This is much of Putin's plan to fracture long held western alliances. He sees these headlines and sees his return on investment.
Did you read Putin's own essay on his imperial fantasies? The Foundations of geopolitics; Surkov theater? Let's not pull the Glenn Greenwald blind-eye RussiaGate nonsense and pretend that russia is innocent in all this. There is an absurd amount of evidence that this is the exact goal of Putin for many, many years — particularly the fragmentation of NATO, and why he was hinging on Trump's reelection ideally to invade Ukraine in the first place. The one piece of puzzle that luckily failed and likely led to Ukraine being able to mount an effective defense against his main invasion.
Moreover it has also been very obvious that the Republican administration, and that includes think-tanks like Heritage, have been infiltrated. There's a reason Trump is Agent Krasnov. There's a reason former Trump officials were literally imprisoned before they were pardoned for essentially spying on behalf of russia. There is a reason Putin spent a lot of time and resources seeking Trump's winning every election. There is a reason Trump is picking fights with Denmark over Greenland and right out of the gate picked a fight with our closest ally both literally and figuratively, Canada. There is no better explanation than to divide and fracture the west and to give Putin his return on his investment.
You can even look to Hungary (and again the obsession with right-wing domestic media interest) as a proving-ground for Putin.
It's like The Office meme; "They're the same picture."
Also, more importantly, what do Meta, Google, and Apple have to do with picking tariff wars with Canada and fighting over Greenland with Denmark? Like I'm all for shitting on corporations and their pathological pursuit of profit, but I'm not yet seeing the connection.
1) see the danger (some right wing governments may be more reluctant)
2) agree that publicly acknowledging the danger is the best way to go
3) actually do the thing

This is still an issue, however, just not one mentioned in the article. This is commodified parental abuse.

I am sorry but this is bullshit. I live in this area and Boone may not be a hotbed of leftist activity in the mountains of WNC but t is not what this article is making it out to be. Boone was gerrymander away out of the 11th district for a reason. Its voting black was large enough when paired with Asheville to sway WNC Democratic. Outside of Asheville and Boone WNC is a sea of uneducated MAGA and fundamentalist Christians that either do not vote or are violently MAGA. Do not get me wrong. There are a lot of non-Trumpers here but not enough to make a difference. Honestly, outside of Boone the locals are perfectly fine with what is going on.
Truthfully, after reading the article I even wonder if the author has even been to Boone. One section talks about blood in the hills and the ending of mining. Mining never happened in WNC. Logging was the thing here. The article even talks about Blair Mountain which is nowhere near Boone. In the end this article not nothing but hopeium.

I'm good with either result.
I’m sure it is documented, but I’m just thinking now if families during the civil war were as divided over politics as people are today.
My Dad loves Trump, I am on the other side. I would not fight in a war, as I would not fight against my family even though we do not agree politically.
Yes. That was a huge part of the civil war. There are volumes written from first hand perspective about families being torn apart over the war. Families meeting on the battle field, on opposite ends.
That absolutely happened back then.

When George f****ing Washington , inaugural president of the United States, leads troops into battle to assert the rule of law and congress's ability to impose taxes it kind of sets a precedent.
America's had a bunch of tax rebellions, though . It's just that being a functioning democracy let us do it without anyone dying. (Save for two very notable exceptions.)
And these jabronis will be the first to fold like cheap lawn chairs when they figure out that when a civil war starts in earnest, it very quickly strips them of all the comforts they feel accustomed and entitled to.
Could not agree more with this. I know a few RW preppers in my life and I always ask them to walk me through the scenarios they play out in their head. Most of them still think they are going to be fighting against a rogue government. Of course, this rogue government is assumed to be "Communist" because, well, reasons, LOL. This, even as they can obviously see what the cons are doing right now.
All of them are utterly delusional about how it would play out at least in my view. I always ask them about their plans for becoming a farmer. They talk about how they have enough guns and ammo, and some number of months/years of food. And enough fuel to heat your house for that time, as well as medicine to sustain whatever health conditions you have or may arise.
Okay, let's say you actually have a full X years worth of food for everyone in your family. And you fight off all threats for X years. Now what? You know nothing about how to grow crops and have no seeds. Probably no real land to grow it on. The U.S. has collapsed and unless you take up raiding others' food supplies (probably also diminished or completely run out, so not all that viable, never mind the moral compass being broken) you are doing...what?
I think these people have watched too many zombie movies or things like Red Dawn or whatever and think they are just going to sit somewhere on their front lawn with their AR-15, taking out "bad guys" wearing clearly delineated uniforms to designate them as a "Communist" or from "Big Government", and if they think about something like food, they just assume they'll be munching on MREs or whatever. Life doesn't work like a first person shooter game...FFS.
These same assholes couldn't beat farmers in straw hats with bamboo sticks.
Fuck them.
Anything to keep my guns in merica.
No war. If anything you all started it and never want it to end.
Imagine peace.
The notion of a second U.S. civil war has been mentioned a few times in recent history, by those on both sides of the aisle

