Fun fact - facts don't care if they're popular or not.
in reply to kowanatsi

TBH there's no such thing as scientific "truth". There's varying level of evidence and varying levels of certainty.

Articles that flatten various scientific results into simply being "true" are actually pseudo-scientific. They present a true/false dichotomy that doesn't actually exist. They're lumping things with excellent evidence with things that are far less sure, but none of them are "true" in the logical/mathematical/scientific sense.

This doesn't help science or make people smarter. It just makes people less critical and more accepting of "authorities" like this shitty website. This is part of why USA is full of people who "love science" but are scientifically illiterate.

Wait, so this started before October 7th? Or did they really put in the overtime those last few months of 2023?
in reply to EndlessNightmare

I'm sure it's both, considering en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Destruct… (no one died, but destroyed major journalist offices) and history didn't start on October 7th. That, and the sheer numbers from 2023.

no, it's not clear he's saying he was paid to have those opinions, only that his job then was to share opinions, but his job now, according to him is to find facts. I'm no fan of bongino, but I'm really big on intellectual honesty.

Yeah I mean that seems to be what he’s saying to me. Do I think he was lying before? Yes. Do I think he’s lying now? Also yes. But I don’t think he’s admitting to lying.

Trump: "Look at how cool my good friend Pete Hegseth is! He's killing the drug dealers and the terrorists."

Media: "Damn, did you just post video of your Sec Def committing a war crime?"

Pete: "No! No! Not a war crime! I didn't say that. This is fake footage. But if it was real, it would have been a very cool thing to do."

Media: "Trump, is your Defense Department leaking doctored videos of military exercises?"

Trump: "Democrats! The Democrats were already doing this. No crime! Fake news. I don't even know this Pete Hegseth guy. Never even seen a video."

Media: "Okay, well... I guess that's that. Back to polling the midterms."

ICC: helpless shrugging

Tell us of your experience with NOSTR

This survey was created so the Nostr community can better understand itself and help advance the Nostr protocol and ecosystem.

The Fediverse is the network and NOSTR is one of its protocols.

in reply to ℕ𝕖𝕞𝕠

This isn't the first time I've heard someone on lemmy claim that, but I will say having spent time on botth sides of the 'verse and I've seen more facists on various corners of the ActivityPub based 'verse than in NOSTR.
in reply to zjti8eit

i do not know where you get that impression. antisemitism, conspiracy theories and general racism are soooo common if you just browse one of the public feeds on primal, ditto etc. not to mention like 1 in 5 posts are just bitcoin posting.

we do have instances of fascist chuds on ActivityPub, but they're at least a little less easy to run into if you go to our equivalent of a public firehose like mastodon.social.

i will say there's parts of the nostr protocol i prefer over ActivtyPub, but you'll never catch me anywhere near that nazi bar

If you can go 4 out of 5 posts without seeing Bitcoin stuff it's love to copy your relay list.
in reply to kim (she/her)

Primal is trash and not an actual client. Yeah if you are on an instance like Mastodon.social that blocks half the ',verse it will look like we're squeaky clean on this side of the bridge .

Leaked Memo: DOJ To List, Target Anti-Trump Activists as ‘Domestic Terrorists’

The Department of Justice (DOJ) will potentially treat opponents of President Donald Trump’s policies as “domestic terrorists,” according to a leaked memo from Attorney General Pam Bondi to all U.S. law enforcement agencies.

The document, which was first published over the weekend by investigative journalist Ken Klippenstein, appears to represent the first attempt to implement Trump’s calls to target left-wing activists and others who protest his administration’s policies as “terrorists” affiliated with antifa, an anti-fascist movement that often serves as a boogeyman for the right.

Trump is a bitch. Kick him out of office and prison the loser. Btw I’m anti-Trump

Obvious attack line: "Sensitive baby scared of criticism. Cry more, it won't make your hyperbolic language any more effective when we can all see how scared you are of opposing views."

Been waiting a long time for someone to just call out his microdick energy and follow it up with how you're going to materially improve people's lives when he's gone.

Palestinian Medical Evacuees in Jordan Returned to Gaza Without Prior Warning

Dec 12, 2025

A group of Palestinian children evacuated from Gaza to Jordan for medical treatment with family members or caregivers were reportedly returned to Gaza earlier this month by Jordanian authorities without prior warning and had their belongings, including money and jewelry, confiscated by Israeli soldiers, according to multiple sources.

The Palestinian children were evacuated from Gaza as part of an initiative first announced by Jordanian King Abdullah II during a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House in February. Dubbed the “Jordan Medical Corridor initiative,” Jordan pledged to treat a total of 2,000 child patients from Gaza in successive stages. The patients would receive medical care at private or public hospitals and return to Gaza once treatment was completed. Since March, hundreds of Palestinian children have received treatment in successive batches and have been returned to Gaza.

Firewood Banks Aren’t Inspiring. They’re a Sign of Collapse.

in reply to Delta_V

NewRepublic simping for the State, fails to see how anything other than the State could be considered inspiring or resilient.

Apparently, acts of solidarity aren't inspiring and people taking their material wellbeing into their own hands aren't being resilient because it means the State is non-functional...just...what?

Such a weird article.

in reply to jwiggler

It's a very American view to think that individuals in the community having to step in to keep people from dying is more reasonable than the government of one of the wealthiest nations in the world stepping in to keep people from dying. And somehow criticizing the state for failing to provide for the most basic needs of its citizens is simping.

None of the people using the wood bank are taking their wellbeing into their own hands. They're relying on their community to support them so they don't die. And that's great that it's happening, but it's shifty that the government, ostensibly the representative of the community, can't institutionalize what is clearly the will of the community.

in reply to jwiggler

I'll certainly grant you the Statist label, but I still don't see how being critical of the state is simping. And I would argue, like the article, that rather than being inspired by these resilient groups, your first response should be an intense anger at the state for failing so badly, with that inspiration or admiration being a distant second.

This does remind me of that FB group with the name that is something like "Failures of capitalism disguised as heartwarming stories" or the like....

The Reddit equivalent is r/orphancrushingmachine, named after a parody news story telling the uplifting fact that an orphan-crushing machine had been taken out of service for repairs and so wouldn't be crushing orphans for a while. The question of why there had to be an orphan-crushing machine in the first place went unaddressed.

In that to say people can't be cold and unable to heat their residence under other systems historically?
