Made a graph of the "wider" fediverse - is this correct?

Made a graph of the "wider" fediverse - is this correct?

Been reading some docs and felt like drawing to get a better picture.

Some things to note:
- Parenthesis indicate bridges
- Fed Bridgy and Mostr appear twice because I don't know if they allow cross-communication
- One-way arrows (→) indicate one-way communication, and two-ways arrows (⇄) indicate the two sides can talk with each other
- Threads to/from Facebook and Instagram communication appears with an interrogation mark because the information I could find didn't feel conclusive and I don't have an account to test myself
- Maybe I missed some bridges and protocols, but that'd be more of a lack of knowing; also intentionally ignored X/Twitter > Nitter > RSS > ActicityPub bridges because it felt too much of a stretch.

in reply to julian

Wasn't quite sure how to fit WordPress, as well as either Minds and Threads, as all 3 end up being, from what I could tell, hybrids.

But interesting. Now that you mention it, I remembered NodeBB also implemented ActivityPub compatibility, though can't remember if it's through optional plugins or if it became an ActivityPub platform altogether. Gonna look up what other softwares are in this situation too.

Elon Musk says DOGE was only ‘somewhat successful’ and he wouldn’t do it again

Yeah, but surely he'll figure it all out if we pay him a trillion dollars - Tesla board.

Somewhat successful as in "Fuck saving money, we got all the data! That Trump...what a fuckin' moron!" (tech bros giggling and high-fiving).

‘Coalition of the willing’ nations to hold call on ending war in Ukraine

Leaders of the “coalition of the willing” group of nations will hold a video call on Thursday as chaotic American efforts to push through a peace deal to end the war in Ukraine reach a crunch moment.

Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said his officials would hand over a revised version of a peace plan to US negotiators on Wednesday before the call with leaders and officials from about 30 countries.

in reply to realitista

Simple as that. But Russia knew since day 1 that "the West" won't want to commit itself fully. Easy prediction since that's exactly what happened in 2014 and basically all Russia's expansionist activity since the 90s.

Well here's to hoping that this will change. It has to change, really.

Trump rants nonsense about transgender people instead of fixing affordability crisis at Pennsylvania rally

There's a special level of hate reserved for transgender people. This ultimately comes from the Palengenetic Ultra-nationalism that formed the foundation of the Nazi party and is now forming the foundation of the Republican party. Hate is a powerful drug. People say religion is the opiate of the masses. But, realistically, religion is merely the syringe.

Right? Everyone's talking about MAGA speedrunning the slide to authoritarianism, I just want them to hit the 30 April 1945 any% record.

The Digital Services Act and Theories of Power

The European Commission put a 120M EUR fine on X for DSA violations. But as the European politicians cannot get themselves to leave the platform, it shows the issues with how they understand how power works on social platforms.

Can you tell me precisely what Ukraine did to provoke Russia into invading, other than just historically being part of the Russian empire?
in reply to Mr Fish

What you know as "Ukraine" is the illegitimate nazi puppet government that the US empire installed in 2014 for the purpose of provoking yet another proxy war
in reply to jankforlife

Can you give the specific, Nazi actions or policies Ukraine has placed on it's people. I'm not a huge expert on Ukrainian politics. But say if someone were to ask me what nazi like things the US is doing, I'd be able to say

Making threats to attack neighboring countries (Canada, Greenland, Panema), directly attacking other countries like Venuzuala and Iran. Putting people in camps, raising the police state, canceling citizenship of american citizens, prosecuting journalists, Restricting rights for LGBT.

I can make a long list for Russia and Isreal as well.

So educate me, as far as I can see Ukrain seemed to keep to it's self pretty well. I've not really heard any examples of extreme authoritarianism or attacking journalists, or finding an outgroup to persecute.. or anything to imply they had any intent of threatening any of their neighboring countries.

in reply to TheFogan

the 2014 gov't adopted policies to look the other way while the likes of azov brigade committed atrocities against russian speakers in the east side of their country; isreali style.
in reply to jankforlife

By "you know", you secretly mean "the world except like 4 authoritarian countries knows" right? It's great to question what media tells you about a place, but if the only countries that deny it are allied to the country invading them... Just maybe you're either misinformed or actively spreading misinformation

in reply to jankforlife

Given a recent high profile terrorist attack, I think this list is a bit too black and white.

Then again the chain of causality eventually leads back to the war crimes (not against Palestinians) of two members of that list so maybe not.

in reply to Rooty

What if someone doesnt have, and has never had, social media?

Express trip to Gitmo?

in reply to Hotznplotzn

I wonder why this is considered surprising. If a country considers it acceptable to use a name of a unit of 1940's Nazi Germany as a name for its contemporary unit, why is it a surprise that the country does stuff typical to Nazis?

The Russia is what it is.

in reply to Tuukka R

I don't know that it is surprising, just that it is. And should be broadcast at every opportunity, just to catalogue the atrocities if no one is actually going to stop them.

I do not doubt the report but telegraph is a right winger anti imigration and pro israel media

MS-13 and Trump Backed the Same Presidential Candidate in Honduras

MS-13 gang members told Hondurans to vote for the Trump-backed right-wing candidate or “we’ll kill you and your whole fucking family.”
in reply to technocrit

But I thought Trump was supposed to get rid of those bad hombres, not side with them. 🙃

If this happened, I’d react like grandma.

Introducing Taskpony!

Taskpony is a self-hosted tasks manager that runs from docker or as a linux service.

"Another tasks app? Seriously?"

I've been trying to de-google and, having used Google Tasks for many years, replacing it proved surprisingly complex for something that seemed so simple. I tried a number of other task managers, both paid and free which, whilst excellent at what they did, I found to be complex or packed with team and group features that I didn't need. So I wrote something for myself and, somewhere along the way, I thought it might be nice to share it with the FOSS community that I've benefited so much from.

It's the first "proper" FOSS app I've released, so please be kind.

Taskpony is over at github.com/digdilem/taskpony - it would be great if you could give it a try and let me know how it could be improved.

in reply to DigitalDilemma

Why not provide a option to use an a desktop app?. maybe also add a flatpak. self hosting seems kinda complicated and i am not sure what are the benefits of that.

Also a demo instance would be nice.

in reply to wiki_me

It's a self hosted web app, and that's not something that's easy to change once it's written. The benefits to self hosting are pretty well established, and this type of thing can be accessed from anywhere in the world by multiple devices and always be in sync. For myself, I use this both from a laptop, my desktop and a phone when I'm out - I'm always jotting down thoughts before they fall out of my head. Also, there's probably a lot of desktop task apps out there already that do tasks, like many Email clients. I don't mind reinventing a wheel, but not too keen on reinventing all the wheels.

Demo is a fair point, I'll include that on the wishlist for the future. I think the pictures probably do a fair job of indicating how a task app works - which is basically a way of entering, displaying and ticking off tasks which many people will be familiar with, but perhaps I'm just over familiar with the concept. A self resettable demo might be nice, yes.

in reply to Quilotoa

This is why mamdani campaigned free fast buses. Give the people what we want.
in reply to Quilotoa

Such a rare take these days.

Bauer said the whole system is “struggling.”

“I pay a lot of taxes and I want the transit to be good,” he said. “As a growing city, we really need to be doing better when it comes to our transit, especially with people being called back to work.”

The right wing take of taxation is theft is mediocre but the left has also become really bad at this as well.

Like the recent with Canada Post here. Even in a casual setting where no one is vying for populist votes there's still no room to scrutinize the current day operations and reassess whether those resources would be better reallocated.
