Children and police officers among at least 30 killed in Israeli strikes on Gaza | Gaza | The Guardian

Gaza’s health ministry has recorded more than 500 Palestinians deaths by Israeli fire since the start of the ceasefire on 10 October.

Despite Israel’s frequent killing of Palestinians in violation of the ceasefire, the deal has moved to a crucial second phase. Some of the thorniest issues are contained in this phase, which requires Hamas to disarm and hand over power to a Board of Peace organisation staffed by appointees of the US president, Donald Trump.

A recent presentation in Davos by Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, who is also involved in Trump’s Gaza project, showed the Trump administration’s plan for “developing Gaza”, complete with futuristic skyscrapers overlooking the Mediterranean.

Most of Gaza has been levelled and basic infrastructure remains inoperable as a result of Israeli bombing over the past two years, which has killed more than 70,000 Palestinians. Last year, a UN commission of inquiry found that Israel had committed a genocide in Gaza.

Why is this in the canada sub... Its bad enough getting all the "Trump says..." posts.
in reply to Levi

We should make a community that is just TrumpSays
in reply to Levi

It's relevant because Canada is giving Israel weapons to do this, so some of those deaths are caused by our government.
in reply to snoons

While I agree with that, I think it would be better if you shared this as a text post with your own title and discussion + the link / context in the body of the post. That way the post is still specific to the community, and both users and mods can quickly see that it is indeed relevant to the community :)

Apex Legends To Drop Nintendo Switch 1 Support in August

in reply to Nemeski

they dropped linux recently. it seems they really don't want to support anything but the most popular platforms.
in reply to ☂️-

That wasn't really recent. I think it's been well over a year

Their focus is purely on getting whales to buy more and nothing else.

This is what happens when studios focus on making money instead of making games.

The subject of Lyme disease is littered with misinformation. Celebrities are part of the problem, experts say

in reply to HellsBelle

Celebrities, AI, Reddit, lemmy - a short and incomplete list of places to not take medical advice or diagnose from. Doctors have doctorates in their field of expertise for a reason. If I want to complain about my achy joints here, I will. But I sure as hell won't trust my personal health decisions to somebody without proof of competence.

You can call 811 in Canada for health questions. Use a walk-in clinic, or make a doctors appointment with a family doctor. Or an emergencies, go to the ER.

To add to this: pharmacists are able to prescribe medication of certain classes, for certain conditions, depending on the province.
Here is a list with more details for anyone interested:

Ah yes Lyme disease, better pretend it doesnt exist rather than admit the real cover up.

Released from Plum Island, NY by former Nazi Scientist turned American POS.

Weaponized ticks were the fascination of Nazi Bioweapons scientist Erich Braun who was whisked away to America after the war under Op Paperclip to build and run Plum Island. Modelled after his Nazi bioweapons island. Reminder: bioweapons are illegal under the Geneva convention but America had a Nazi continue making them for decades after WWII. (Despite direct orders from Reagan too). There's a very clear breadcrumb trail linking the release of weaponized ticks from Plum to the emergence of Lyme disease 🧐.

Lynx vs Links vs Elinks vs w3m - what are differences between them?

Right now I'm trying to use my terminal for everything so I was thinking to maybe give a shot for one of the terminal http browsers.
There's so many of them and I don't know what are the differences between them. I would like to have gemini and gopher support at the same time as I'm using them also so. If you know which one have features like that please share with this information also.

Please give answers related to question or share your experience with browsing internet in terminal. I don't want to see comments saying that there's no point in it because modern web is as it is. Let me have fun 😄

I spent about 6 months several years ago without a WM. I used links -g and gpm to browse graphically (and with a mouse) using the framebuffer. At the time, lynx couldn't do that.

There are other TikTok alternatives worth mentioning:

Which distro is closest to 'GUI/UX for everything, absolutely no CLI' approach like Windows or Mac + and just works (ie passes LTT Linux test)

I'm looking for a distro to contribute to finally make 'year of Linux desktop, to happen. For me, I see that as full UI/UX behaviour that behaves almost identical to Windows/Mac (eg no middle click to paste).

Which distro comes closest to it?

I mean pretty much any distro can achieve that even Arch based ones. For example with CachyOS you could essentially run it with say KDE and never need to open a terminal at all. Cachy includes Octopi as its GUI package manager and it works well. KDE can also potentially handle the updating for you.

you could also run say something like Bazzite or Nobara which is essentially the same. Nobara does have it's own updater but i'll be honest it's kinda wonky sometimes and generally only starts off with access to its own repos.

Essentially at the end of the day the Distro doesn't really matter in most cases. As long as it can utilize a GUI package manager or some sort of "app store" and allows easy installation of something like KDE then you're good to go. The exceptions to this I would say would be like Gentoo or NixOS but as someone who uses NixOS...technically...it could potentially fit the bill. But that would require a bit of work to get it to that point.

Actually now that I think about it getting something like working on NixOS would be an interesting side hobby project to work on.

in reply to pathos

it really depends on what demands you are going to place upon the system..

gaming? have weird hardware? you're gonna visit a command line and have to 'research' things...

but just basic tasks and well-supported hardware? many can give a mostly or even entirely 'point and click' experience.

i have a number of users on silverblue and endless that would be terrified if they ever had to open a terminal, and i rarely open a terminal on my own desktops (xfce manjaro, cinnamint, endless, silverblue)

back to distrohopping. I want a reliable OS (no rando ubuntu fork with no clear release/support schedule) with something else than Plasma or Gnome.

Until now I've had fedora, opensuse and arch. I don't really like arch nowadays, so I was thinking more of a fedora cinnamon or LXQT. Opensuse is okay I guess. Any suggestions?

I stopped distro hoping with NixOS. It's been very stable for me and even in the few cases I had an issue is so easy to just restart on a previous generation and revert changes that it does not matter.

Arlene Dickinson and Amber Mac cut ties with Canadian social media startup Gander Social

Ms. MacArthur added: “Over the past few weeks it’s been pretty clear I wasn’t necessarily advising on anything because there was no product to look at. From my perspective, they have not been actively in touch with advisers along the way. That begs the question why you need advisers if you’re not getting them to advise.”

Without seeing the product, “it’s really hard to tell people they should continue to support and invest in this,” Ms. MacArthur said.

Why in the hell would you think you had a right to see anything when you had failed to provide even 1 cent of funding????

Jfc. Rich people truly believe they should get everything for nothing.

in reply to HellsBelle

I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t provide funding without seeing a business plan and a prototype.

In this case though, Fedican already provides a Canadian alternative, and all the structure is volunteered.

i also take issue with the paternalistic approach that the countries of the global north should decide for the countries of the global south what's best for them. i think the process of decolonization needs to be collaborative by the global north at the behest of the guidance of the people of the global south to avoid fascist genocidal dictators like Edie Amin and Pol Pot taking over the fascist mechanisms created by the global north. but this idea that we need closed borders in the global north, strictly enforced, for the benefit of the global south, seems like it can't lend itself to good results based on that it is inherently replicating the roots of colonialism

in reply to Alb

if you use this often, you can add a keyword search (firefox-based browsers) or a custom site search (chromium-based) with this URL

https://icon-sets.iconify.design/?query=%25s

(use %s after equals; some lemmy front-ends seem to be rendering it wrong)

and a shortcut e.g. icon

so everytime you enter e.g. icon person in a new tab, it'll run the search for you

The only reason that pro-capitalists don't need to make long wordy arguments is because their arguments have already been hammered into the population through years of propaganda.
