New report finds the Arctic continues to warm faster than the planet as a whole. One consequence is iron leaching from the melting permafrost, causing rivers to rust and become orange, potentially contaminating fish and those that eat them, as well as contaminating drinking supplies.
The Greenland Ice Sheet lost 129 billion tons of ice in 2025. Alaskan glaciers have lost an average of 125 vertical feet since the 1950s. This year saw the lowest sea-ice extent in the 47-year satellite record.
