Home should mean safety, not anxiety. ❤️‍🩹

Today we present the first-ever European Affordable Housing Plan to ensure better access to affordable, sustainable and quality housing:

Congresswoman Ilhan Omarhas warned that Donald Trump’s repeated personal attacks and dehumanising rhetoric
are fuelling a climate of political violence that could have dangerous consequences.

Speaking days after the president called for her to be thrown out of the country,
Omar said Trump’s incendiary language reaches “the worst humans possible” and encourages them to act.

“We’ve had people incarcerated for threatening to kill me,”
“We have people that are being prosecuted right now for threatening to kill me
and so it is something that does stay in the back of our minds.
But I also worry about those people finding someone who looks like me in Minneapolis or across the country
and thinking it is me and harming them.”

When #teaching #Rstats / #statistics courses, I (and several colleagues of mine) made the experience that it is indeed pretty hard for a lot of students to cope with the file system on their computer. They have questions like: How do I know the "path" of a file? How do I control in which directory something is saved? WHY DO I NEED THIS?!?

I don't want to make fun of these students because I know that this could be because operating systems are increasingly obscuring file/directory systems from their users.

But if I want to teach students to use a scripting/ #programming language independently, that's a real problem!

So my questions to you are: Do you have the same impression when teaching? And if so: How do you deal with this from a teaching perspective? To be honest, I don't want to use precious course time to teach the absolute basics of computers' file systems in the first session(s).

Yeah, I've had several conversations with colleagues on now having to do the "how to use the file system" lesson. I think it may well be just an inevitability at this point, though it would be worth conversations with colleagues to see if it's something that can be included in general intro and groundwork courses for any given programme.

CW: mini vent

Recently had a group call with other people with ME, run by my local ME/cfs specialist clinic - it’s the only source of support NHS gives, like life coaching - and they gave advice to us on how to cook Christmas dinner.

This seems to be so utterly ignorant of our situations.

I cannot cook with this illness, can’t imagine cooking for others, let alone Christmas dinner!

Some people with ME might manage it, paced, planned ahead, pre-prepped food in freezer, etc., certainly with help from others, but what about the rest of us?!

I am scared for people who have ME with worse severities than mine, too. Where is the support for moderate / severe / very severe. What about those who can’t even do these calls. (Rhetorical Qs 💚)

excellent point. Yeah, there's no way I could cook a holiday dinner. I can't cook more than two or three things in one day. And I'm not receiving any care for Fibro.