How would a civil war be fought in the US in 2025? Where would the battle lines be drawn? It seems like if any skirmishes were to break out anywhere, the police and the military would come in and reestablish order very quickly. Maybe if there was fighting within the military itself, but then whichever side controlled the most strategically important military bases would win quickly and easily. I just don't see it happening.
I could see some kind of guerilla action, however. I could see assassinations, shootings and bombings, kind of like what happened in Northern Ireland in the 90s. Maybe cyber attacks as well.
That type of diffuse, guerilla warfare is how modern civil wars generally go.

The 30 years or so before the Civil War kicked off was a time of outbreaks of street fighting, insurgencies, guerrilla actions, and general instability. The uniformed, shooting war didn't just materlialize out of nothing.
And as for the military, they can kill huge numbers of people, but that doesn't mean they can control an unwilling civilian population. Hell, they couldn't even control a few miliion starving-ass Afghans.
Over three hundred million Americans, 200 million of whom hate your guts? Endless insurgency.
"I will submit to you that the Second US Civil War has already started. They're just using surrogates," the Republican lawmaker said. The Indiana state senator added, "I submit to you that that's accurate."
Guy sure likes to submit to whoever’s listening.
I think we already have an cold war, considering the activities of ICE and how the Trump Regime is doing everything possible to destroy institutions. Sooner or later, things will turn hot.
It is with that belief, that I have already chosen to join the Blue States Military, in whatever capacity they think is useful. Odds are that I would just be a generic infantryman, as that would free up the smart and capable people for the stuff that needs skilled labor.
What's the difference between a civil war and a revolution to overthrow the rich?

Synthetic chemicals in food system creating health burden of $2.2tn a year, report finds
Scientists have issued an urgent warning that some of the synthetic chemicals that help underpin the current food system are driving increased rates of cancer, neurodevelopmental conditions and infertility, while degrading the foundations of global agriculture.
The health burden from phthalates, bisphenols, pesticides and Pfas “forever chemicals” amounts to up to $2.2tn a year – roughly as much as the profits of the world’s 100 largest publicly listed companies, according to the report published on Wednesday.
Most ecosystem damage remains unpriced, they say, but even a narrow accounting of ecological impacts, taking into account agricultural losses and meeting water safety standards for Pfas and pesticides, implies a further cost of $640bn. There are also potential consequences for human demographics, with the report concluding that if exposure to endocrine disruptors such as bisphenols and phthalates persists at current rates, there could be between 200 million and 700 million fewer births between 2025 and 2100.

You see, that's not a problem because that burden is not on the ones causing these problems! So this doesn't affect the profit line moving up! On the contrary, it creates opportunities for more profit!

