Is there a big earthquake coming to turkey?

Hey guys,

So I’m flying to turkey december 24th 2025, and returning January 5. I’m honestly very worried and have been hearing things about a bigger earthquake coming / expected to hit Istanbul. I’m scared. I only saw like 3-5 websites with this information and mentioning things like estimated 50k casualties. I have a booked rhinoplasty and I’m so nervous now. I’m going with my family and I can’t stop thinking of it. I’m already petrified of the plane and surgery itself and now the earthquakes ontop? Idk what we should
Do or how to calm down.

in reply to anonymouscanadianchick

It is impossible to predict earthquakes. Anyone claiming to be able to do that is full off shit.

I'm assuming just a few minutes 'prediction' as the slip and slide of the crust starts breaking through the tension.

Edit: Just realised this was posted in WorldNews. Asklemmy would have been more appropriate.

More like seconds, I think. Definitely not days and weeks.
in reply to Lumidaub

Some data and research seems to be pointing to potential prediction within the hour or two: science.org/content/article/wa…
in reply to Lumidaub

Yeah... so OP, any chance you're willing to link sources so I can block them from my searches?
in reply to anonymouscanadianchick

I'm not sure you're going to find an earthquake calendar, but Turkey is Turkey, so you never know...

Muslims in India largely do not like or vote for BJP. Having to type this out is surreal. I hope you are trolling.

Are you sure Muslims aren't actually secretly all supporters of the "kill Muslims" party? /s

Strava Fediverse alternative

Hey,

I'm looking for the Fediverse alternative of Strava.
Something which could :
- track running/walking, etc, with maps
- track workout without map (like bodybuilding, etc.)
- sharing with friends, with ActivityPub
- have history, and totals of activities, like total of kms, total of hours per activities, etc.

I've found those, but:

wanderer.to -> not really to record workouts, running etc. This looks like to have a catalog of trail maps

intervals.icu -> not with ActivityPub

Fittrackee.org -> not with ActivityPub, and looks only for travelling sports, not for sports without maps.

Have you any clue ?

Strava Fediverse alternative

in reply to bonegakrejg

I was looking at that for biking or walks. Does it work well even without a map?
in reply to Echolynx

Yeah the map part is separate, it also just gives stats as numbers and graphs. It would probably be good for biking and walking.
in reply to bonegakrejg

That would do for my needs. I don't care for the map or route, just time and distance.
in reply to maaaaaaaaat

endurain might be able tot be combines with Fitotrack or Opentrack tot get an steava-like experience?

in reply to SamuelRJankis

Is this good because prices will decrease or bad because people are out on the street?
in reply to MacroCyclo

theoretically, rents should decrease eventually as the real estate moguls start feeling the stress of economic downturn themselves (not sure if canada as a bunch of bullshit tax writeoffs/incentives, to help real estate speculators, like the US does).
in reply to SamuelRJankis

Doesn't this just mean that houses appreciate in value sufficiently that vacancy does not necessarily lead to losing money on the property?

in reply to ☆ Yσɠƚԋσʂ ☆

Not so strange, mathematic and concept of numbers is inherent of any living beeings with an basic intelligence, Corvids for eg, even understand the concept of zero.

Wait... I thought FIFA was in bed with the Saudis... Do the Saudis that control FIFA hate the Saudis that just bought EA??
in reply to RightHandOfIkaros

The deal with FIFA fell through before the Saudi takeover was on the cards, and, AFAIK, they haven't finalized the takeover yet.

In theory, now that this news is out, they could still ask FIFA to wait and not sign with Netflix now on the promise they'll pay more later, who knows.

Kinda like how Paramount tried to fuck over Netflix in the Warner Bros. deal.

Syrian-Australian Muslim halts Indian-Australian ISIL Attack on Jewish Australians

Syrian-Australian Muslim halts Indian-Australian ISIL Attack on Jewish Australians

Juan Cole
12/16/2025

The disdain for mindless violence exhibited by most of the world’s 2 billion Muslims is exemplified by Ahmed al-Ahmed. He interrupted the negative stereotypes of Muslims so powerfully that white nationalists spread false allegations that he was actually a British IT specialist with a Christian name. Others attempted to maintain that he was a Christian Lebanese, which his name makes impossible. The New York Times declined to mention his religion. That there should have been a Muslim Schindler, a hero who followed the toleration promoted by the Prophet Muhammad, was so insupportable to Islamophobes that they felt constrained to make up fantasies and obscure reality.

The Gaza genocide weighs heavily over the Bondi Beach attacks, but it shouldn’t. ISIL shot up Paris in 2015 before the recent Gaza conflict, and massacred Shiite cadets in Iraq.

in reply to Peter Link

Maybe dont throw a terrorist party on a beach? Just an idea.
