in reply to Kris Dreemurr (they/them) of the Pnictogen Wing

I think readers and people generally may have a very difficult time with the proposition, something that I regard as practically self-evident from the current state of #technology and the things that get vaunted and marketed the most in the tech sector, that technology executives and elite #SoftwareDevelopment have business aims that are explicitly hostile to their own userbase. But I think it's true.

The leadership and prime movers of tech firms and #software corporations are almost openly* contemptuous of the average person, and that contempt informs their extreme right-wing politics. These people are authoritarians and they all believe they're specially gifted geniuses, the people who really matter, the winners of the genetic lottery. The rest of us are supposed to shut up and be grateful for their grifts. I mean, their gifts.

The #technology kings do not mean well. They must for the sake of maintaining a friendly public façade go on pretending that they mean well, of course. They must continue to pose as champions of humanity, fighting to change the world for the better, empowering each and every person with some share of the magical abilities of high tech, which they assert is always whizzing upwards in capability and quality, getting better and better all the time. They still talk in superlatives. They still pretend that their technology is somehow a democratizing force.

How much do you think any of those people actually believe in that gas? Marc Andreessen and Elon Musk and Sam Altman and Peter Thiel and the rest of them are already used to leading double lives. They love publicity, but they loathe public scrutiny, laugh gleefully at the murder of journalists (e.g. by the #IDF) and their only real society is with each other and with their political allies. The "techno-optimism" is wearing extremely thin.

We took Odin on the tram to the Christmas market. He doesn’t photograph well at night (this was the best photo), but rest assured he got so, so many cuddles from random tourists tipsy on glühwein #dog #dogs #dogsofmastodon #amsterdam

Shooting a little ten year old girl ffs 😪

Bean just walked into the bathroom while I was peeing and sat beside me and started purring. Lol

So I'm like, "Oh I guess you want some mama Rayne time?"

So I go to sit on the couch and call her over, so she just looks at me and then loafs in the opposite direction

They seem to have a way with names, the Aussies. This is the bark of the scribbly bark tree, which is found in the coastal areas of New South Wales. The brown marks are caused by the larvae of the scribbly bark moth, which live between the outer bark and the inner. When the trees shed their outer bark, the scribbles are revealed - new ones every year.

Huh, that's interesting. If you mute a thread it seems you still see notifications if someone quotes your posts in it. That was actually a cool one I was happy to see, but just putting this out there in case people didn't know while quotes are still quite a new thing
