Trump was never convicted of sexual assault.
His 34 convictions are for campaign finance crimes.
He was found civilly liable for sexual assault, and was found as a matter of fact to have raped, but other than monitory fines in civil court, nothing legal can be done about the rapes.
Prosecuted or not, there's no way to erase their blemish from human history.
Microsoft's own AI will tell you Melinda gates indeed divorced Bill over the Epstein Island situation, for example.
There's effectively no way for them to erase the narrative. The world has been run by a cabal of pedophile elites from at least 1990 through the 2020s. This fact will remain known into the end of human history.
The news, the search engines, the social media, the LLMs...they're all owned by a small club of billionaires.
We make all these references and parallels to the surveillance state of 1984 but we forget what the protagonist's occupation is. When we read it the concept seemed absurd. How do you edit history in-place? All those newspapers, the microfiche, the libraries...there's just no way.
Nowadays, though, it seems that it would be exceptionally easy, and likely already happening. Though not as in your face as directly editing newspapers, the algorithms are no doubt tainted, as is the narrative on the evening news.
There are 1000s of open source LLMs on hugging face alone. You can download them for free and run them if your system can handle it.
Each LLM is a compressed artifact of all of human history. There is absolutely no way to control a narrative anymore. History can no longer be rewritten by the powerful.
Ask grok what it thinks of Elon musk.
Ugh I'm so sick of reading "history will judge them!" history doesn't give a shit and it's not justice in any way and all it does is placate people into thinking "at least it's some kind of punishment"
When it's not it punishment at all, like it literally doesn't matter.
The thing I'm concerned about is one of the photos they've released of Prince Andrew talking to Bill Gates.
The image is a cropped one that was taken at a Commonwealth event by Press Photographer in 2018.....when Epstein was in prison.
There's no doubting that Andrew is a nonce, but the Democrats are going to lose all credibility if they aren't doing due diligence before they release pictures.
Edit: Apparently it helps to read the full comment and not let your ADHD brain skip the middle part thst gives all of the relevant context. Shit...
How about we throw all of these fucks in prison regardless of political party? Why are you trying to muddy this with politics? I wouldn't care if it was Trump or if it was Bert and Ernie, anyone involved should be prosecuted.
Oh no! Bill Gates, another asshole billionaire is in the files? Throw him in the same dark hole as the rest of them.
Bill Clinton? Yeah, throw him in, too.
Hillary was aware and said nothing? Prison.
Barack Obama had evidence of ongoing abuse and did nothing? Believe it or not, prison.
Bernie Sanders was on the island? Yeah, prison for him, too.
Fuck all of them and fuck politicizing this issue. Anyone involved should be prosecuted.
So far it does seem to be mostly republicans but I don't expect it will remain that way. If it does, I'll be skeptical that we're getting the whole truth.

What the fuck are you even on about?
The photo has been doctored, the original from which its taken has absolutely nothing to do with Epstein and was taken during an event held in the UK.
The original has the King of England in frame and was taken by a press photographer during an international event. Not by some random guy at a grubby epstein island event.
I agree, every single person who was involved with illegal activity with Epstein should be rotting in prison, regardless of who they are.
But showing edited images isn't going to get us there and simply casts doubt on everything else.
I'm talking about... Shit... I read two thirds of your comment and my ADHD brain skipped the middle part. THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!
Shit... Sorry, without the middle context your comment made it sound like you wanted democrats to cover up inclusion of democrats in the files.
These pictures all came from Epstein's estate. I think you have hit the nail on the head, though. He would hold parties on his private island, have his own photographers there taking pictures, and then hold the pictures in case they became useful collateral at some point.
It worked well for Epstein, until it didn't.
Epstein was Mossad, Trump ran an identical underage model trafficking ring that was linked to the KGB.
They weren't business partners, but instead friendly competitors with overlap, particularly the guy who secured the fake visas that the girls were in the US under. Paolo Zampolli, former owner of ID models, The Trump Director of international development, and currently appointed to the UN by Trump.
Ghislaine Maxwell's father was a confirmed Mossad asset: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_M…
Epstein himself has quite a few direct connections as well:

