I have two favorite genres: historical and fantasy. Both have their good sides, both have their challenges.
What I enjoy about fantasy is the freedom - I get to create the world, its history, its customs. However, I do need to invent all that, too, and all has to make sense in the end.
Historical is the other way round: I have a given world incl. events etc. to weave my story around. I have a framework - but I am also less free.