I hated all of the "say what you want about Trump and Melania... but leave the kids out of it" bullshit.
It's a fucking family of monsters. That's what these "upper crusts" produce. More fucking monsters that never learn accountability, gratitude or anything. Because everyone is so obsessed with sheltering the kids from the actions of their family. And then guess what, that kid grows up and acts EXACTLY like their parents because they were never challenged to be different.
Fuck Baron, just the next link in a chain of fucking monsters.
I hated all of the “say what you want about Trump and Melania… but leave the kids out of it” bullshit.
Well, I have said repeatedly in the past that while his father is a fascist criminal, his mother is a scam artist and a shameless gold digger, and his two elder brothers are professional crooks, Barron deserved the benefit of the doubt until he showed whether he decided to distance himself from his terrible family or not.
I guess he deserves the benefit of the doubt no longer.
he was always going to turn out this way. Because he had no reason not to. He was being raised by crooks, racists, thieves and rapists. And everyone was like "nono, we shouldn't interfere, it'll be fine".
Want to know why I'm not a red voting racist dipshit like the rest of my family up and down the tree? Because I was challenged as a kid to defend my views and actions of my family. I had to think critically about who was raising me and if that was moral and ethical. I felt ashamed of knowing what my family was instead of just adopting their views wholesale. Because OTHER people didn't just let it happen.
he was always going to turn out this way. Because he had no reason not to.
Sometimes people escape their faith, and they shouldn't be judged before their reveal their final personality.
no, they don't. Not unprompted. They have no reason to question it because they're not forced to. And if they grow up surrounded by people reinforcing it, encouraging it, and no one to question it, that becomes their reality, it's how they view the world. Normal to them, a monster to everyone else.
Literally Plato's cave. It's what they're exposed to and what they know. It's their curated reality, taught by monsters. And when they grow up, they reject new information because it doesn't align with what they understand as "reality".
Every person who ever "escaped" their faith, had some external factor that made them have to reconcile their reality. Question the shadows on the cave. Something outside of their bubble made them think that the world was different from what they were raised on. And then they had to choose to learn more over the more comfortable prospect of staying inside. It's why cults work, but no one says "say what you will about the leader, but leave the members alone".... it's the same operating principle.
I think that it's perfectly fine and morally and tactically best practices to not attack minors. None of his kids is a minor anymore. It's also generally for the best to leave out kids who don't participate in politics. All but one of them have made policy decisions for him.
It's the difference between attacking Obama's daughters vs attacking Chelsea Clinton vs attacking Jeb! Bush
Wtf... am I taking crazy pills? This article didn't even say anything about Barron Trump. It talked a lot about tate and others. It mentioned unnamed "connections", but didn't describe those connection between barron and tate at all. (It mentioned that a friend said that those two had a zoom call, thats it.)
I dont know anything about Barron trump, and after this article I still dont.
What reputation did he have? Just that he was mostly silent before this?
How far did people expect this apple to fall from the tree?
How does this little dweeb have a reputation at all?
Totally on brand for the Trump clan, though. Mary Trump really is the only one sane enough to wash her hands of the mortal shitstain that is the Trump legacy.
From Iran to China to Venezuela - how seized tanker hid location
Under a UN treaty, all ships above a certain tonnage must have an onboard tracker called an Automatic Identification System (AIS). These trackers broadcast information about the ships, including their location, and can be followed on websites like MarineTraffic.
But there is an incomplete and misleading public record of the Skipper's movements. According to MarineTraffic, the Skipper's last known port call was at Soroosh in Iran on 9 July, where it arrived after stopping in Iraq and the UAE.
But Kpler suggests that this is part of a pattern of misleading entries by the Skipper. Analysts at the firm said the ship had previously loaded crude oil from Venezuela and Iran, while falsifying its position via its onboard tracker, a process known as spoofing.

Trump pardons former Colorado elections clerk, but it alone won't free her from prison
Donald Trump issued a symbolic pardon for Tina Peters on Thursday, but it alone won’t free the former Colorado elections administrator who was convicted under state laws of orchestrating a data breach scheme driven by false claims of fraud in the 2020 presidential election.
Trump’s pardon power does not extend to state crimes like those for which Peters was convicted last year and sentenced to nine years in prison.
The pardon underscores Trump’s continued efforts to promote the idea that the 2020 election was stolen from him even though courts around the country and Trump’s own attorney general at the time found no evidence of fraud that could have affected the outcome. Reviews, recounts and audits of the election in the battleground states where Trump contested his loss also affirmed Joe Biden’s victory.