It’s really about control and power. Get as many people as possible to identify with your in-group by othering an out-group. Racism is one way. Anti-immigration broadens the out-group and in-group pools and can even lure in minorities into your in-group.
With enough in-group support you can consolidate power and do whatever the fuck you want. It never works for long but these people are cowards and cowards don’t think about the long-term.
True. The racism has been a key component in keeping the division going, but more recently, trans and inter-generational nonsense has been thrown in.
The trans aspect has given them a LOT of traction in the past ten years or so, since they lost on the gay marriage thing. It probably led to where we are right now, in fact. People like Megyn Kelly said it was their #1 concern. Imagine that - number one out of all the things to be concerned with. She might just be cosplaying for dollars like all these right wing bullshit artists, but still - I'm sure lots of the right are positively obsessed with the "issue" of trans.
We'll see how the inter-generational warfare plays out for them. It seems to be going pretty well so far, since I see lots and lots of the so-called "left" falling for this shit, too. The inter-generational stuff might be more about trying to fracture the left than it is about distracting the right, but we'll see how it plays out.
Less competition for American workers(similar story for tariffs). There is a reason for unemployment is so low and that is mainly that the US is loosing population to migration, which has not been the case for basically ever. The issue is that the trade war is hurting the US economy, so workers do not really benefit from it.
At the same time capitalist like it to a degree, as it makes migrants much more dependent on their jobs, then American workers. As in visas often depend on having a job.
Obviously capitalists still want migrants to exploit.
There is a reason for unemployment is so low
According to whom? Because I'm extremely skeptical of literally everything that comes from this administration.
Racism is what motivates most of conservatism.
Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
Well they've certainly fucked up tourism.
I'm not going anywhere near America again until 2029.
You're projecting competence. That plan is about 4 layers too deep for them
They have no plan to survive the midterms, let alone stabilize their rule. They're not even deporting more people than Biden was, the bottleneck is still the number of judges. The ICE facilities are all full
The plan is, give right wing terrorist groups guns and tell them to get wacky with it. Oh, and make sure we get some tik tok footage
It's all that straightforward.
Did you know we accidentally invaded Mexico a few weeks back? Like, full on beach assault style. And then sheepishly packed up when the "fog of war" cleared
The master plan isn't project 2025 - that's a wishlist from crazy Technocracy people
No, the master plan is to loot the government and get away with it by earning favors from the oligarchs
The cabinet has already sold their homes to live on military bases... Does that sound like a long term plan? Or does it sound like a rat waiting for a good time to cut and run?
"These aren't illegal, they came here correctly through the proper channels."
"We will stop these loopholes and deem everyone we don't like as illegal immigrants"
"But that is unconstitutio.."
"ARREST HIM. HE'S AN ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT!"
because some guy decided to do something illegal and unconscionable—shooting other people
Can we please stop this narrative that shooting an occupying army is bad?
The murders by the military in the Caribbean are war crimes or Crimes against humanity, because they murdered civilians.
But when someone shoots an armed military member, that's a valid target.
OneBC party split over staffer's 'disgusting' views on Jews, says ex-leader Brodie
The article is relatively short and has tons of stuff, highly recommend people read through it.
British Columbia legislator Dallas Brodie, whose OneBC party has removed her as leader, says the split happened after colleagues tried to stop her from firing a caucus staffer whose views on Jewish people were "disgusting" and antisemitic.Brodie said she wanted the man removed because she is not a "neo-Nazi," and it was "obscene" to think that the man's views could be in the party.
......
Thielmann says in a social media post on Monday that he and Ratchford advised Brodie against firing the staffer, who he calls "a 22-year-old brown kid who was being made out to be a 'white supremacist'" and they instead wanted to "mentor" him.
.......
Brodie said she had clashed with the young staffer over a message he wanted to post under her name on social media platform X."I think it said the NDP or somebody is anti-civilizational, and that they want the province to be run on drum circles and powwows," she said.

