Something that #TypeScript provides that I'm surprised I don't see more often in languages is the ability to declare a type as union of literal values. This handles 90% of the situations I want any kind of "enum" support in the language for, and it's arguably a lot cleaner than what I see most languages do.

Compare #Python enums and the fact that they're objects, heavyweight objects, and you aren't allowed to subclass / extend an enum definition because their membership in the class describing them is part of their identity as enums. It's a mess when all I want is the ability to say "These three symbols, and only these three symbols, are valid as the input to this function."

in reply to Mark T. Tomczak

#Python has this too, in typing.Literal (docs.python.org/3/library/typi…). It's a handy feature and definitely underappreciated, although when I use it I do eventually wind up wanting an enum instead a decent fraction of the time.

In honor of Mexican Independence Day, I’d like to introduce you to painter/activist Frida Kahlo.

In her art she focused on inclusivity, culture, and indigenous rebellion against colonialism.

My favorite quote from her, which taps into deep regions of self-awareness and human consciousness:

“I paint self-portraits because I am so often alone, because I am the person I know best.”

New post: Micropayments History🪙

Hey, remember that period when there were a ton of online 'coins' that people are trying to make happen & big companies got involved & even talked about standardizing? Do you remember that time... in the mid to late 90s?

A rock made of shells is called a coquina, from the Spanish word for cockle. Some of the most famous coquinas are made from cockles of Shark Bay, Australia, where a species called Fragum erugatum lives in hypersaline lagoons. Because the cockles live in such extremely salty water, they essentially live without competition and can grow prolifically! The clams also symbiotically partner with algae in their bodies, so the coquinas here are basically solar-powered rocks! #clamFacts

Chinese researchers found an innovative way to use satellite constellations to detect stealth fighters, passively by detecting the “shadow” of an object between the detector and the electromagnetic radiation emitted by the satellites.

The basic idea is that when an aircraft flies through the space between Starlink satellites and ground antennas, it can cause forward scattering of the satellites’ electromagnetic waves, which can disrupt normal communication signals. 👏
