Palestinian journalist Sami al-Saai has testified to MEE that he was tortured and raped while held in Israel’s Megiddo prison, after his detention by Israeli forces on 23 February 2024. Al-Saai also described systematic torture and sexual abuse inflicted on Palestinians, particularly detainees from Gaza, by Israeli soldiers and prison guards.
His testimony comes amid a sharp escalation in abuses inside Israeli detention facilities since October 2023.
Palestinian rights groups have documented at least 100 deaths in Israeli custody under torture, starvation, and medical neglect, warning that the true toll is likely higher due to Israel’s refusal to disclose full data.