UK: Exiled Hong Kong activist target of harassment campaign containing fake, sexually explicit images of her sent to her neighbours
cross-posted from: mander.xyz/post/43508884
Web archive linkA high-profile Hong Kong pro-democracy activist living in the UK has been the target of a harassment campaign involving letters containing fake, sexually explicit images of her sent to her neighbours.
Carmen Lau, 30, told the BBC she was "shocked" as the letters, delivered to addresses in Maidenhead from China, included her name and images made to look like she was either naked or in underwear and offering sexual services.
"The letters had a couple of very unpleasant images, AI-generated or photo-shopped... portraying me as a sex worker," she said.
Ms Lau is among thousands of Hong Kong residents to seek sanctuary in the UK following the imposition of a controversial new national security law.
The city had been a British colony until 1997, when it was handed to China on the proviso it retained its democratic autonomy for the following 50 years.
...
Ms Lau moved to the UK in 2021 and has continued her advocacy work, frequently criticising China's Communist leadership and speaking out about China's controversial plans to build a "mega embassy" in London, warning that it could become a base for trans-national repression of China's critics abroad.
...
"When I was in Hong Kong, pro-Beijing agents were trained to use gender-based harassment targeting pro-democracy activists," she said.
"But AI technology has enhanced this sort of intimidation. It is beyond just transnational repression - as a woman, it is very worrying."
Last year, up to a dozen of the same neighbours in Berkshire had received letters sent from Hong Kong, purporting to come from the police, offering a bounty payment of £95,000 to anyone who would hand Ms Lau over to the Chinese embassy in London.
The new letters - the existence of which was first reported by the Guardian - were sent last month from the Chinese territory of Macau, close to Hong Kong.
Another activist, Ted Hui, and his wife, who now live in Australia, have also been targeted with similar letters, the newspaper reports.
...
Reynolds told the BBC that the government needed "to be very clear that this is not acceptable, we cannot have these letters sent to UK residents".
"We need to find out who sent these letters," he said, adding: "Officials in Beijing need to be held accountable."
Reynolds said he had raised the issue with both the Home Office and the Foreign Office.
A government spokesperson said: "The safety and security of Hong Kongers in the United Kingdom is of the utmost importance."
Thames Valley Police, meanwhile, said it was investigating reports of a malicious communications offence involving digitally altered images.
"We are engaging with the victim and, at this time, no arrests have been made," a spokesperson said.
...
The UK government has previously insisted that any attempt by a foreign power to intimidate, harass or harm individuals or communities would not be tolerated.
It has said the UK continues to raise concerns about transnational repression directly with the Chinese and Hong Kong authorities, and has publicly condemned the issuing of arrest warrants and bounties by the Hong Kong Police Force.

