The past decade has seen a HUGE efflorescence of LitRPG, most of which is both funny and horribly dystopian by implication (Dungeon Crawler Carl, Apocalypse Parenting, etc) and posits we're all given crap superpowers and dumped into a real-universe MMO to be attacked by monsters for the entertainment of the galactic couch potation empire.
I can't help feeling it's now only a matter of time ...
