Benelux?
And adding on top of that, the first train of the day has had a non-connection where the connecting train left 3 minutes earlier than the one taking me there, so that also limited how early could I get to where I needed to be.
On the other hand, I've reached the highest tier Booking discount tier in like 2 months so that's nice.

Car rental companies operate in a competitive market, as do gas stations. Competitive markets are pretty good at driving prices down.
Trains tend not to.
economicsonline.co.uk/business…
Railways as a natural monopolyRailways are often considered a typical example of a natural monopoly. The very high costs of laying track and building a network, as well as the costs of buying or leasing the trains, would prohibit, or deter, the entry of a competitor.
To society, the costs associated with building and running a rival network would be wasteful.
Natural monopolies
Natural monopolies A natural monopoly is a distinct type of monopoly [https://d1vtbil09mxkdf.cloudfront.net/Business_economics/Monopoly.html] that may arise when there are extremely high fixed costs [https://www.economicsonline.co.Saddique Ansari (Economics Online)
The interconnection between the modes of transport is another great point. At least starting with having train transfers be more coordinated (since they wouldn't be run by different companies) is a good start.
Unsure how coordinating all the different privat bus networks would go but definitely something the government should prioritise too. If the system can actually work then hopefully that means we can get people out of cars.
Unsure how coordinating all the different privat bus networks would go but definitely something the government should prioritise too.
Yeah having multiple private bus networks is an issue even without transferring from a train. I heard from a colleague from Manchester that before nationalisation, sometimes you'd have to buy two separate bus passes if your commute involved two separate bus companies. Now the system there is so much more simplified.
Unfortunately Labour hasn't said anything clear about their plans other than "we want to make it better"

The British authorities have brought trumped-up charges against a member of Irish hip-hop group Kneecap in a bid to stifle criticism of their own complicity with Israeli war crimes.jacobin.com
Not exactly. He is on trial after videos have been revealed showing him calling for upping the Islamic terrorist groups Hamas and Hezbollah, and calling on the audience to kill their MP.
Considering in the last five years, two MPs: Jo Cox and David Amess have both been murdered on the job it is not at all surprising he has found himself on trial.
No such videos exist. He was charged for "waving a Hezbollah flag" in a concert because they couldn't get away with arresting him for putting this on a banner:
Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinian people: It is being enabled by the US government who arm and fund Israel despite their war crimes.Fuck Israel. Free Palestine.
I don't know if the commentor above is misinformed or just covering for Israel's genocide.

I didn't find the video but it was being investigated by the police according to this article.
"A video has emerged of the west Belfast trio at a November 2023 gig appearing to show one person from the band saying: "The only good Tory is a dead Tory. Kill your local MP."
The Metropolitan Police also said that another video, from November last year, is being assessed. The footage appeared to show a band member shouting "up Hamas, up Hezbollah" at a performance in London."

You're gonna need to help us with that charge.
Seems like he waved a flag.
In the wake of the Coachella display, supporters of Israel combed through Kneecap’s back catalogue of performances in search of something they could use to attack the band without having to acknowledge the charge of genocide, against which there is no credible defense. London’s Metropolitan Police have now accused Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, who goes by the name “Mo Chara” (“my friend”) when performing, of waving a Hezbollah flag during a gig last November “in such a way or in such circumstances as to arouse reasonable suspicion that he is a supporter of a proscribed organisation.”
So he's on trial for "calling for upping Hamas" and incitement to murder MPs where exactly?
The court of Public Opinion?
Hezbollah is a proscribed terrorist organisation
By who? The same Western Countries who are funding an apartheid ethnosupremacist state committing genocide and suppressing any resistance. They also labeled the IRA (What do you think the name Kneecap comes from), the FLN, the Vietcong, the ANC as proscribed terrorist organizations. They always label resistance groups against colonialism as terrorists. It doesn't mean shit.
Hezbollah is also a prominent party within Lebanon's parliamentary system, and only exists out of armed resistance against the settler colonialist actions of Israel within Lebanon.
I dont know about the UK, but the EU distinguishes between the armed wing of Hezbollah and the political wing. Hezbollah is in the Lebanese parliament and was part of the Lebanese government.
Now they did commit quite some atrocities, but by that logic waving any flag of countries like Germany, UK, France, US, China, Russia amd many more would be prohibited. Obv. if we apply same standards Israel and most of its political parties, the IDF and many of Israels "civil", organizatioms would need to be designated as terrorist groups.
Same for Hamas. Hamas has an armed wing but also a political wing that ran the civil administration of Gaza and still tries to do that, despite Israel mass slaughtering any civil servant. That the distinction between armed and civil wing is granted by the EU to Hezbollah but not to Hamas has no rational basis.
Then again the UK considers "stop oil" to be terroristic so the entire system of terror designations in the UK does not really care about employing a rational and consistent system.
Not quite, an unidentifed band member shouted out to kill your MP, but it doesn't appear to be him:

"The band, which hit the headlines after projecting the slogan “f*** Israel, free Palestine” above its set at Coachella last month, came under scrutiny after a pair of contentious clips resurfaced online.
One showed a member of the band shout “the only good Tory is a dead Tory” and “kill your local MP”.
In the other, one of the performers – alleged to be O’Hanna – could be seen apparently wearing a Hezbollah flag while shouting “up Hamas, up Hezbollah”."

Like, an IRA flag would go great with that

Of course, they will be cast aside when they aren't useful, but said thugs are happy at the thought of being allowed to hurt people

They were convicted of conspiracy in federal court in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in 2022. […] They are being held at a prison in Colorado
The state would have to charge them with something the Feds didn’t already charge them with (due to double indemnity laws), then issue warrants for their arrest, and hope they get arrested or turn themselves in. One of them doesn’t live in Michigan. I can’t imagine the other would move back. They could be extradited by another state, but then they have to be retried.
Still better than nothing, at least if they do get a bullshit pardon, they would maybe always have the specter of criminal charges hanging over them, and would fail any comprehensive background check. But they wouldn’t be in a cell in the interim.
“In my opinion these are victims just like January 6,” Martin said.
The law only binds the enemies of the administration.
First class graduates from American University of Baghdad, once Saddam’s palace
BAGHDAD (AP) — The American University of Baghdad celebrated the graduation of its first cohort of students Saturday at a campus that was once a palace built by Saddam Hussein.
Officials said they hope the graduation will mark the beginning of a new era in higher education in Iraq rooted in modernity, openness and international academic standards.
The university was inaugurated in 2021 on the site of the al-Faw Palace, built on an island in the middle of an artificial lake by Saddam in the 1990s to mark the retaking of the peninsula of the same name during the war.
After the U.S.-led invasion that unseated Saddam in 2003, it was used as a U.S. coalition military headquarters called Camp Victory. It was later developed into an American-style university with a core liberal arts program through funding by influential Iraqi business owner Saadi Saihood.
