spent all day staring at front porch awaiting delivery requiring signature, constantly refreshing tracking.

late afternoon: "receiver was not available for delivery. will attempt next business day"

oh fuck you

in reply to Manuela Malasaña

they did in fact manage to make it to the door during a moment I wasn't watching it, as they left a notice on the front door. I verified that my doorbell still works. Knocking on the door is still loud. Why even turn up at the front door if you're not going to indicate you're there?! Do they think I'm psychic?
in reply to Manuela Malasaña

same. They delivered it to the house next door despite me being in and waiting for it.

Couriers are all terrible now.

in reply to Manuela Malasaña

so from what I can gather, drivers are tracked on GPS so if they want to make up lost time on a route they can go to where they are supposed to, not bother to actually get the package out of the truck, tag the front door with the "well i tried" note, and run back to the truck having gained a few minutes back. so yet again the problem is evil corporate overlords with impossible metrics that require dishonesty to even meet and im just the collateral damage. sigh
in reply to Manuela Malasaña

if they pull this shit a second time then after that I have to go to some warehouse way outside of town to get it. I paid for expedited shipping to get it yesterday because I am busy today. fortunately (?) I'm unemployed at the moment so if I have to make a three hour round trip to get this fucking thing I can but what if I hadn't been fired huh? I'd be shit outta luck. I mean I guess maybe less shit out of luck than I am now in the grand scheme of things but as far as the package goes yes
in reply to Manuela Malasaña

I know the whole song and dance because this happened to me before in 2013, and I really did have to drive to the middle of fucking nowhere to get a display I'd ordered (1080p! Wow!) this is a hecking laptop, far easier to pick up and carry at least

hey maybe the driver could at least pick up and carry the package to my door? Now there's a concept!

in reply to Manuela Malasaña

the hope is that the driver, on seeing this note, will see i am done being fucked with and will simply have to make up extra time by fucking over the next person on their route instead

see this is how u work inside the system rather than just being helpless to it

in reply to Manuela Malasaña

Yesterday while awaiting the package I also picked up every call from a unknown number just in case it had something to do with the delivery. All spam. This is what modern convenience has brought us
in reply to Manuela Malasaña

i just had an idea for a business, where vendors pay you to transport merchandise to customers who purchased it. what makes this different from existing courier services is that the business model would involve actually physically moving the merchandise from the vendor to the customer. high concept, but humor me here, i think there's a genuine market for this
in reply to Manuela Malasaña

I have an appointment from 3-4pm today, who wants to bet that's when the delivery attempt is gonna be?
in reply to Manuela Malasaña

I've been answering the door at every little thump I've managed to hear; given a neighbor is having some sort of construction and a different neighbor has a rowdy child or something it's been a lotta false positives. normally i would assume anyone at the door would ring the doorbell like a normal person but we aren't dealing with a normal person today, we are dealing with a pissbottle courier
in reply to Manuela Malasaña

worth noting: I paid extra for expedited shipping precisely to avoid the stress of the delivery potentially happening during the appointment I have later today
in reply to Manuela Malasaña

it is 5:30 pm. They didn't come during my dental appointment. But I have a singing lesson from 6-7. I am in a state of great aggravation
in reply to Manuela Malasaña

: OMG, I've been through this same experience so many times, and it's awful. I'm so sorry it's still ongoing for you.

Just so everyone understands my position here: I own multiple AR-15s, and have thousands of rounds of ammo in my safes. I also have spent the last decade pondering how we, here in the US, can make it so I never have to see the editor’s comment “the screams of children have been removed” from a news video, ever again. I would love to effect a culture change to stop mass shootings here. I also don’t foresee that happening. What we can change is access to weapons designed to be easy to use this way
in reply to McNadoMD

The problem with access restriction is that you will never get to 0 access, and access is always gate-kept by 'background checks' and MONEY, and many of the people who have carried out mass shootings went through background checks and had the money to get the guns to do the crimes.

This is my point about Australia's laws. They have some of the most stringent gun laws, and yes 35 to 5000, I get it, but shootings are on the rise there because there is still access.

in reply to Wyatt H Knott

Humans will always find access to dangerous tools.

What NEEDS to be changed most, is the culture of abuse that drives the root causes of violence in the first place. That's the only real, long-term solution. Anything less is a bandaid at best, if not an outright time-wasting red herring in the service of more authoritarian abuse.

‼️ Zelensky: Putin publicly lied, claiming that Russian forces had already taken Kupiansk. So I went to Kupiansk to show the world that Putin is lying.

Let’s look at Russia’s history since 1991. From then until today, Russia has changed: it has been poor and rich, and it has gone from oligarchy to dictatorship.

But one thing has remained the same — it keeps bringing war and hatred. From Chechnya to the Balkans, from Moldova to Syria, from countries in Central Africa to Ukraine.
