For 1st time since trade war, Canada exported more than it imported

As someone whose autism is highly monetizable I will avoid chlorine dioxide. Thank you for the tip.

Keep re-electing these ancient nut jobs and grifters, folks. I’m sure everything will be juuuuust fine.

Photos of Trump and Bubba were released? Source? I gotta see this.
in reply to ThePantser

I don't want to see it, the thought of it is vomit inducing, but I want it to be out there.

It's going to be ALL high profile predators.

That's the point of a sex trafficking ring that caters to powerful people.

Trump Is “basically shutting down the legal immigration system”

in reply to silence7

"We will stop illegal immigrants."
"These aren't illegal, they came here correctly through the proper channels."
"We will stop these loopholes and deem everyone we don't like as illegal immigrants"
"But that is unconstitutio.."
"ARREST HIM. HE'S AN ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT!"

I literally got a text saying "Breaking! Dems to pass bill making path for illegals to become legal!"
in reply to silence7

because some guy decided to do something illegal and unconscionable—shooting other people

Can we please stop this narrative that shooting an occupying army is bad?

The murders by the military in the Caribbean are war crimes or Crimes against humanity, because they murdered civilians.

But when someone shoots an armed military member, that's a valid target.

OneBC party split over staffer's 'disgusting' views on Jews, says ex-leader Brodie

The article is relatively short and has tons of stuff, highly recommend people read through it.

British Columbia legislator Dallas Brodie, whose OneBC party has removed her as leader, says the split happened after colleagues tried to stop her from firing a caucus staffer whose views on Jewish people were "disgusting" and antisemitic.

Brodie said she wanted the man removed because she is not a "neo-Nazi," and it was "obscene" to think that the man's views could be in the party.

......

Thielmann says in a social media post on Monday that he and Ratchford advised Brodie against firing the staffer, who he calls "a 22-year-old brown kid who was being made out to be a 'white supremacist'" and they instead wanted to "mentor" him.

.......

Brodie said she had clashed with the young staffer over a message he wanted to post under her name on social media platform X.

"I think it said the NDP or somebody is anti-civilizational, and that they want the province to be run on drum circles and powwows," she said.

Is this not exactly what shes been preaching on her little residential school denialism tour? Wtf

China’s exports are putting it on a collision course with EU as the bloc is set to counter flood of cheap Chinese products into it’s single market

in reply to Spaniard

Well, expect your company to be a contributing factor to the EUs loss of manufacturing capabilities and reliance of foreign compliance.

EU will become the next USA if it keeps happening. Good luck with that..

in reply to comador

EU does not have the capability to produce or even a wish to do so. If EU were to produce what we import from China, we'd have to open up the borders way more to get the workforce that is needed for that.

EU is not able to produce what it needs. I don't see how this fee should change this. In my opinion this is just a way to fill up the financial reserves for EU to keep spending money.

It is very good at spending it

On 9 December 2023, Halley's Comet reached the farthest and slowest point in its orbit from the Sun when it was travelling at 0.91 km/s (2,000 mph) with respect to the Sun.
in reply to jqubed

My mind is fully blown that the SR-71 could outrun a comet
in reply to misophonium

That’s like saying I can outrun a TGV (while it’s departing the train station)
in reply to jqubed

Eh, I get the sentiment. Nothing in space comes to a stop and most speeds are well beyond human comprehension. The Earth orbits at 67,000mph, escape velocity is like 27,000mph, the ground at the equator moves at about 1,000mph, the Voyagers are in the 30k range, and the Park Solar probe peaks over 400,000mph. So to learn that a comet is a tangible aviation speed was neat to me, at least
in reply to misophonium

The SR-71 could almost outrun the moon. Maybe it could. Claimed max 2,200mph vs average 2,288mph of the moon

Please Don’t Be a Lurker!

In the monthly server updates for lemmy.zip/piefed.zip there’s a mantra that’s repeated every month. I think it’s wonderful and can be applied to the Fediverse as a whole. [quote]If you’re new here - WELCOME! I hope you’re enjoying your time here :) Ju

One of the major things I like about lemmy is that it allows text alongside links/images - I think it's good when OPs use this as a jumping point to start conversation as well.

Epstein survivors and Senate Democrats ask for audit to determine if Epstein files have been "tampered with"

Survivors of Jeffrey Epstein's sex crimes and a group of Democratic members of Congress are asking for an independent review of the Epstein case files to determine whether any of the records have been "tampered" with or concealed, ahead of the release of those files by next week.

In a letter Thursday to the Justice Department's inspector general, Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee asked the internal watchdog to undertake a formal review to check for any "chain of custody" problems with the Epstein files.

in reply to Tony Bark

Fucking stupid to do this shit while trump is still in power...

Wait till their gone, then when you co trol the material, you can do an actual investigation.

Edit:

Pretty wild people think we should get the people who edited the Epstein files to audit the Epstein files to see if they'd been edited...

Because, and this should be obvious, if they find any evidence, they'll destroy it

Wait till they're out of power, and there's the possibility of accountability, then look for the evidence.

If they look now, we'll never find anything they find.

First of all, this is about the only thing that has the base mad at Taco. Secondly, I don't know if this guy is going to finish out his term. We also don't know when (or if) they'll be out of power - the cons have done a lot to rig elections, and quite a few of the American people are deeply stupid besides.

It's doubtful he will ever face any consequences for anything he's done in his shitty miserable life, but if we wait until he's dead or in a memory ward, it's guaranteed he won't even be the least bit embarrassed.

in reply to Tony Bark

Ah nevermind my comment.

Report: UK asks Apple & Google to implement age verification for nude image sharing

We all know that children with unrestricted access to the internet are always at risk of encountering predators. That’s why social platforms have introduced parental control tools, and governments are working on different legislations to protect children in the online space. However, the UK government is now directly demanding Google and Apple to take a stance against taking and sharing of explicit images.

Australia’s Social Media Ban Was Pushed By Ad Agency Focused On Gambling Ads It Didn’t Want Banned

We’ve talked about the Australian social media ban that went into effect last week, how dumb it is, and why it’s already a mess.

Damn, 13 BILLION years. That's a good percentage of the total lifetime of the solar system. Store an archive of all our mathematics, science, engineering, and programming knowkedge on one of those and it might end up being what we'll give the other animals that might evolve intelligence after we go extinct. We can only hope they use the knowledge better than we did.

Britain threatened to cut off ICC funding over Netanyahu arrest warrant, claims prosecutor

The British government threatened to defund the international criminal court and leave the Rome statute that set it up if it pressed ahead with plans to issue an arrest warrant against Benjamin Netanyahu, the ICC’s prosecutor, has claimed.

Karim Khan made the allegation in a submission to the court defending his decision to prosecute Israel’s prime minister.

Khan does not name the individual who made the threats, saying the call on 23 April 2024 was with a British official, but reports have suggested the caller may have been the then British foreign secretary, David Cameron. Khan said the official had argued that issuing arrest warrants against Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant, the former Israeli defence minister, was disproportionate.

in reply to HellsBelle

Threatening international human rights is a good look for the UK.

Why'd they wait so long to report this?

Canada is threatened by the US, the UK PM says nothing, and he cannot stop licking Trump's nutsack every chance he gets. It's an embarrassing betrayal.
