But generally, with phones off-limits, the atmosphere feels different. There’s a pleasant buzz in the lunchroom, chatter in the hallways, and an alphabet of new analog hobbies popping up just about everywhere.

You wouldn't insist that your house be destroyed after your death so that no one else could ever live in it. Viable organs are rarer and more precious than houses. Why not let people benefit from them when you no longer need them?

in reply to C++ Wage Slave • • •@CppGuy in my raving days when I took drugs I had an irrational fear that if I accidentally overdid things, the NHS would be inclined to carve me up before I was 100% dead (there's a surprising amount of "spare parts" an OD victim can provide!) - but in 2000s I moved to a job in health and social care for seniors (where death and coroners cases are commonplace) and learned that NHS have *very* robust procedures to make sure that people are 100% dead before this happens!
I do now have a donor card, it also serves as a constant reminder to drive carefully..