China’s exports are putting it on a collision course with EU as the bloc is set to counter flood of cheap Chinese products into it’s single market
cross-posted from: mander.xyz/post/43508565
Archive link...
The scale of the imbalances with the European Union was thrown into stark relief days ago when Beijing disclosed its trade surplus with the bloc had widened to a record approaching $300 billion in 2025. The value of China’s exports to the EU is now more than double its imports, as Chinese sellers divert goods facing levies in the US.
...
“The China shock in Europe is really starting to hit,” said Andrew Small, director of the Asia program at the European Council on Foreign Relations. “What you’ve now had in recent months has been much greater levels of urgency, not all of it playing out in public, but serious crisis meetings taking place.”
The result could be the biggest rethink of EU policy toward Beijing in at least a decade, according to Small, who previously advised von der Leyen on China. Sidetracked for years by the war in Ukraine and, more recently, by Donald Trump’s tariffs, the EU is finally focusing on China, preparing what Small describes as a “pent-up” mix of measures.
...
The bloc unveiled a plan earlier this month to ensure its industries aren’t overtaken by global rivals, as competition intensifies with the US and China. The European Commission, the EU’s executive arm, has also proposed setting up an economic security hub to better navigate trade tensions and counter the threat of cheap products flooding the bloc’s single market.
...
Time is short for Europe. Economists at Goldman Sachs Group Inc estimate competition from Chinese exports will cut gains in German, Spanish and Italian gross domestic product by 0.2 percentage point or more from next year through 2029.
The fallout from China’s exports might extend to almost a third of euro-area employment, according to economists at the European Central Bank, meaning it could possibly affect more than 50 million jobs.
...
“External hostility toward goods exported by China will escalate, particularly in Europe,” said Stephen Jen, chief executive of London-based hedge fund Eurizon SLJ Capital. “This configuration of explosive trade and a cheap renminbi cannot be sustained.”
For China, there is little alternative. The EU’s $20 trillion economy is among the few markets big enough to absorb the goods it used to ship to the US.
...
Propelling its exports is a currency undervalued in the view of many economists, making exports cheaper and imports more expensive. The yuan hit a decade low against the euro earlier this year.
“One of the real reasons that Chinese exports are going so fast is that the renminbi is very significantly undervalued relative to the euro,” said EU Chamber of Commerce in China President Jens Eskelund, using an alternative name for the currency. This acts as a “subsidy” for exports and suppresses Chinese consumers’ purchasing power, he said.
...
China is now taking 7% of EU exports but supplying almost a quarter of all imports from outside the bloc. China’s deficit with the EU and the UK now accounts for nearly a third of its total trade differential with the world, which exceeded $1 trillion for the first time.
...
In 2019, China ran a $25 billion deficit with Europe’s biggest economy. In the first 11 months of this year, that’s flipped to a $23 billion surplus due to the collapse in imports.
...
As pressure builds to mount a response, countries could “not only use existing trade tools, like anti-dumping duties, but also develop new tools and approaches for addressing what is turning into a serious and unsustainable situation,” said Wendy Cutler, a former senior US trade negotiator now at the Asia Society Policy Institute.
“We could see the EU and others take further measures to limit Chinese imports during the coming year,” she said.
China Forces Reckoning in Europe as Trade Turns Existential
China’s exports are putting it on a collision course with Europe.Bloomberg
Well, expect your company to be a contributing factor to the EUs loss of manufacturing capabilities and reliance of foreign compliance.
EU will become the next USA if it keeps happening. Good luck with that..
EU does not have the capability to produce or even a wish to do so. If EU were to produce what we import from China, we'd have to open up the borders way more to get the workforce that is needed for that.
EU is not able to produce what it needs. I don't see how this fee should change this. In my opinion this is just a way to fill up the financial reserves for EU to keep spending money.
It is very good at spending it

Who would buy it: Collectors, because "commemorative." And apparently parents/loved ones of children, because it's a toy car. I take it you had fun playing with it as a kid? If so, I'd say it did its job. Those little comet decals seem to have helped form strong memories of it.

Lemmy.zip & Piefed.zip Server Update December 2025
Hello all, Demigodrick here.
I have to let you in on a secret. I've never touched a computer in my life. I don't actually know what the internet is. I write these posts by pinning notes to carrier pigeons and scaring them away. Somehow ~~life~~ these posts... uh... finds a way.
Truth be told, I'm kind of short on time these days. In a bid to bring these posts back on track in a timely manner, I've outsourced this post to a colony of extremely motivated ants. They’ve unionised since, so I’m now contractually obliged to publish whatever they write.
Server Updates
Lemmy.zip
We are still in our Lemmy 1.0 holding pattern, with me too afraid to write any zippy code in case something breaks and I have to go back over that uncommented clusterfuck that I mashed together.
The battle against scrapers continues.
Here's a little screenshot of how much bot traffic we're identifying and challenging vs how many humans get caught up in this:
As you can see, this shows that while some people do get caught up, the rules we've implemented work really well at keeping bots at bay. Mostly.
If you see an error screen it's probably a scraper taking us down :(
Piefed.zip
We're still keeping Piefed.zip on the dev branch, but we are considering swapping to the next stable version. If you're a Piefed.zip user, thoughts on this would be much appreciated. Development on Piefed is fast, which means you get new features quicker on the dev branch, but also more bugs and quirks.
Please Don’t Be a Lurker!
If you’re new here - WELCOME! I hope you’re enjoying your time here :)
Just one small teeny-tiny request. The greatest gift you can give Lemmy.zip and Piefed.zip isn’t money, praise, or interpretive dance (although we would absolutely accept the last one). Its participation.
Upvote the things you like. Start a discussion, debate, or ponder about whether water is wet or merely makes things wet. Make new communities if you don’t see one that fits your oddly specific niche obsession.
(We don’t judge. Well, we try not to judge anyway.)
The fediverse naturally ebbs and flows, tides of people come and go. But if you’ve found yourself oddly attached to this strange little corner of the internet? Wonderful. Help it breathe. Help it grow. Help it be just a tiny bit weirder in the best possible way.
So if you’ve gone to the effort of clicking Sign Up and proving you’re not a robot (unless you are, in which case hello and welcome to our new AI overlords), then please, I beg of you:
Stick around. Add your voice. It really does make this place better.

