"#Trump lost. That is, if all legal #voters were allowed to vote, if all legal #ballots were counted, Trump would have lost the states of Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Georgia. Vice-President Kamala #Harris would have won the #Presidency with 286 electoral votes."

Looks legit. I wonder, what it would take to deny #USA the title "democracy". 🤔

Over the years, I've found Greg Palast's investigative journalism to be good value.

`Atlas Network' is active in Australia aiming for an Orban-type filtered democracy. Extreme right-wing Liberal National Parties (LNP) coalition & Murdoch media deeming unacceptable un-right people and political views. IMO, possible because of the social indifference engendered by neoliberalism - 'I'm alright, Jack' or 'I don't care', 'Life's already too hard without worrying about others' & 'if this is what's said about them, must be some truth to it'.

Israel has killed at least three people and injured 31 in south Lebanon on the day Israeli forces were due to withdraw under a ceasefire deal.

Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health on Sunday said Israeli forces opened fire in at least two border towns on “citizens who were trying to return to their villages”.

The Israeli killings violate a ceasefire agreement, under which its forces were supposed to withdraw from Lebanon at 02:00 GMT on Sunday.

What is the point of asking any politicians anything?
in reply to Ben

asking sensible questions clearly doesn't work. Journalists should go rogue and just ask them batshit questions. "So, Kier Starmer, who would win in a fight the concept of ennui or planet Venus?" Just really put them off with weird off camera antics pulling funny faces, sticking googly eyes on the mic stand, kicking them under the table. Fuck it, might as well at this stage
in reply to scmbradley

@Scmbradley I think Kemi Badenoch should try the odd question technique at the next PMQs, yours as an opener then, "Three caramelised onions or Series 4 Episode 6 of Spooks?"
in reply to spanghero

@spanghero PMQs: I would like to ask the right honourable member for Holborn and St Pancras whether he remembers the TV show Bugs and if he does, who his favourite character was.
in reply to scmbradley

@Scmbradley @spanghero Is the Prime Minister going to keep denying that being hit about the face with a haddock is preferable to being hit about the face with a salmon?
in reply to scmbradley

@Scmbradley
Whenever anyone asks me, "Do you have any questions?", often my brain thinks of nonsense I could spout to them, because it thinks it's funny to sabotage me.
"Yes, who would win in a fight between a giant squid with chainsaws on the ends of its tentacles and an ultralion?"

“Democratic capitalism” is just capitalism that hasn’t managed to fully devour democracy yet.

The faith that capitalism supports—or is even compatible with—democracy and free markets is a dangerous and ignorant fantasy. Capitalism means society is organized around capital’s interests. It means capital is in charge. When convenient (i.e., profitable), capitalism will happily thrive in democracies and embrace freedom. When not, capital will be just as happy to be fascistic and/or despotic.

Gaming | BattlEye anti-cheat in War Thunder enabled for Linux ✅

War Thunder: a free-to-play, cross-platform, MMO dedicated to aviation, armoured vehicles and naval craft - old & modern.

So - things are looking up also on the anti-cheat enabling front for Linux!

More developers should join in for the new era (where people want to move away from Windows even in gaming requiring AC) 🙂

Watching "Trucking Hell" and a truck has fallen into a sink hole. One of the recovery folk says "I'm worried it's resting on a gas main", then the other says " Yeah it's on fibre optic cables and if they break there could be sparks".
Forgive me for being thick but fibre optic cables only have light transmitted through them don't they or am I wrong ? Do the fibre cables under streets carry power too ?🤔
This entry was edited (1 week ago)
in reply to Justine Smithies

I used to work for a company installing metro fiber in the Paris area, and the cable itself wouldn't carry power. (There might be exceptions, but ours didn't afair.) But in new constructions (say, when a whole block is being built), the developers would typically lay multiple PVC tubes (sheaths, unsure how they're called in English), use a few for power and sell/lease the remaining ones to optical carriers for them to install their cables inside. So while it wouldn't be surprising to have fiber and electricity in close proximity, one wouldn't necessarily imply the other! 🤔
in reply to Justine Smithies

fibre cables are usually just light and the lasers through them are very weak (miliwatts) and wont cause any damage if broken. Certainly no sparks.
That said there is research on this topic in coal mines and coal mine equipment. But those lasers are usually in the watt range and serve other purposes than data transmission.

My main worry would be what other cables are in that trench, as they are often multipurpose.

The premise of Universal Basic Income is that unemployment will be so high & persistent that we’ll raise taxes on the people with jobs so the unemployed can live middle class lives.

It’s more likely we’ll have a Butlerian Jihad than AI will cause that future to occur in the U.S.

in reply to Dare Obasanjo

I am a big fan of evolution and I see AI as part of it, but the way it is brought into our midst by greedy, spineless and soulless corporations is sickening and in this context I definitely am here to support a butlerian jihad.
in reply to Dare Obasanjo

UBS doesn't mean what you think it means. Basic does some heavy lifting. If AI is making claims of middle class then that's a many-fold lie.
