Israel kills 29, including children, in new Gaza ceasefire violation

At least 29 Palestinians, including at least six children, have been killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza City and Khan Younis in the Gaza Strip since dawn, according to medical sources speaking to Al Jazeera.

The violence comes a day before Israel is due to reopen the Rafah crossing, which links Gaza with Egypt, on Sunday for the first time since May 2024.

Mahmoud Basal, the spokesman of the Palestinian Civil Defence in Gaza, has told Al Jazeera that most of those killed in Israeli attacks today are children.

Look for the empire to ramp up the deaths the more Epstein docs come out.

I was all for the guy before Trudeau left the picture.

But I'm not that smart, so I fell for his tactics.

I don't think he's the guy for the job,

but then again, who is?

in reply to Quilotoa

A literal loser who got his seat spoon fed back to him is the conservative messiah? A smart mouthed career politician who hasn't worked a day in his life for those hard working "salt of the earth" trad family types always blows my mind. I'm tired of the yapping. Given the current economical state I'd always choose the career banker over this.

With the recent "spotify hack", can one now easily get songs from that hack?

So, there was a "spotify hack" recently, from Anna's Archive, as we all know. My question is:

  • Has the songs from that hack been made available? Can one easily get these songs? Say, I want song X from artist Y. Can I search and download?
in reply to amos

It's interesting how music streaming has become so dominant in the public consciousness now that the first thought of new pirates is "how can I download from a streaming service?" rather than just downloading music through the same P2P mechanisms that have existed for decades. It's like music just doesn't exist outside of streaming for younger generations.
in reply to amos

Search on Soulseek or good ol' Gnutella... or use SpotiFLAC (which downloads from Tidal, Amazon or Qobuz).

Davos Never Learns: The Cluelessness of the Powerful

in reply to Sepia

Ah yes, the Davos Elite, the usual conspiracy scapegoats.

The same group that is organizing the "You will Own Nothing" plot and force you to eat bugs and be locked up in your 15 minute prison.

Lots of topics are brought up at the WEF. Even Trump's word salad of a "speech" got polite applause from those who stayed to the end but I doubt the Davos Elite agreed with his message that the USA needs full ownership of Greenland and Europe can't function without the USA.

Can someone define the differences/commonalities between the Davos Elite and the Laurentian Elite? Is Trudeau the common factor? It's hard for me to keep up with the conspiracy villains.

Freshly re-approved CPC leader Pierre Poilievre will protect Canada from the globalist WEF elites:

Way to ignore the trade deals he also made with South Korea, Europe and South East Asia.

Is there any Fediverse project aimed at creating a safe space for kids to interact within?

cross-posted from: lemmy.world/post/42450990

Features I can think of:
- a system for stricter content moderation, especially something that would automatically delete NSFW/NSFL posts,
- no direct messaging,
- some kind of tool for moderators to efficiently review content,
- multi-layered access to an account to allow for parental control,
- time management tool that would not be based on the client, but with the session duration calculated through interactions.

What do you expect that to do, on a technical level?

Because if all you want to do is the societal result, you can use any existing backend and configure it to disable federation except with other servers with the same goal. Unclear what you are trying to achieve.

in reply to schnurrito

Well, already knowing if anything like what you described exists it would be great.

Also, maybe an application or instances that would have implemented:
- a system for stricter content moderation, especially something that would automatically delete NSFW/NSFL posts,
- no direct messaging,
- some kind of tool for moderators to efficiently review content,
- multi-layered access to an account to allow for parental control,
- time management tool that would not be based on the client, but with the session duration calculated through interactions.

Thanks for your observation, I will add these ideas to the post description.

in reply to biofaust

There isn't, the only posibility is creating an own instance of Mastodon or whatever, where you can implement the corresponding rules and filters for kids.
The fediverse as such can't never be safe for kids, due to it's own structure if safe instances are federated with such which are not family safe.
blog.elenarossini.com/gotosoci…

Alternatively social media, specific for kids

internetmatters.org/resources/…

It is always needed to educate the kids about the risks and for an correct and safe behavior in the network, using safe search engines, eg.SwissCows, private and family safe by design.

U.S. ambassador gives prime minister the cover he needs to cut Canada’s F-35 order

The F-35 is a poison pill for Canadian defence sovereignty against a hostile America. We cannot win against an invasion, but with the Gripen we can make it a phyrric victory for them.
in reply to rekabis

I sometimes point to the F35 sales as an example of what it means to be an America ally, as China would never sell this level of weaponry to anybody.

It is amazing how fast Trump is dismantling the partnerships that helped maintain peace.

in reply to MrSpArkle

You get planes that can't fly in the rain at an insane price?
in reply to rekabis

Your “friend” is threatening you. To invade your airspace and also…they don’t need anything from you.

What a bunch of moronic bullies.

Enough is enough, let them fall on their own sword. Canada can do without a friend like that.

Ode to the AA Battery

Great post, IMO: In a world of 'planned obsolescence' where devices are frequently bricked by non-replaceable, unmanaged Li-ion pouches that over-discharge and die, the universal AA(A) standard is bliss.

UK police to use AI facial recognition tech linked to Israel’s war on Gaza

The United Kingdom’s controversial rollout of facial recognition technology will rely on software that appears to have already been deployed in Gaza, where it is used by the Israeli army to track, trace, and abduct thousands of Palestinian civilians passing through checkpoints.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood announced on Monday that British police would massively increase the use of facial recognition technology used for surveillance purposes.

Caitlin Johnstone: "Why Don't You Criticize Iran??"

I don’t criticize Iran because I do not want to feed into an imperial war propaganda campaign for a horrific agenda that I do not support. I want to focus my criticisms on the power structure under which I actually live, because that is what one does when one is not a groveling bootlicker, and because the power structure under which I live happens to be the most abusive tyrant on the world stage.

Yep. I never knew much about him until now. He writes a lot about consciousness but the stereotype is that he writes about aliens and UFOs and weird conspiracy stuff. His book The Trigger is about 2 bibles thick and it covers a lot. Starting with the backgrounds of Cheney and Rumsfeld. Much of the book reads like investigative journalism. He sought information and points out contradictions in official statements.

At my local library we have 3 copies for the city and all 3 copies of Icke's book are currently in use. Somebody just put a hold on a copy so I'm going to return my copy. Pretty popular book, surprisingly.

I mean MH issues don't mean intelligence issues. I should see if it's available.

Ottawa is giving greenhouses a tax break. Will it help lower food prices?

Alberta’s greenhouse industry says a new federal tax program could make expansion easier, but it might not help to lower food prices.

Ottawa announced Monday it will allow producers who buy or build new facilities to more quickly write off the cost of capital expansions on their taxes — a change from the current rules that limit write-offs to 10 per cent each year.

That could improve cash flow projections, perhaps tipping the scale in a project’s business case.

But tomato, cucumber and pepper producers stress that operating costs have a bigger impact on food prices than capital costs.

in reply to HellsBelle

I am in support of helping Canadian businesses, especially in the current political climate. What I am not so confident in is the willingness of food suppliers to pass savings along all the way to the customer. Grocery stores have used inflation and price fixing tactics here for far too long for them to have earned my trust. Grocery stores must be seriously audited and regulated accordingly. By all means, make a profit - no brainer. But your profits now are bolstered by hurting 99% of Canadians who need food to survive.
