Everyone disagrees with us except these disgraced scientists. Now that we have manufactured dissent we have the proof we need that all science is fake!
in reply to silence7

This is the Republican project. Let's not lose the plot here. Taco is the symptom, but this is what conservatives and Republicans have been after for decade upon decade upon decade.

Read Toxic Sludge is Good for You as an example...published back in 2002.

Related video: inv.nadeko.net/watch?v=UxdD_XI…

The conservatives had to use PR in the past, but I'm sure because they are authoritarians, they would much rather just have direct, fascist-like control over such things. Taco could get the cheeseburger from heaven tomorrow and this project will still continue unabated. We need to remember that no matter what, this does not start nor does it end with Taco.

Canada's first large-scale shipment of LNG delivered to port in South Korea

A tanker carrying Canada’s first major shipment of liquefied natural gas has arrived at a South Korean port, ushering in a new era for Canadian energy exports that some had feared would never come, as the country’s natural gas reaches new buyers in premium Asian-Pacific markets.
in reply to non_burglar

The question is what is the LNG displacing in the local markets. If it was coal then its a small step in the right direction.

Anti-immigrant rallies staged across Poland

Anti‑immigration protests have taken place in dozens of towns and cities across Poland.

Most demonstrations attracted several hundred people or fewer on Saturday - but police estimated that about 3,000 took part in the largest rally in the southern city of Katowice.

The protests were organised by far-right political group Konfederacja, and another nationalist organisation.

Politicians from Konfederacja and the opposition Law and Justice party have been warning about a flood of illegal migration in Poland - but official figures do not support their claims.

in reply to babysandpiper

They will also protest Polish people migrating to other countries for economic purposes, surely?
in reply to babysandpiper

Russia. Russia did this.

If you don't understand that then you are literally living in your own anus.

Exclusive: Trump's funding cut stalls water projects, increasing risks for millions

The Trump administration's decision to slash nearly all U.S. foreign aid has left dozens of water and sanitation projects half-finished across the globe, creating new hazards for some of the people they were designed to benefit, Reuters has found.

Reuters has identified 21 unfinished projects in 16 countries after speaking to 17 sources familiar with the infrastructure plans. Most of these projects have not previously been reported.

With hundreds of millions of dollars in funding cancelled since January, workers have put down their shovels and left holes half dug and building supplies unguarded, according to interviews with U.S. and local officials and internal documents seen by Reuters.

And here’s the best part! We’re still paying for it, running up the debt like there’s no tomorrow. You’re just not benefiting because your money is being spent on rich people.

More than 100 arrested across UK at protests related to Palestine Action

Sammy Gecsoyler
Sat 19 Jul 2025 14.41 EDT

Demonstrations were held in London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Bristol and Truro on Saturday as part of a campaign coordinated by Defend Our Juries.

In London’s Parliament Square, beside the Mahatma Gandhi statue, police officers surrounded people at an event at which signs were held that read “I oppose genocide, I support Palestine Action”.

A woman who was detained in Parliament Square said: “We demand that #Palestine Action is de-proscribed.

“Our government is not only arming a genocide, they are using terrorism laws to silence people who speak out."

More than 100 arrested across UK at protests related to Palestine Action

in reply to Peter Link

Making Palestine action a terrorist group is a fucking outrage. Tel Aviv Keith is an authoritarian israeli
in reply to Mrkawfee

While I would normally agree that labeling a protest group as terrorists would be government overreach, I'm not sure if that is true for Palestine Action. Their protests have more similarity with terrorist actions than I would be comfortable with

aljazeera.com/news/2025/7/4/pa…

Particularly the last bullet point in that article is a big one

In June 2025, the group carried out one of its most provocative actions to date: infiltrating RAF Brize Norton, the UK’s largest airbase. Activists used electric scooters to breach security and vandalised military aircraft with red paint.

You can't break into a military base, vandalize property, and expect the government not to do anything about that.
I'm all for pro-Palestinian protests and standing with Palestine, but this is not it.