And there we have it. Another month has passed. The next time I do this, it will be 2026! I reflected 12 months ago that doing this end of year update for a second year was, and I quote, "fucking nuts". As I now do this third time, I am floored by how much things have changed in the space of 12 months, and yet comforted by how many of you I see around Lemmy and have got to know over all of this time. Since I did that post last year, Lemmy.zip has changed into a real not for profit business. What a learning curve that was but monumental in the longevity of this site. We saw the loss of lemm.ee, but this brought many people over to DotZip who've hopefully found a new home. We set up Piefed.zip, which has been steadily growing all this time too!
I want to put out a genuine thank you to everyone who uses one of our sites. None of us are doing this for any reason other than wanting to create the best space possible, free from advertising and tracking, and all of your efforts, whether creating regular posts, moderating communities, or even just the odd upvote, means so much to me. It still excites me seeing a .zip user in the wild :)
I hope you have a lovely and restful period over the end of this year, and that you get to spend time with those that you love.
See you all next year!

Contribtions to the fediverse are unwelcome in most popular spaces.
Unless you are just upvoting things.
If you are new you will be heavily scrutinized, and if the community owners don't love you instantly then your account goes in the "bot pile"
Makes it hard to want to participate when most relevant posts you make get removed and the mods ban you because they decide they don't like being embarrased when they're shitty.
This is not my experience at all.
If you are being shitty that may be different. I do not see much of this for people who are engaging, particularly ones engaging like adults or at least good-natured.

Well idk what to tell you.
Being shitty is subjective and if a mod doesn't like someone using a space for what it's for then it breeds this environment.
Dismissing and invalidating people with genuine concerns is also not how we get more people to contribute.