Gee, if only I could have an obituary
Then, I could wish you Merry Christmas!
WASHINGTON—President Donald Trump died tonight at the age of 79 after suffering a stroke, the White House announced in a statement. While having dinner with his family, a White House staffer noticed Trump suddenly began slurring his speech before collapsing on the ground. The president was rushed by ambulance to nearby George Washington University Hospital, where despite emergency treatment, he was pronounced dead. The time of death was recorded as 11:57 PM. J.D. Vance was notified of the president's demise shortly thereafter and was immediately administered the oath of office. In a statement posted to X, formerly Twitter, President Vance stated:
It is with great sorrow and a heavy heart that I announce the passing of President Donald J. Trump tonight. President Trump was a gallant and brave warrior who fought for the American people and the MAGA movement until his last breath. Today, I step into the enormous shoes left by the late President and gave an oath to defend and uphold the principles of our Nation as your next President. I swear to serve faithfully the American people as did President Trump. I will pray for President Trump, and our hearts go out to his family in this difficult time. Thank you, and may God bless our beautiful nation.
President Vance further announced that a state funeral would be held with full military honors for Trump in the coming weeks, with details to be announced. Flags were ordered to be lowered to half-mast until January as the nation enters a period of national mourning. Mourners will have the opportunity to view Trump's coffin in the Capitol Rotunda, with ticket sales expected to begin Monday.
News of the Trump's death comes as his approval ratings hit their lowest point yet, with 54% of Americans disapproving of his performance, according to a recently-released YouGov poll. Immediately after news of his passing broke, spontaneous demonstrations erupted in several major cities, with cheering residents filling the streets of New York and Chicago in a jubilant atmosphere amid chants of "The fascist is dead!".
President Vance strongly condemned the celebrations in a post on X, stating the gatherings show "a complete lack of respect to the family of President Trump, regardless of what you thought of his America First policies." Vance has called for order to be restored and has threatened to re-deploy the National Guard to halt the celebrations.
Congress will meet in emergency session tomorrow to discuss the implications of President Trump's passing. President Vance is expected to address the nation during a joint sitting of the Senate and the House of Representatives tomorrow.

The dropping of the charges.
Perhaps a headline of "Scrutiny of Drop of FIFA Bribery Charge After Trump Given Peace Prize" would be better?
These prosecutions are not consistent with the current prosecutorial priorities of the United States, which direct the Department of Justice’s resources into Making America Safe Again.
So charges are dropped not because he seems innocent, but because of political direction of justice now which must be focused on deporting innocent immigrants and building Reich 4.0
This administrations brand is to sell government work (or non work) for personal favours and there literally accepting “exposure” as payment to signal how normalised they made it.
If you are a big enough name they don’t care how petty the bribe is. As long as it shows the world that they are open for this kind off business.
Every bribe, no matter how small is pure profit if you never owned what you’re selling.
Thick as thieves.
This is exactly what it means.
It's not the bribery that is infuriating, it's the blatant openness of it all
haha any of the three scenarios is equally hilarious:
- They stop giving these out altogether because it's a tradition they never expected to have to do more than once
- They give it to someone else in the hopes of furthering whatever agenda they have next year
- They just keep giving it to Trump

I love how people still think this is some kind of gotcha.
MAGA will look a deported veteran in the eye and say they deserved it.
Everyone else who has any remaining trust in institutions is too busy surviving to care.
Far worse things have been confirmed about Trump and he’s still in charge between his narcolepsy.
Bloody apathetic planet, I’ve no sympathy at all.
"We will never deport veterans ... except that guy, he deserved it"
"We hate and prosecute pedophiles ... but only if they are democrats running a secret sex ring from the basement of a pizza parlor"

Latest tally shows Asfura leading NasrallaTEGUCIGALPA, Dec 10 (Reuters) - Officials of a Honduras Congress panel threatened on Wednesday not to validate the result of a Nov. 30 presidential election, citing an "electoral coup" and "interference" by U.S. President Donald Trump, as counting stretched into an 11th day.
While the ruling LIBRE leftist party has no chance of winning the election, it is throwing its support behind Salvador Nasralla, of the center-right Liberal party, who has also alleged fraud and said he has won the election.

Holy shit, my iPhone keyboard has changed size and the keys aren't quite where they were before. Is this from the latest update or did I fuck up some settings?

What if the last sentence reverses the conclusion and the structure of the exam leads you to miss it?

So I started stretching one sentence into two. Two into four. They got longer and longer. Until they read like the most brain dead, pretentious shit imaginable. And I got goooood at it. So I recognise that crap when I see it. The author did exactly the same. Fuck that guy.