Terrorist means something specific until it doesn't, at which point it can be twisted to mean anyone. Like people who disagree with and protest ethnic cleansing, genocide, shooting children, medical workers and journalists, etc.

This was exactly the concerns raised by this wretched law at the time. The definition of what constitutes terrorism is so broad it was inevitable that it would become weaponized by politicians.

The fact that it is being used to crush peaceful protests is ominous.

It seems that the Israel chimera is fast tracking authoritarianism across the West.

Iraq war protestors did the same thing in 2003 and they were acquitted at trial by the jury. Their barrister was....Keir Starmer

There were similar attacks on RAF jets during the genocide on Myanmar I believe. They were also acquitted by a jury

In the latest edition of London Review of Books they speculate that making PA a terrorist group is to remove jury trials as prosecutions under the Terrorism Act is reviewed by a district judge without a jury present. The government doesn't want juries to acquit them as they most likely would, given the history of direct action in this country.

Congo and Rwanda-backed rebels sign declaration of principles for a permanent ceasefire in the east

Congo and Rwanda-backed rebels on Saturday signed a declaration of principles in Qatar to end decadeslong fighting in eastern Congo that commits them to a permanent ceasefire and a comprehensive peace agreement to be signed in one month.

A final peace deal is to be signed no later than Aug. 18, and such a deal “shall align with the Peace Agreement between Congo and Rwanda” facilitated by the U.S. in June, according to a copy of the declaration seen by The Associated Press.

It is the first direct commitment by both Congo and the rebels since theys seized two key cities in eastern Congo in a major advance.

Backed by neighboring Rwanda, the M23 is the most prominent of more than 100 armed groups fighting for control in Congo’s mineral-rich east. With 7 million people displaced in Congo, the U.N. has called the conflict in eastern Congo “one of the most protracted, complex, serious humanitarian crises on Earth.”

I've been to Ha Long Bay several times and it's generally very calm there so this is very unusual:

There were "hailstones as big as toes with torrential rain, thunderstorm and lightning," Ha Long Bay office worker Tran Trong Hung told the French AFP news agency.

How does one get a job at a private school with insane tuition and an extremely low acceptance rate, the kind of school that Vanderbilts send their kids to, with no degree? How does someone presumably diddle very very wealthy young girls (that’s probably why he got fired?) without any consequences?

Like yeah, private schools can hire whoever they want as teachers, but that’s the kind of place I would expect would want its teachers to have some kind of certifications?

And wtf:

He was headmaster of the Dalton School from 1964 to 1974. For a brief time, at the end of his tenure as headmaster, disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein was employed as a math teacher. It is unclear whether Barr hired Epstein. In 1973, Barr published Space Relations, a science fiction novel about a planet ruled by oligarchs who engage in child sex slavery. It has been noted that the plot of the novel anticipates the crimes of Epstein and his accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell.

Obama’s blunt message for Democrats: ‘Toughen up’

“I think it’s going to require a little bit less navel-gazing and a little less whining and being in fetal positions. And it’s going to require Democrats to just toughen up,” Obama said at the fundraiser

https://www.cnn.com/2025/07/14/politics/obama-democrats-message

in reply to BarneyPiccolo

While I agree I don't think you'll get many Democrats who are willing to put their necks out to stop him now that it's open season for hunting Democrats. What would you do if you were in the Senate or Congress? Would you vote to impeach the Orange Julius Caesar and have your family at the top of every crazy MAGA supporters hit list or are you going to stay quiet, stay low, and don't bring any attention to yourself until you can lose your seat to a republican. One option your kids are targets of domestic terrorists, the other you get to collect a fat paycheck.

Cause if you think the last set of Democrats who were murdered will be the only ones, you're nieve.

in reply to InputZero

If you are advocating that we not punish traitors in the democratic party, whats the point of politics at all? Why have a government or laws? Why vote if both the dems and republicans just vote for the same things?

Your way of thinking leads nowhere.

Holiday travel financially out of reach for 40% of people in France

We have a relative living in France. His government pension is a whopping 90 € per months. That isn't even enough to pay groceries for two weeks.

France is in dire need of a revolution.