Because the fediverse is still fairly small, downvotes stick out a lot more. A number of them I think, "How could anybody downvote that?" and just wonder because often they seem to be "I had a shitty day and I particularly don't like YOU" downvotes.
I often sort a thread by Top, and even the highest voted posts are often +(big number) -1. Because I personally do not downvote without cause, I assume they are sincere, but then it becomes a question of why, and I could never figure it out. Okay, whatever, no biggie.
But recently I had some time on my hands and I am aware of lemvotes.org, so one day I saw this again and decided to just informally start looking up these weird ass loner downvotes. Nothing sustained, just whenever one stuck out to me as being why??? I'd go and look it up. I've been doing this for roughly 2-3 months now, no schedule or commitment other than whenever I felt like it, across the board, no attention paid to community or post content (other than anything political pretty much not being worth the trouble, lol).
What I expected was a variety of usernames attached to these single downvotes.
But what I saw was a core handful of users across the board, with the occasional outlier.
Kinda pathetic, honestly.
Not really. I physically don't have the energy. Can't speak for the person above, but most of the time, I just can't interact here without having to take a break. Like. Lay down and close my eyes break. (I'm okay now, if you couldn't tell.)
To others, I'm chronically ill, but not being able to interact here doesn't make you less valid. Lurking is fine too. This post is a call to arms but if you can't answer it don't. Your health comes first.
Upvoting and downvoting is appreciated if you have the energy for that, but don't feel pressured.
I'm still just figuring out how fediverse / lemmy work, but I do get bored sometimes because of the lack of content, so I guess I'm part of the problem. I'll try to be more involved.
I've been trying to think of a good (for the lack of knowing the correct verbiage) 'subreddit' to start, but they all seem too specific for the amount of users on Lemmy. Also I wouldn't know how to start one. Comment down below any tips. Thanks!
I started posting by picking the communuty for the place i live and trying to post local and independent media and special interest groups articles about/in the context of that place.
Its benefits are,
- It creates activity on the fediverse that is unique, and the more interesting for it.
- You'll be promoting the voices of those less often heard.
- You can also help local and independent media with readers and exposure. Its seen as more of an offline problem of media concentration, but i think theres online solutions for the surviving publications.
If you look through my history you'll see my posts to c/Perth/WesternAustralia there are ebbs and flows in interest but the key point is when something happens, say a protest, or a pub banning some nazis the community is there ready for the users, active and established.
If you go to the sidebar of that community, and all the communities i moderate i have gathered in each a host of resources for people to refer to for articles and information in regards each of those communities. It also helps me to have easy access to those publishers as i look for something i find interesting.
So i don't know what city or State you live in, but if theres a place based server, or a generalist server that hosts a community for it, i'd start posting there. If it looks abandoned maybe jump onto that servers c/meta and request to become the moderator. That'll give you the ability to change things like the sidebar and participate in managing misbehaviour if/when users post things off topic/against the rules for the community.
See you in fediverse ;)
Edit: oh, also posting is a piece of active fun, instead of waiting passivley for something to entertain you. So its fun in a different way to scrolling feeds, or commenting.
You don't have to start your own community (lemmy's subreddit) if you feel it is too niche. Find or start a broder one where your niche content will fit. That way, your content has a home and more lemming will be attracted to it.
If you want to start your own community, you can only do it on your home instance: reddthat.com
One valuable way to grow Lemmy: pick a feed that interests you, even if it's got almost no traffic, and just start posting on it.
Whether you source your posts from equivalent subreddits, or other social media, or from relevant articles you come across in the news, you can - through 10-15 minutes per day of direct action - quickly create a valuable feed for others.
Much like how the best way to grow an in-person gathering is to commit to just keep showing up for a while, even if it's only you. It works in the fediverse too.
This is not a personal account, it's one for a site I'm building. I know many won't like that as it might come as spammy, corporate or whatever, but I have decided to use Lemmy as a place for discussion -in a related community- and Mastodon as the one for news and updates (together with old good RSS) and I have done it because I believe in a federated web.
I'm tired of walled gardens and billionaire-run feuds -and every web loading endless MBs of scripts from a dozen of third-parties (I mean, sometimes it can be justified, like on very complex sites... but not on a damn text blog, come on!)- or not working with my OS/browser of choice... and I want the Fediverse to keep growing and become not only a viable alternative but -and here I'm just daydreaming, I know- the default.
And to this point this post made me realize that it won't happen on its own -not the way most people are, anyway- and that we/I need to put more effort on it. I'm culprit of just signing up and... well, waiting. And that won't work. So thank you from bringing this matter to me, and I'll try to do my part from now on, if not with this account with a personal one.

Sometimes I debate on making a comment, and sometimes I simply don't have the energy to complete one. But sometimes, I think, "every comment grows Lemmy a little bit more" and decide, fuck it, I'll say something. People might like it, people might not like it, but you never know what can grow from such a little spark.
I appreciate Lemmy in this regard. We live in a world with many voices trying to drown out each other for a bit of public attention. It's enough to make some people think their own thoughts aren't worthy and to stay silent, discounting their potential contributions. Having a platform that's low-stakes, where people aren't chasing internet fame, gives many of us an opportunity to express ourselves for the sake of expressing ourselves. Having this outlet is vital for many of us. I'm glad to be a part of this community, and it is truly a community. I have no idea if anyone recognizes me, but I definitely recognize other frequent commenters. It's almost like we're neighbors, not in physical proximity, but with a shared gathering space to meet and share our thoughts.
And I love that.
Just one small teeny-tiny request. The greatest gift you can give the Fediverse (Original: Lemmy.zip and Piefed.zip) isn’t money, praise, or interpretive dance (although we would absolutely accept the last one). Its participation.
Participation awards are given out here, this is just that kind of degenerate place where that kind of stuff happens. I have seen the underground storehouses filled with participation trophies made of solid platinum and gold under some of the larger instances, it is staggering. We are the deplorably thanked for participating, witness us in our moral decay.

I think on the whole, we do a little better at this than other platforms. Does depend on the subject, but I see more positive, respectful interactions here than I do elsewhere.
Always a good reminder though!
i've always found mastodon unintuitive, mostly because older versions used to not have a "local" feed, only a global feed,
and i think a charm of the fediverse is to have local instances, like for specific topics. and they added that local feed recently, which i like

Don't worry about it, in places like Instagram and YouTube - even twitter and R*ddit - people are leaving comments like "bro said [thing previous commenter said]"
And that's fine! Let's be social and authentic and just happy that there aren't bots pretending to be people here
Yeah honestly there’s no point adding meaningless chatter either
I like peas and mashed potatos.
I appreciate your concern for the quality of your contributions, and I think this place has a higher proportion of that type of user than just about any other platform.
This place is small and it's generally friendly and inclusive. Most comments won't get any replies, but the ones that do will generally be constructive. The users here are into the whole idea of the social contract and that we can have something nice if we are just excellent to one another.
I repeatedly say "generally" because this is an open platform and assholes are allowed to join. The assholes can even have their own instance dedicated to asshole topics! But fortunately the instances and communities are generally moderated by actual decent humans who are much like the users!
So let that knowledge help you comment more, not less! Even if you get no comments and like 5 upvotes, it actually feels like something of value even if it's just a nod from a few decent people.
Edit: part of the conclusion was supposed to be that you can consider comments more like a discussion with people and not some strict message board.
I second that!
I'm out here trying to get a group going all by myself 😅 I'd be super grateful if someone broke the ice

They might be more common than you think!
Lemmy/PieFed isn't all US and EU. People from all kinds of places can be found here.
These single downvotes were never followed up by further commentary, and at least one of them looks like a voting-only account with zero posts, so the more I looked the more they just seemed like fuck you votes.
I really don't think there's any link to content at all because I did this across multiple communities (whatever I don't have actively blocked that crosses my feed) and it was largely the same handful of downvoters throughout, but with outliers here and there. I wasn't taking notes, but when I started to see the same names over and over in wildly disparate communities it seemed less and less likely it had anything to do with content.
I think blanket downvoting happens regularly in political communities and discussions, and a lot of time you can see it without even looking up any votes: if every single comment in a six-comment thread has two downvotes and three upvotes, it's pretty clear. I looked those political ones up a few times but don't even bother anymore. Everywhere else, by which I mean non-political and/or non-controversial topics, it genuinely seems to be just a core handful of users.
And no, you're not an outlier, just a decent person. I like to think most of us vote for actual cause, and that it's only a handful who don't. But at some point I do think the admins are going to have to deal with it, because downvoting just to downvote IS toxic and does tend to have a stifling effect on the discussion and community as a whole.
I get most of my stuff from Facebook. Since most of you refuse to go there, it really keeps my content fresh 😁
More seriously, since most of my stuff is from non-profits and photographers, it's still the number one place these people share their stuff since it's free, easy, and has a built in wide audience.
Other than that, I look for owls in the Google news page once a week, I look up old research papers or read books, I volunteered at a rehab clinic to learn more and get photos and stories, and I go to events and talk with people that work with owls.
I think the most important thing is that I'm genuinely interested in the subject, so even if social media vanished tomorrow, I would've stop doing anything I do to source content, I just wouldn't be posting. I just post because I think you guys will like it and hopefully donate or volunteer yourselves.

I don't know what else anyone is waiting for. At what point do we get a file drop that results in anything other than Ghislaine Maxwell getting a pardon? This feels like people coming in after the "Grab'em By The Pussy" video in 2016 insisting that there's a second, even more secret, even more derogatory film that Hillary refused to produce, but which would definitely have won her the election.
Fucking stupid to do this shit while trump is still in power...
Wait till their gone, then when you co trol the material, you can do an actual investigation.
Edit:
Pretty wild people think we should get the people who edited the Epstein files to audit the Epstein files to see if they'd been edited...
Because, and this should be obvious, if they find any evidence, they'll destroy it
Wait till they're out of power, and there's the possibility of accountability, then look for the evidence.
If they look now, we'll never find anything they find.
First of all, this is about the only thing that has the base mad at Taco. Secondly, I don't know if this guy is going to finish out his term. We also don't know when (or if) they'll be out of power - the cons have done a lot to rig elections, and quite a few of the American people are deeply stupid besides.
It's doubtful he will ever face any consequences for anything he's done in his shitty miserable life, but if we wait until he's dead or in a memory ward, it's guaranteed he won't even be the least bit embarrassed.

That’s why social platforms have introduced parental control tools, and governments are working on different legislations to protect children in the online space. However, the UK government is now directly demanding Google and Apple to take a stance against taking and sharing of explicit images.

Still, I'm in. I'm concerned about long term storage of family photos and documents. Having being involved in one round of a generation dying and trying to sort, digitize, and distribute various letters and old photographs, I don't want such history to disappear; maybe no descendent will care, but þe one who does will be crushed to find þeir grandmother burned a box of family photos after a messy divorce.

All that said, I agree that we need stable long term storage, my point is that billion year storage is just a fantasy spec. It looks good to investors, but doesnt hold up to reality.

Sudan • Tracing the mysterious combat drone supply chain in civil war
Serbia 🇷🇸 as an emerging "autonomous ecosystem" for the assembly, modification and remanufacturing of Chinese 🇨🇳 drones for the Sudan 🇸🇩 conflict via UAE 🇦🇪:
Africa Intelligence revealed a complex UCAV supply chain in Sudan 🇸🇩, after the analysis of the rest of a drone used by the RSF in December 2024. The drones used by the RSF, identified as CH-92/CH-95 🇨🇳 models, were not simply Chinese-made: they show clear signs of assembly, modification, or partial re-manufacturing inside Serbia 🇷🇸.
Serial numbers, hardpoint markings first seen at Serbia’s 🇷🇸 2023 Military Show, 2023-dated parts, and Czech 🇨🇿 Woodcomp propellers all indicate integration work outside China 🇨🇳.
Africa Intelligence reports that these UCAVs were assembled in Serbia 🇷🇸, then routed through the UAE 🇦🇪 before being moved via Libya 🇱🇾 or Kenya 🇰🇪 and delivered to the RSF through Nyala airport, Sudan 🇸🇩.
This chain suggests a covert network enabling advanced UCAVs that shifted the battlefield balance in El-Fasher and Babnousa, causing devastating strikes.

Britain threatened to cut off ICC funding over Netanyahu arrest warrant, claims prosecutor
The British government threatened to defund the international criminal court and leave the Rome statute that set it up if it pressed ahead with plans to issue an arrest warrant against Benjamin Netanyahu, the ICC’s prosecutor, has claimed.
Karim Khan made the allegation in a submission to the court defending his decision to prosecute Israel’s prime minister.
Khan does not name the individual who made the threats, saying the call on 23 April 2024 was with a British official, but reports have suggested the caller may have been the then British foreign secretary, David Cameron. Khan said the official had argued that issuing arrest warrants against Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant, the former Israeli defence minister, was disproportionate.

Karim Khan makes allegation in court submission while defending decision to prosecute Israeli prime minister in 2024Patrick Wintour (The Guardian)
The thing that's crazy here, and that imo clearly shows that this is a 100% political, manipulative move, is that it's a court. They don't just grab people and declare people guilty or flip coins or something. A trial can end in a "not guilty" verdict. That's the point.
There is only one reason to threaten a court: if you already know beyond any doubt that whoever is accused of something is guilty AND you don't like the outcome and consequences of a guilty verdict.
